Y/N POV

I slowly brought the mug up to my lips and took a sip of coffee before placing the mug back down on the table in front of me. Zoe had gone out to do the morning shop, leaving me alone in the house to look after S/N.

This wasn't exactly the hardest task anymore. We knew what he needed so if he ever got fussy we knew he'd need feeding or something else. At the moment he was just sat on the floor playing, I noticed he seemed to be partially distracted from something OTHER than his toys though which provoked me to ask "Hey buddy, what do you see?"

Following his eyes, I noticed his attention was fixed on Angie, who had remained on the top shelf in S/N's room ever since he was born. This wasn't the first time it had caught his attention either, he seemed drawn to the old doll, a fact I found quite odd, but by now, I'd grown used to. 

The sudden ringing of the house phone caught me off guard. I walked out of the room, leaving S/N just staring at the doll. I found the closest phone and picked it up, holding it close to my ear I pushed the answer button and asked "Hello?"

On the other end of the line I heard a familiar voice "Hi Uncle Y/N." I smiled a bit "Rose, hi, how are you?" My niece let out a sigh, I knew she didn't exactly have it easy. She was picked on a lot at school, didn't have many friends. Even so, she replied "Eh, you know, the usual."

I just commented "Fair enough." There was a moment of silence before Rose finally said "There's something I wanted to talk to you about though." I instantly said "Go ahead kid. What do you need?"

Rose then asked something, something which caused me to be confused. "Did you ever finish working on that serum?" I responded slowly, "We tried, but we've never managed to completely get it to purge the Mold from our bodies. You know that."

It was true, I had recreated the serum from the Baker home perfectly. However we soon found that it couldn't properly purge the Mold from our systems, just dull the effects. And I could tell that wasn't enough for Rose. 

"Why?" Was all I asked, she knew the serum I'd made couldn't properly fix things yet and that I was still working on amplifying it. Why was she suddenly bringing it up now as well? I soon received my answer.

"I've just had a talk with K. He may have found a lead that could finally get rid of the Mold for real!" 

At this I froze, I knew K was one of Chris' boys. Whether I trusted him or not was out of the question. I still didn't fully trust Chris, even after everything. I just stammered "W-what? What did he say? Where are you?"

Rose answered "I'm at some lab, I think. He said they found some of Miranda's old notes. She discovered a purifying crystal, that can, quote, 'remove the Megamycete from its host!" She sounded in disbelief, as if she didn't really believe it herself.

I asked "And how do you get this crystal?" There was a pause for a moment before Rose mumbled "That's the thing, the notes are incomplete and don't mention a where." She paused again, before saying "We think we know where we may find the remaining notes." "Okay, then where?" Was what I asked.

Rose explained, sounding sceptical in her tone. "Well, K showed me that they have a sample of the Megamycete here. With memories stored with in it, or something like that. He says if I reach out to it, I may be able to enter those memories and get those notes."

I raised an eyebrow, not that she could see me. "Seems you've got things pretty sorted out." Rose made a faint hiss "That's why I rang you. We don't know if it will work. You're the one who spent ages researching the Mold. Any advice?"

I began "I think, that it could be very dangerous. I have no idea if you'll be able to enter the Megamycete's 'memories'. I didn't know it HAD memories. And if you do, there is no telling what else you'll find in there. I wouldn't risk it."

Rose instantly interjected "But this could be the ONLY way for me to lose these freakish powers." I retorted "BUT, what would your mother say! Does she even know? It's too risky just diving into it not knowing what awaits."

"And I'll never know unless I do this. I'm not asking your permission. I was asking for advice. I'm doing this one way or another." I could do nothing more than just sigh calmly. "There is no stopping you then?"

Rose replied "You can try, but I won't listen." I couldn't help but laugh. "You remind me of your dad sometimes. Just promise me something." Rose stated "Anything." At this, I actually felt a lone tear go down my cheek. "Don't die. Come back with either those notes or that damn crystal you're so obsessed with." I said the last part in a light-hearted manner. Rose laughed a bit at my tone before saying "I will, I think. Bye Uncle Y/N."

I finally said "See you later kid." With that the call ended. I slowly got up and went over to one of the windows and stared out of it. My mind drifted, back to Ethan, would he approve? To Mia, did she know about this? Rose, she was desperate. The only words I could say to her were the following.

"Good luck Rose..."
