Chapter Five: (Halloween_Everyday)

Warnings: blood, injuries
Janus wrapped his arms around Virgil's waist, pulling the taller of the two to stand behind him in a weak attempt to offer some protection. The creature tilted its head with an unsettling smirk. Its yellow teeth smeared with dark blood. Janus' hands clenched into fists as he stared the monster down, imagining all the ways he could wipe the smirk off its face. The creature continued stalking towards them, its movements clunky and disorganised. One of its legs dragged behind while it's arms and hands twitched, eager to dig its claws into the side's bodies.
Virgil's legs were shaking and if it wasn't for Janus' support, he would've collapsed long ago. He wasn't shaking because he was scared, well he was but that wasn't the reason, it was the steady flow of blood from his various wounds making the room spin and his vision to start to turn white at the edges. He held tighter onto Janus in an fruitless effort to stay upright. He looked around the room, trying to stay as awake and alert as possible. Taking in the dark walls and the cold wooden floor, both of which were smeared with blood but not all of it his own.
Janus stumbled slightly as Virgil's full weight rested on him, causing him to shift his position so that he could support Virgil. He had to get Virgil out of here, but Janus also had to make this monster pay for taking him.
"Stormy, go to Thomas"
"No...not leaving you" Virgil's voice was barely above a whisper as his head rolled to the side
"I'll be right behind you, go on"
Virgil weakly nodded and sunk out.
Now that Virgil was gone, there was nothing stopping him from beating this thing to a pulp. Janus turned to face the creature who was now directly in front of him. His eyes hardened as he summoned his staff, and got into a fight stance.
***
Virgil appeared in his usual place on the stairs with a loud thud. Logan was the first to notice him and immediately jumped to his aid.
"Roman, help me carry Virgil to the sofa, Patton get the first aid kit"
The other sides jumped into action patching up the side who passed out as soon as he arrived in the living room. Thomas stood in the corner biting his nails, guilt flooding through him. It was his fault Virgil was so injured. He left him. He left Virgil, who was just trying to protect him, and because of it, Virgil almost died. Remus sat next to Thomas, his leg bouncing as he kept glancing over to the stairs waiting for his best friend to appear, while also praying that the emo was okay.
No one dared say anything, they didn't want to be the first to break the heavy silence that fell over the room. They were all thinking the same things: what happened? Who did this? And where was Janus
***
Janus slammed against the wall, the air being knocked out of his lungs as he crumpled to the cold floor. 'This thing packs a punch' Janus thought as he used the staff to get to his feet. He just managed to dodge the giant paw aimed for his head and was able to land a hit on the creature's already damaged leg. It roared in pain and anger as it fell onto one knee, giving Janus enough time to roll away.
He spent the precious seconds while the creature stood up to catch his breath and plan his next move. He wiped the sweat from his brow, leaving a subtle trail of blood along his forehead. His cheek and jaw throbbed, bruises already beginning to form, and his mouth tasted of copper as blood leaked out of his busted lip.
A deep growl sounded behind him that shook through his bones. Adrenaline coursed through his blood as he spun around to face the monster. He wasn't scared, he probably should've been, but he was more angry. Angry at this monster for thinking that it could take Virgil and live. He summoned Remus' morningstar and slammed it against the creature's head with a sicking crack. Dark liquid matted the creature's fur, just under its eye, but it didn't stop it for very long. It quickly regained it's balance and swung for Janus' torso, its claws narrowly missing him.
The two continued like this, every so often one would land a hit but it wouldn't do much damage. Janus was tired, his body ached and the dried blood coating his skin was making it difficult to move, but he kept fighting. He wasn't sure why. Virgil was safe, he could easily sink out and join the others and hold Virgil close, but he wasn't going to. He was going to kill this creature if it was the last thing he did. He couldn't let it hurt anyone else.
He weakly swung the morningstar that was easily dodged, causing the creature to let out a throaty laugh. Janus faltered at the sound coming from the creature, his guard dropping just enough for the creature to sink its claws into Janus' chest. It felt like his chest was on fire, warm liquid running down his chest causing his shirt to stick to his body. All the air left his body as he screamed in pain, collapsing to the floor. The morningstar clattered beside him as his fingers gingerly reached to the wound but didn't get anywhere near touching it as the pain was unbearable.
He lifted his heavy head to see the creature lick the blood from his claws. 'If I'm going down, I'm taking this thing with me', Janus spurred himself on, reaching for the morningstar. He took a deep breath as he tried to stand without moving his torso too much. 'How does Remus carry this thing around all the time?' he thought as he strained to lift the weapon, catching the creature's attention.
It tilted it's head with narrowed eyes, watching as Janus struggled to stand. It was so preoccupied with watching Janus, it didn't notice the other person slip into the room. He stuck near the walls, staying in the shadows, as he made his way over to the bloody pair. He subconsciously fiddled with the chains hanging from his belt loops, his glasses sliding down his face from the light layer of sweat coating his face. As he crept across the room, he saw the creature raise it's paw to take one final swing, but before it could he called out to it,
"Enough! We need him alive"
