The Stanger
We headed straight forward, the rocks were slimy from algae and mold growing all over. I nearly slipped forteen times, but I could cling on to the rocks above me, supporting my arms and legs. There was a slight cry coming from the other side off the rock.
I had to get over there. One of my Best Friends was depending on it. I don't know if she made it all up, but I was going to find out. I did kind of hear what she described.
Amanda slipped, Luna tried to catch her but it seemed her hand went right throw Amanda's. I didn't take much notice but instead caught Amanda with my left leg. She hung to it. My hand was slipping off the rock. Jagged rocks were below us but farther down, was endless, deep, black, water. I wouldn't be able to hang on anymore. Amanda's hand was slipping of my leg by the second.
"HANG ON!" I yelled over the crashing wave under us.
Amanda gave me her worried look. Her hand was almost off my leg and she was not looking at me but at the sharp rocks under her.
"Luna!" I yelled over my shoulder. "Why aren't you helping me?"
"I-I," Luna stumbled. "I can't!"
"What do you mean?!" I yelled up at her.
Time was slipping. I was slipping. Amanda was slipping. And Luna wouldn't help? What had gotten into her? Was she betraying us? Was she going to run away laughing? Was Amanda and I going to die? Would something—
"I mean I can't!" Luna yelled over my thoughts. "It feels like your hand is going through my hand!"
"Th-hat's impossible!" I yelled trying to get a better grip of the rock I was hanging on to.
"Oh." said a small voice in the waves. "But it's not."
The voice frightened me to the bone. I looked down and saw Amanda's hand slip. She was falling through the waves in a split second. But right as I thought one of my Best friends were dead, right as Amanda came tumbling to the rocks, right as Luna screamed help, right as the wind gave a terrible roar, right as I looked in horror as Amanda fell, something shiny blue jumped out of the water, grabbed Amanda's arm, and landed in the water with a soft splash.
The wind gave a terrible last roar then the wave's stopped crashing and were still.
It was like the whole world was holding its breath, just for Amanda.
"AMANDA!!!" Luna and I screamed at the exact same time.
I hoisted myself back on the rock, I couldn't look at Luna. She wouldn't help me? Then I wouldn't even look at her.
"Bella?" Luna squeaked. "I'm sorry, I couldn't do it. I-I well I..."
"Don't even!" I yelled, turning around to face her. "If it weren't for Jasmine, Amanda would be all right! But noooooooo, she had to pretend that someone was crying! And she had to pretend that—"
"She wasn't pretending anything," said the small voice. "I was the one crying, but what do Humans care?"
"Um... Who are you," I asked looking in all directions. I couldn't see anything but rock, sea, and sky for miles. "Where are you? Why are you here? And what do you want?"
"So many questions that I won't answer," Said the voice. "Such shame even to ask."
"Don't worry Bella," Luna Whispered. "I'll find them."
She jumped off the ledge, I could hardly believe her! Was she going to commit suisid because Amanda had died? I mean I was in tears, more than tears! I was screaming in rage!
"FIND WHO!" I screamed behind greeting teeth.
"Find that voice! " Luna insisted.
"What vo—" I tried to say.
"Are you all talking about me?" said the small voice. It sounded like it was coming from the waves. "Because your friend isn't dead you know. I saved her because I want your help. And now, your, in my debt."
My mouth was hanging open. I saw who was talking. I could see her blueish silvery tail, her sparkling blue eyes, her dark brown flowing hair, her dark purple lips, and her astonishing beautiful face. She was a mermaid! A real live mermaid!
Luna gasped and flouted down to her....
Wait a second! I thought. Flouting!?! Flouting!?! FLOUTING!!! Was Luna now a ghost? We're do all my friends Monsters know? Why did the world hate me so much!
"What do you want?" I asked in a whisper.
"Something I can't do." She replied.
"What?" I demanded. "What can you possibly not do- Never mind. You can't walk on land."
I glared at her, she glared back.
"I want you to help me." She mused
"With?" I asked. "I can't sit here all day you know."
"Well you see my dad is a-a-a b-blob monster." she pretested. "It wasn't always like that though. He was-was turned into one. And I think that a gold photon that I learned about in my school is what I need to cure him. It's supposed to cure any monster to lay in it."
My eyes lit up. I could cure Amanda, Jasmine, and now Luna! It was like we were meant to meet up!
"How do I get there?" I asked rapidly.
"No no no no." she said waving a finger at me. "How do we get there."
I frowned. She was a very annoying Mermaid.
"How do we get there then." I asked annoyed.
"Well..." she started.
"WELLLLLLL!?!" I demanded.
"Well... I don't actually know."
"REALLY?!" Anger came to my head, WHAT THE HECK! SHE DOESN'T KNOW?! I thought, grinding my teeth. WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SHE ASK ME TO HELP IF SHE CAN'T EVEN GIVE ME DIRECTIONS?!
"But I have read about it," She continued. I gave her a stern look. "And..."
"ANDDDDD!?!" This mermaid was so slow and annoying I wanted to jump off the rock and run away screaming.
"And-"
"SPIT IT OUT!!!" I screamed.
"I think you need to take a breath, in-" My head almost exploded with anger.
"JUST. TELL. ME. ALREADY!!!!"
"Ok, ok, ok," She protested. I took a deep breath FINELY.
"See over there?" she pointed to the endless ocean waters.
"Uh... what?" I asked
"Look!" I raised my eyebrow in a confused look.
"I don't see anything except for water" I told her annoyed.
"Oh yeah" she snapped her fingers and then a big wall popped right in the middle of the ocean, I widened my eyes in disbelief.
"How did you-"
"I think you're gonna see more crazy things later." She said.
"What do you me-" I tried to say.
"Run along now- or should I say swim?" just then she snapped her fingers again and I was in scuba diving gear, this mermaid is like the fairy godmother holy!
"Aw and you," she studied Luna for a moment who I totally forgot was still there.
"You're dead so I'm guessing you can't drown?" When Luna heard that she was dead she widened her eyes, stunned.
"But I read about a ghost who, if they snapped their fingers could hold things." she said smiling at Luna. "And I bet if you did then you can. Try it!"
Luna tried and to my astonishment she was holding my hand, and I could feel her.
"Thank you!" Luna whispered in her ghost-like voice.
"Okay anyways," I said Calming down a bit. All eyes were on me. "What are we doing first?"
"We are going to look for a bottle with a note in it." she said.
"That's going to take a million years," I yelled at her. "I don't have time for this!"
"Who said you had time for anything?" she asked, looking in disgust at me. "You're just a Human!"
"So?" I demanded glaring at her.
"Whatever." She sighed. "Nothing. Not like you pullet the water, not like you take all the beautiful fish, not like you trap our animal's, none of that."
She sat down, and started to pout, arms folded in her lap. She was a sad looking mermaid. But when she talked about the Golden Lake like she did, it made me remember a dream I had last summer when everything had gotten creepy.
