Mo is Terrifying
My mum had to go into work early today, so she dropped me off at school forty-five minutes early. I walked up the grey steps, then into the gleaming white building. It looked so innocent for a school that was full of beats. If Min-bae and Jodie weren't in this early, I'd be far more fearful than usual. I went straight to my registration class, and tried to open the door by pulling, then pushing, but it was locked. I'd just have to wait outside until someone opened the door. There weren't many people around, so hopefully, no one would bother me.
We weren't supposed to use our phones in school, and I didn't really want to risk getting caught using it, so I just stood waiting patiently.
I'd been staring off into space, when someone stood in my way. This person was tall, so I hoped it was Min-bae because he was very tall. But, if it was him, wouldn't he have said something?
I looked up and saw blood-red eyes. The guy in front of me had light-brown skin, and long black hair, which went down a bit past his chin.
“Hey, you're Fiona, right?” He asked with a smile, showing his ginormous fangs.
Why did all these vampires have to be so interested in me? And why did they all have to be so perfect looking? It just wasn't fair.
“Uh, yeah, I am.”
“I know you're in the same class as my brother, Zeke. You be careful with him, he's very sensitive.”
This guy must've been Mo — the one who ran the school. He was insanely creepy, he was acting friendly, but it seemed like it was in a fake way. Like those smiley people who turn into cold psychos within seconds.
“Umm, okay. I'll be his friend if that's what you want.”
I already sat with Zeke in a few of my classes, so it wouldn't be too difficult to be friends with him.
“That will do. For now,” Mo replied, and patted my arm.
My heart was beating superfast, which stressed me, since Mo could likely hear every single beat.
“You make sure to keep him happy, and don't break his fragile heart. Otherwise, you'll have to answer to me,” Mo said, and his charming smile had disappeared.
“I don't think I can be responsible for his happiness. And, you may think you run this school, but I'll date whoever I like.” I folded my arms.
Why did I just do that? Mo could murder me, and no one would even bat an eye. He'd get away with it.
“You watch how you speak to me!” He shouted, then punched the wall beside me.
I jumped out of my skin, and looked at the massive hole in the wall. Min-bae and Jodie hadn't been lying when they'd said Mo had anger issues. This was absolutely terrifying, and there didn't seem to be anyone around to help.
Just then, a boy walked round the corner, but his eyes widened, presumably because Mo was around. He walked right back round the corner.
“I was going to let you be friends with Zeke for a while, but now that you've annoyed me, that isn't the deal anymore.”
“Uh, what?” I asked with wide eyes.
What did this lunatic want me to do now?
“Well, now you're going to have to ask Zeke on a date. I'm sure you're well aware of how shy he is. He'd never have the guts to ask you out, so you have to do it.” He smirked. I'd never get used to seeing vampire fangs.
I noticed Min-bae come round the corner, and as soon as he saw me with Mo, he ran over.
“What are you doing?” He glared at Mo.
“Oh, nothing, just talking to Fiona,” Mo replied.
“You stay away from her. If you hurt Fiona at all, I swear, I'll kill you.” Min-bae took a step towards him.
“I'd like to see you try.” He chuckled. “Well, I should get going. Don't you forget our little deal,” Mo said, and looked at me as he walked past.
My chest felt extremely tight, and it was difficult to breathe; Mo had made me feel the most terror I'd ever felt in my whole life. I held my chest, and took in a few deep breaths, which helped a bit.
“Are you alright?” Min-bae asked, and hugged me with his comforting arms.
I stayed in the hug, until I was calmer, then let go. “I'm okay now. Thanks for coming over and helping, you really saved me.”
“It's no problem.”
“But, aren't you scared of him? Why would you risk making him your enemy?” I frowned.
It seemed like no one at this school stood up to Mo, they just let him get away with everything.
“I am, but I'd never leave someone I care about to deal with him on their own. You're even more vulnerable than most because you're a human, so there was no way I was leaving you alone with him.”
“Thank you, I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't come along. Mo is terrifying!”
