Chapter 3

Here is a new chapter of Moon's Silent Cry!!! \(^^)/ Please enjoy!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Well Mike there you go, play the knight in shining armour for her!' Kate cackled at Mike through our own pack link.

Kate was Alex' mate, she was pretty and also one of my good friends. She never liked Missy from the moment she laid eyes on her, according to Kate she is the type of female that shamed all the women who fought for equal rights.

We heard Mike grumble something along the lines of traitors, and people not being able to take care of their own shit. Still, he walked outside towards them and talked, shook his head after a while holding his hands up in surrender. Missy clung to his clothes, probably begging him to pay for her Mumu shoes, he got angry after a while, and growled at them. Then they finally seemed to grasp the situation. Missy's face got red with anger, looked at me standing by the open window and screamed at me: "Don't think I will let you get away with this! I will make sure you will pay, mark my words!" even shaking her fist at me, before storming off to her car hopped in and drove off. I chuckled, shaking walking up to my room.

*Time Skip*

Farrell's P.O.V

It's been a few weeks since Connor talked to me on the football pitch, and since then we've talked quite a few times but never more than a few minutes. After a lot of nagging (mostly on his part) we exchanged numbers and we have been texting since, a few times a day.

Since we exchanged numbers, he asked me to come over and have dinner with him and his family. The first few times I had legitimate excuses or not coming, but now after a week they were running out and my parents insisted that it wasn't that bad. So finally I complied and went to have dinner with the Lawson's.

Now I'm sweating bullets, standing on the porch of the major's house on Saturday. I checked the time on my phone; it read 18.59, okay on time. I rang the doorbell at 19.00 pm on the dot. I waited a few seconds before a maid opened the door and let me in. I meekly followed her into the living room where the hum of conversation was. Before I entered the room I checked my outfit; I wore a dark green button up shirt, dark nice fitting jeans, and a new pair of black low shoes. I even went as far as to use some gel and style my hair. I took a deep breath and stepped inside.

The maid announced my presence. Fidgeting under their stares, the heavy Alpha and Luna stare, I got to see the major's wife for the first time. She looked like a female version of Connor; long honey blond hair that cascaded down her back in waves, kind crystal blue eyes. We never get to see her much because she works on the boundaries of our lands, and deals with the visiting packs and normal humans as the major's secretary.

Beside her on the couch sat her husband; Tom Lawson was a big man around six feet or more tall, muscled figure, dark brown hair, equally dark intense eyes. Both of them rose to meet me: "Farrell it's so nice to finally meet you, I'm Eleanor Lawson." I shook the major's wife hand, "Yes it is nice to finally meet the person who drove our son to nearly crash into a tree." A soothing timbre voice said as I shook the major's hand.

I blushed. "Hello I'm Farrell Carmichael; it's nice to meet you to." I saw Connor sprawled out on a couch of his own so I took the only available seat left; a smallish couch, it could be considered a love seat but before my backside could touch the seat I found two strong arms dragged me over to the other couch. So I ended up on Connor's lap, making me blush a scarlet red, his parents chuckled. Embarrassed to death I started moving around to get out of his hold but he only tightened his hold on me and whispered in my ear: "Please stop squirming like that, you're making me hard and I don't think it's something for my parents to see." I shivered, but stopped wiggling around. Connor sighed contently as I settled against him; he snuggled in my hair sniffing my scent. Making his parents laugh at our antics.

Then a younger version of Eleanor crashed into the room, out of breath as if she ran a million miles. "Farrell, meet my younger sister Ella." Connor murmured, and seeing as he won't release me, I waved at her "It's nice to meet you Ella." "Oh" she said taking in our position; "So you are my brother mate?" Connor growled at her. "Yeah he is." I swatted his arm; there was no reason to snap at her. Alpha Tom chuckled at that; "So Farrell, Connor told me that you shift into a pristine white wolf." I swallowed; "Yes Alpha, I do." I was looking down at the floor. "You can just call me Tom now you know, there is no need for you to call me Alpha outside of the pack." Tom Lawson said. "Do you know if your real parents were like you?" the sweet voice of Eleanor asked.

I thought about that for a while digging in my memories, coming up short. I shook my head "Not that I can remember Luna." "You're a white wolf?" Ella's young voice quipped up; "That's so cool!! Can I see, can I see?" "Ella!" Her mother said horrified, "That's not something you ask someone on your first meeting. Of course he will not show you his wolf that would have to wait until another pack meeting." Ella only pouted; she pouted even harder when her mother told her to go wash her hands before dinner, but complied with her mother's request.

Once seated at the dinner table - I sat beside Connor of course, his younger sister across from me and Tom at the head of the table, and his mother at the other end. We talked about everything and nothing, it was nice and relaxing, I even laughed a few times about all the wild stories Ella (seven years old) came up with. After a gorgeous dinner (roosted potatoes, nicely done lamb, and Brussels sprouts with pieces of spicy bacon) I was stuffed to the brim, they had a chocolate cake for dessert.

I couldn't possibly eat anymore but Eleanor insisted on me for trying a piece, after a few minutes of persuasion I caved in and had a piece; it was like a piece of heaven!!! It was awesome, I felt very sleepy. I nearly fell asleep at the table, much to Connor's delight. He will probably make fun of me on Monday. I yawned again, this time it was Eleanor who quietly snickered at me "Are you alright Farrell?" "Yes ma'am, I just never ate this much in my life and it made me a little sleepy." "You never ate this much in your life? What do you usually eat then?" Eleanor's voice sounded a little panicked, even Connor looked at me in alarm.

I shrugged: "I've never been a big eater, in the morning I eat some pieces of toast, for lunch I will have a ham sandwich and some milk and for dinner probably one helping of spaghetti, why?" "No wonder you're so slender, you eat nearly nothing." Connor said squeezing my waist to prove his point, making squirm around since I'm quite ticklish.

After dinner we went back to the living room, talking some more and I had to promise that I would bring my parents next time I came over. And of course Connor held onto me when we were seated on the couch. I looked at the clock on the mantel and noticing the time; 22.45pm!! Jeez time goes quickly, I wrestled out of Connors grip, "Mr and Mrs Lawson thank you for the lovely dinner, but I really need to get home now I promised my mom to be home before twelve." Putting on my jacket, Connor gets up and grabs his keys and waits at the door, "I'll take you home on my bike, then you will make it on time." He said with an evil smile. I swallowed loudly "Okay. Bye Mr and Mrs Lawson!" Eleanor's voice sounded form the living room. "Bye Farrell have a save trip!"

Once outside I saw his bike; it's an older model, I guess a model that was used in the war, and knowing Connor it will go pretty fast. He smirked at me, handing me a helmet "You're not scared are you?" I looked at the helmet back at the bike and him "No I am not." I huffed putting the helmet on. He grinned at me, beckoned me closer to the bike motioning for me to get on. I shuffled closer; his mouth was close to my ear "If you get scared, just hold onto me." I could hear him through the helmet. He winked and swung his leg over the seat.

I was thinking it over, and he started the bike and I threw all my doubts away and climb on. Conner opened the gas handle and we shot out of the driveway and onto the road. I grabbed onto Connor's waist pushing my head between his shoulder blades. After a while, I wasn't so scared, so I peeked around his shoulders and enjoyed the ride. We were going as fast as I would be in my wolf form running.

Too soon the ride ended, Connor pulled into our driveway. He snickered over his shoulder at me "This is where you get off little one." I pouted at him, I wanted the ride to last a bit longer. This made Connor give me a genuine smile as he pulled off my helmet. I inwardly swooned at the sight, on the outside I looked at him with a mischievously.

Connor raised an eyebrow at me, I smiled and leaned forward and brushed my lips along his. I climbed off the bike right after and dashed toward the house. I didn't get far, Connor's arm lashed out so quick it blurred and latched onto my arm jerking me back into his muscled chest. I let out a little squeak, I felt Connors chest rumble he is laughing at me! GODDAMNIT!

"You're not running away from me after what you just did, if you intended to kiss me then do it right." I was turned around and Connor filled my vision; he was inching closer and closer taking his sweet time.

I wish he would hurry up and kiss me already! What in the world am I thinking?

Connor smirks at me "I like the way you are thinking little one." And he finally bends down to me and kissed me. And what a kiss it was! It felt awesome, fireworks went off behind my closed eyes.