“Yeah, everyone is scared of him.” Min-bae nodded. “What did he mean when he said your deal with him?”
“Oh my, it's awful. At first, he wanted me to be friends with Zeke, which is fine. He was going on about me keeping Zeke happy and not breaking his heart, so I got a bit mad and said I'd date whoever I wanted. He got furious, and made that hole in the wall.” I pointed to it, and his mouth fell open.
“Holy shit.”
“Yeah, then because I angered him, he said that I have to ask Zeke out on a date. Mo pretty much told me that Zeke likes me, but he's too shy to act on his feelings. So, now I have to date Zeke and keep him happy, or face Mo's wrath.” I sighed.
It wasn't even like I could do anything — all the teachers were in the palm of his hand, maybe even the police.
“We'll figure something out. He can't control who you date,” Min-bae replied and shook his head.
“I really don't see any other options.”
“Did he say when he wants you to ask Zeke out?”
“No, but I'd assume it has to be done today.”
“Then, we have until the end of the day.”
It really wasn't that long, but it would have to do. Jodie came over, and she had three bagels in her hands.
“Here, I got some breakfast from the canteen.” She held out the bagels.
“Oh, no, thanks, I had breakfast before I came. Anyway, I feel too sick to eat,” I said.
“More for me, then.” Min-bae smiled and took two bagels.
“Do you know why you're feeling sick?” Jodie asked, and I explained the whole situation to her. She had a look of horror on her face.
“Jesus, I knew he was bad, but I didn't think he was that bad. He really cares too much about his brother,” she said.
“It seems that way.” I nodded.
“Maybe, you could try talking to Zeke about it. He might be able to talk some sense into his brother.” Jodie suggested.
“What if he's just as crazy?”
“I don't think he is. It's worth a shot,” Min-bae said.
“I guess.”

Throughout all of my classes, I dreaded lunch — the time I was going to talk to Zeke at. Unfortunately, that time was now.
Jodie, Min-bae and I walked into the canteen, and we searched for Zeke. Then, I saw him sitting on his own, eating a gross bloody raw steak.
“There he is,” I said, and pointed at him.
“Go talk to him, we'll keep your space in line.” Jodie gently pushed me forward.
I was sweating so much, it was as bad as Niagara Falls. Zeke looked at me when I got closer, then stood opposite him.
“Oh hi, Fiona.”
“Hey, I need to talk to you.”
“Sure.” He nodded.
There weren't too many people in the canteen because our class had been let out a bit earlier than usual. It meant that it was much easier to hear Zeke, although he would've had no problem hearing me if the canteen was noisy.
“Your brother talked to me this morning. He wanted me to be your friend, which I was fine with. I ended up making him angry, so now, he wants me to ask you on a date. He threatened me, and I'm terrified. If I don't ask you out, he's going to attack me, or worse. I want to have the choice to date who I want, not be threatened into it.”
Zeke's eyes were almost bulging out of his head, he looked utterly horrified.
“I'm so sorry, I can't believe he did that,” Zeke said. “I'm going to deal with him. You should date who you want, or not at all if you don't want to. Again, I can't say sorry enough.”
“Thank you. So, now he won't come after me?”
“I'll make sure he doesn't.”
“Thanks.”
I went back to my friends, and felt a lot better than before. Zeke really wasn't anywhere near as bad as his brother. He was the only vampire so far who I could actually tolerate — there'd been the creepy one who wanted to be my partner in vampire studies, the one who gave me the berry, and the frightening Mo.
We all got food, then sat at one of the tables. The bell rang for the end of class, and within seconds, loads of vampires were in the canteen. They must've always been first in line because of their super speed; it was quite unfair.
I watched Zeke, and he got up from where he was sitting, then marched over to Mo. Zeke had a fierce, angry look all over his face and in his eyes, and his hands were in fists.
“Hey!” Zeke shouted, it was loud enough for me to be able to hear. The canteen went completely silent — everyone stared at Zeke and Mo.
“I heard what you did to Fiona. You stay out of it, and don't go near her!” Zeke grabbed Mo's arms.