When did I close my eyes... I don't care just don't stop kissing me.

"Your parents will be here soon if you don't go in." Connor's voice was a few notches rougher and his eyes were hooded, reluctantly I let go of him and take a small step back. Connor went back to his bike and I pouted, I didn't want him to leave.

'Go inside love, you will catch a cold if you stay out here. I will text you tomorrow okay?'

He gave me a killer smile and drove off back home.

"I'm home!" I yelled. "Hi hun, was that Connor on his bike? And did he bring you home? How was your dinner at the Lawson's?" my step mom Elsie asked.

"Yeah it was and the ride was awesome! The dinner was great I eat a lot and now I'm really tired." I said tiredly. "I didn't know Connor had a motorbike." My step dad Thomas said coming out of his study. I shrugged apparently he does "And before you start yes, we both wore helmets." I say when I saw my dad open his mouth to say something. After that I walked up the stairs "I'm really tired, so I'm going to bed and will see you both in the morning."

The following Sunday morning was all good and well until my phone and mom decided to wake me up at ten in the friggin' morning! Just so you know I like to sleep in on a Sunday. So waking up at ten when I usually wake up around one or two, I was groggy and a bit cranky.

"Farrell do get up! You promised to help me do the garden today!" my mom yelled from the other side of my door. And my phone buzzed like it was on crack, so I picked it up and opened the text:

Hey sleepy head, had a good night? You probably dreamt of me didn't you?

I blink a few times, rub my eyes and when the message sinks in I blush at the statement, how could he know I dreamt of him last night?

I'm still tired, I wanna go back to sleep but can't. Have to help mom with the garden. -_- How about you?

Okay that's good, so I finally roll out of bed put on some old jeans and a t-shirt and go down stairs to eat breakfast.

While I ate my breakfast my phone buzzed again:

Really? You actually help?

I snorted into my cereal;

Yeah unlike you we don't have a gardener, and I'm an only child so there is no way I can shove it on my younger sibling.

It took him a while to answer that one;

Want me to come and help?

I had to aww at that one, he was just so cute!

Nah, it is okay our garden isn't that big and we just need to move a few plants, it'll be done in no time. But if you want you can come over later?

I sent the text and realised I just invited Connor over without thinking it through. I face palm.

I face palm again at the quick and happy reaction he gave me:

Really? Okay I will come around lunch time, and I would love to meet your parents! See you soon!

My god! He sounded like a happy puppy that got to play with a new toy.

My mom walks in the kitchen and takes one look at me: "What's wrong hun, have a headache?" I just showed her the message exchange, she claps excitedly in her hands: "Thomas, we're having Connor over for lunch, you know the major's son. Really now? What a surprise, I didn't know you were a friend of his." My step dad says as he walks into the kitchen for his cup of coffee, and returns to his study to make tests for the upcoming exams. Both my parents are teachers, my dad teaches advanced math and my mom teaches history.

Once we're outside my mom drops the bombs: "Are you two in a relationship?" I drop the shovel I was carrying, blush and try not to panic. Do I tell her or do I not tell her?

"Well I shifted at the party earlier this year at the major's house right?" mom nodded her head, "and I kinda found my mate." I mumbled not looking at her. I heard the little gears in her head ticking and her gasping once she put everything together. "OH BABY CONGRATULATIONS!" she says and gives me a bear hug, which left me gasping for breath.

Her voice was apparently loud enough for my dad to hear in his study on the other side of the house. Which scared him bad enough judging from the noise coming from that side of the house. After all the crashing sounds dad came stumbling out of the house; "What is going on? Why are you congratulating him?

Before I could say anything mom gushed; "Oh dear, our little Farrell grew up at the major's house, he shifted and found his mate!" She clasped her hand together again. Dad's mouth dropped open, and let his favourite drop but thanks to my quick reflexes I caught it. Although I had to dive into the mud, good thing too or else there would be hell to pay. Dad is very much attatched to his cup.

Dad recovered, he cleared his throat "I would like to meet the lucky girl." looking at me over his glasses. My mom giggled "The lucky boy is coming over for lunch, so Farrell and I need to get to work on the garden before he arrives." I rolled up my sleeves, getting ready for the heavy lifting and moving of the pots and plants.

After my mom ushered my dad back into the house, we ready to tackle the front garden. Both of us were covered in mud, around lunch time we just finished the front garden, when Connor's bike turned on our driveway. I sighed; I hoped to be showered by the time Connor came.

We finished cleaning up our tools and Connor came over looking fine as ever; his honey blond hair in careful disarray, dark skinny jeans which hugged his long legs, and his emerald green sweater hugged his nicely muscled chest, his eyes sparkled with mischief. He reached into the seat and pulled out a big bouquet of beautiful flowers, my mom's gasped so I think they are expensive, and there were so many flowers in there that I don't recognise.

He walked over to my mom, handed her the flowers walked over to me; "Hi Mrs Carmichael, I'm Connor Lawson, Farrell said it was okay to come over for lunch." He did look a bit uncomfortable, and handed mom a beautiful bouquet, she gasped "They are beautiful Connor. I will put them in a beautiful vase, why don't you go into the house and wait there?" and walked into the house looking for a vase.

He looked at me "Hi love." I looked at him shyly "Hi, I should shower, I probably stink so go inside and I will be there soon." I ushered him to the house. I ran up the stairs to the bathroom, to wash of the grime from the garden. By the time I came down stairs Connor was in the kitchen with his parents, "So you are Farrell's mate." My dad's gruff voice filtered through the door.

I wore my favourite skinny jeans; they looked like they were bleached, and my sweater was a nice dark blue and hand knitted by mom. My hair was still a bit damp, so it was a bit dark white and it framed my face nicely and my eyes sparkled like jewels. "Yes I am, and I feel very lucky to be." He said. "What do your parents think of this?" my mom asked, "They know and they are glad I have found my mate, since I'm the heir to the pack they have a burden less." He said looking at his hands, I walked in "What's wrong, why do you feel down?" he sighed looking at me "I was just thinking of our future, and the thought of kids." Now I felt a little depressed, the weight of his words sunk in, we could never have kids of our own blood, and seeing that Connor is the heir we can adopt but they will never be accepted as heirs to the pack.

Sensing my depressing thoughts he put his arms around me and pulled my in his lap, "Don't worry about it okay? We will find some solution to the problem when we get there." He kissed my forehead, feeling a bit more up lifted I sighed content feeling his warmth.

At the notion of us having kids I saw my dad tense and pale, looking at mom then looking away at the door to his study. He sighed got up from the table, disappearing into his study. "Dad are you okay?" I didn't get it, why was dad so upset; I looked at mom who smiled reassuringly at us. After a while dad emerged with a picture frame; it held a picture of dad when he was younger and someone else, who looked like dad and the older man in the picture.

Dad sat down in an armchair and the rest of us followed dad to the living room, without a word dad looked at us; we were cuddled up the couch on the opposite side of dad, and he started his tale that would haunt me for a long time.

"This is a sad story about a bright young man named Travis Carmichael and his younger brother Thomas. Travis was three years older than Thomas, and Travis would be like their dad a scouter and tracker for the pack. Everybody was proud of him, especially his father Edward until he learned about the little fact that Travis couldn't shift." Dad let out a deep sigh at this.

Connor and I looked at each other, a werewolf that couldn't shift? So Connor asked "What do you mean Travis couldn't shift Mr Carmichael?"

Dad smiled at him, "Please call me Thomas Connor, and to answer your question Travis couldn't shift no matter how hard he tried. Travis found out a while after his sixteenth birthday, he was too scared to tell his father, and he let it slip when Thomas was around and when he questioned him about it, Thomas was sworn to secrecy to not tell anyone."

"So now you are all wondering how Edward knew? Well the previous Alpha, dad looked at Connor; "Your grandfather, thought it would be best if Edward knew about this. Since the Alpha and Edward grew up together and all. So imagine Edwards surprise when he heard it from the Alpha that his oldest son couldn't shift. Of course the first thing he thought was that his wife cheated on him with someone else. But before he could go on a rampage, the Alpha pulled him aside and calmed him down enough for him not to do anything stupid."

'Was your grandfather really like that?'

'I don't know he died in a rogue attack years before me and my sister were born.'

I shifted around in my spot uncomfortable, I had a bad feeling about this, and this story wouldn't end well for Travis.