It was strange seeing Zeke so angry, and taking on someone a lot taller than him.
“What's wrong with you? I'm helping you.”
“No! I don't want your help! It's wrong to threaten people, and force them to date someone! Mind your own business!” He yelled, then pushed Mo.
This was such a drama, none of the teachers were even intervening. In my old school, the teachers definitely would've broken up the fight.
“You should be grateful, you idiot! You don't even have the guts to ask a girl out.” Mo laughed.
“Shut up!” Zeke threw a punch at his brother, who dodged in a blur.
“You're nearly finished school, and you've never even had a girlfriend, or your first kiss for that matter. You need my help, and I know that you like Fiona. Just accept the help with a little thanks.”
“Fuck you!” Zeke shouted, then tackled Mo to the ground.
They were fighting so fast that I couldn't even see what was going on. It was hideous, I didn't like seeing fighting in real life, especially when I was partly the reason for it happening.
Mr Lee walked into the canteen, he dropped his cup of coffee, seeing two vampires fighting. Some girl ran up to check on him, but he waved her away. Mr Lee was over to Mo and Zeke in a flash, and he pulled them apart.
Mo barely had a scratch on him, but poor Zeke had blood coming from his lip and both his cheeks were red. I felt bad, since Zeke had been fighting because of me.
The noise returned to normal, since the fighting was over. I kept watching, and Mr Lee seemed to be telling them off. That surprised me — everyone seemed far too scared to stand up to Zeke or Mo.
“Why is Mr Lee shouting at them?” I asked with a frown.
“They respect him because his family in South Korea are one of the most powerful,” Jodie replied.
“Oh my, how many powerful vampire families are there at this school?” I rolled my eyes.
It felt like every vampire I met was from a powerful family.
“A few, maybe.” Min-bae shrugged. “I don't really keep track of them all. But, everyone knows not to mess with them.”
“But, you stood up to Mo earlier. Doesn't that put you in danger?” I asked.
“Possibly. But I don't care, he can't treat you like that.”
“I don't want you getting hurt, though.” I sighed.
Zeke had already been injured for standing up to his brother, and Mo had probably gone easy on him. It would be even worse for Min-bae; I'd be devastated if he got hurt.
“Don't you worry about me,” Min-bae said.

Later, I had vampire studies. I'd need to see if Zeke was alright after that fight. I went in with Min-bae and Jodie, then took the same seat I was in the last time.
A girl walked over, and I looked up at her. She was white, but there was a grey tint to her skin, so she must've been a zombie. She had long blonde hair, and she was tall and stick thin.
“You really should've asked Zeke out, he's so hot, mysterious, and he's a vampire. He's way out of your league, though,” she said.
“I don't remember asking for your opinion.” I glared at her.
Who did this bitch think she was? The Queen? It was none of her business, plus she'd been extremely rude.
“I'm just saying,” the zombie replied, then walked to her seat.
Zeke came in and sat beside me. His face still looked quite red from the fight, and his lip had a dark red scratch on it.
“Are you feeling okay?” I asked.
“I'm fine.” He nodded.
“Are you sure? I feel awful for causing a fight between you and your brother.”
“That's not your fault. Don't worry about it. I've got him to leave you alone.”
“Thank you so much,” I replied, then hugged Zeke. He was still for a few moments, as if in shock, then he put his arms around me.
Surprisingly, Zeke was warm. I'd always imagined vampires would be ice-cold, but it was clearly another myth. We let go of each other, and he had a small smile, it was so cute.
If only Zeke didn't have that horrible brother, then I might've actually considered dating him. Dating Zeke would mean having to see Mo way more often, which would be an absolute nightmare.
I'd rather date Min-bae anyway because he was really sweet and didn't have any scary family members that I knew of. I found werewolves a lot less scary than vampires, as well; Min-bae didn't even seem any different to a human.
But, I'd only been here for a few days, so I was in no rush to get into a relationship. I preferred getting to know someone pretty well before dating them. Maybe, I'd date one of the guys at this school in the future, but for now, I was happy with the way things were.