We all took a moment to drink, mom was thoughtful enough to make us all some lemonade. Mom sat down on the arm of dads chair, he seemed to draw strength from her nearness and continued his tale.

"So the first thing Travis did when his dad asked him about it was blurting out that he should have known that Thomas would rat him out. But thank god the Alpha was there, he calmed everybody down to talk things through. The Alpha suggested that Travis should undergo some tests to see if something was wrong with him. So after a lot of tests the found out that a gene that was responsible for shifting wasn't active in Travis. So they spoke to the pack doctor about making the gene active so Travis could fit in his role as tracker. But the doctor disagreed, the operation was too risky, Travis would not survive it. Slowly people in the pack came to terms with Travis not being able to shift. And after this more people found out that some of their children couldn't shift and decided to have the operation but that ended it tears. Everybody who had the operation didn't survive their first shift."

Dad took a deep breath, "If that wasn't enough disappointment for Edward, he avoided Travis and started to train Thomas to fill his role. And then came the day that Thomas turned sixteen, everybody was happy but it was strained. As a family we were still coping with the fact that Travis was genetically defected. To make matters worse, Travis announced that he was gay, our parents were shocked to say the least, but Edward threw Travis out of the house, he was to never return."

Tears gathered in mom's eyes, both of my parents knew about the loss of a child. They lost their own child in the previous war they fought against rogues that threatened our borders. His name was Michael and he was sixteen when he went out on his own to fight the rogues and never came back home.

Mom started to shake, dad pulled her into him and continued "It broke his mate's heart that Edward treated Travis this way but there was nothing she could do about it. Travis left the house and wandered around the woods close to the pack, he felt he had to prove himself since he missed the extra senses most us have." Dad hung his head and heaved a deep belly sigh. "Travis was in the heart of the woods on patrol, but he never returned from that patrol. A few weeks later the hunters came back with news of a mangled body of a young boy was found. It was Travis; he was beaten too bloody to actually recognise him but Edward's mate did and sobbed her heart out. Travis' death was mourned only by Edwards mate and his younger son Thomas, no one else seemed to know how to handle the situation. But Edward's mate couldn't handle the loss and she took her own life."

A single tear made its way out of dad's eye and slide down his cheek. I felt my own tears drip down my cheeks. I felt Connor's fingers slide across my cheeks, catching my tears and lingered. So I tugged on his arm, and he slid his arms around me and I borrowed my head in his chest and sobbed.

"Then came the day that Thomas turned sixteen and he turned wolf, Edward was pleased and trained him further in the art of scouting and tracking prey. After all this Thomas promised himself that if his child would be gay or couldn't shift he would never turn out like his old man."

Dad's voice shook slightly, and he still looked a bit pale but much better than in the beginning we could see a big weight was lifted of his shoulders, he even cried a little. He must have carried this ever since Travis died. I thought to myself.

"Dad whatever happened to Edward Carmichael? He was tried for treason. He conspired with another pack to have the Alpha killed. But nobody ever saw him again after the trail." Dad looked like he aged another ten years when he said that, all of us were quiet for a while after that; nobody knew what to say.

Connor's P.O.V.

It was quite a sad story that Mr Carmichael told us, especially Farrell was upset, I think he was more upset that he could never met the uncle or older brother. But I should ask my dad if it's true that there are genes that make us turn into wolves on our sixteenth birthdays. Of course if that's true, maybe there will be hope for other Travis' out there. And maybe ..... Just maybe.... They could look at our problem too... they should since there were more same gender mates throughout the decades and some even have kids.

I was startled out of my thoughts by the gruff voice of Mr Carmichael, "Connor I didn't tell you this story as if to say I don't agree with you two being together. Quite the opposite in fact, I am thrilled that Farrell found his mate, all I am saying is not everybody will be accepting of your relationship as we are or your parents for that matter."

Farrell perked up at this; I guess he still was afraid of rejection by his parents.

"The older generation might have a hard time adjusting to the fact that same gender mates are now openly accepted. And I don't want to see Farrell getting hurt if you decide to leave him." He gave me a hard glare. "That's all I have to say on this subject." With that he stood up and left with the picture to the study and wasn't seen for the rest of the day.

I spent the rest of the day with Farrell; I even got invited to stay for dinner, who would say no? So I stayed for dinner and Thomas, (he insisted I call him Thomas) never said another word about Travis. We had a pleasant meal and dessert.

After that we hung out in Farrell's room; it was quite a big room, its walls were a pale blue with a laminate floor, a queen size bed, a little nightstand on the left side, on the right side a desk with a laptop and a door to his own en suite. Which was nice, but the best thing was his bed had a view of their back garden; it were the woods that surrounded our lands, the sun was setting behind the trees illuminating their branches and leaves. It was quite magical, and the setting sun put a halo around Farrell's face making him look more like an angel than the predator he was.

Farrell was looking at the woods "I really hope you never leave me." My eyes widened at this 'There is no way I would leave you!' I linked at him. He just sighed 'That's what you say now, but what will you say after a few months and all the females go in heat. And we won't have a child, even if we adopt they won't be seen as heirs to the pack.' He hugged himself and I saw his shoulders hunch, meaning he was trying to keep himself from crying.

I walked over and hugged him from behind encircling his waist. 'We will be fine and together no matter what anybody else says.' He turned around and looked at me; his eyes were puffy and red from the crying. I tugged hem over to the bed and laid him down 'Why don't you get ready for bed love? You look worn out.' He shook his head as he answered me 'Then you'll leave and I don't want you to leave yet.'

I had to smile at him and said "I will wait here until you're ready to go to bed and stay with you until you fall asleep. I will pick you up tomorrow to go to school together okay?" He nodded his head in consent and went into the bathroom, and soon enough I heard water running and Farrell hum quietly to himself in the shower.

While Farrell was in the shower his mother Elsie came up asking if we needed anything "I think Farrell could use some hot liquid, he looks very tired so I told him to get ready for bed. I felt better if he also had some nice and warm to drink before sleeping. I also promised him to stay with him until he falls asleep. He looked worried that I would leave him in this state, I would be a bad mate if I did." Her gaze softened a bit when she looked at me "I will make Farrell some nice hot tea and if you want we have a guestroom for you to use if you wish, just tell your parents okay?" I nodded my head and she left, going downstairs to make the tea.

"What did mom want?" Farrell walked out of his en suite wearing some old sweatpants and a long sleeved navy shirt. When I finished ogling him "She asked if we needed anything and I asked her to make you something hot to drink before going to bed. She told me I could use the guestroom next door." Farrell stared at me wide eyed, so I guess it's safe to say his mom rarely offers the guestroom to people. By the time his mom came around with the drinks, she made me some tea too (it was nice) Farrell was curled up under his covers and blanket, and me on top and we talked about everything and nothing up until the point we realised we were mates.

I told him about my break up with Missy; he had to laugh about her antics like actually shaking her fist at me and shouting. It was good seeing him laugh, it was the first sincere laugh I've seen him do in ages. Well, ages might be a bit extravagant, but it was a while before I actually knew him. I have seen him in school sometimes where he hung out with the other rock kids. I always wondered why he decided to stop hanging out with them so I asked him. "Why did you stop hanging out with Matt and his friends?" He looked shocked "You knew I hung out with Matt? Well I didn't know you at the time but I do know Matt." He seemed to consider my answer and said "I stopped hanging out with them because after a while it became apparent that we didn't have that much in common besides the way we dress, I didn't find it necessary to keep hanging out with them." He curled up sleepily on his side, snuggling deeper onto his bed.

I repressed a smile and put my arm around him, held onto him until I heard his rhythmic breathing telling me he was asleep. He made some grumbling noises when I untangled myself from him to go home. But I couldn't resist a goodnight kiss, so I kissed him and whispered him a goodnight.

When I got downstairs it was eleven thirty, when I was about to leave Elsie came to me saying she didn't want me to drive home at this time of night and that my mom stopped by to bring a fresh change of clothes for school tomorrow. Elsie had a stern look in her eye and even Thomas insisted I stay the night in the guestroom of course, since you could never be careful enough these days. So I gracefully accepted my defeat, and went back up stairs to the guestroom to change and get ready to sleep. I thought that I couldn't sleep knowing Farrell was just one door away but surprisingly I fell asleep with no problems.
