Chapter 71: The Factory's Products
Y/N POV
I fell through the large vent before impacting the ground with a loud thud. I groaned a bit before trying to get back to my feet. Looking back up from where I'd fallen, I saw the vent slam back shut again causing me to mutter "Damn you Heisenberg..."
Through the communicator, I heard a concerned Chris asking "/N! What was that? Are you alright?" I replied in a groggy tone "Just had a run-in with Heisenberg. Didn't go down to well. I'm going to continue searching the factory." Chris stated "Okay, keep me updated on what you find." Before he signed off.
Looking at my surroundings, it seems I'd been dropped into what seemed to be yet another corridor. At one end was some sort of circular metal hatch, however it was completely sealed with no way to open it from my end.
That just left the corridor heading the other way, I followed it along, eventually coming to the end where I once again found my path blocked by a lowered shutter door. My frustration only managed to increase from here as I spat "Why? There has to be-."
I looked around, when I noticed a hole in the floor. A circular chute, I couldn't quite see the end of it as the pipe curved out of sight. I looked some more, hoping there would be an alternative route, there was NOT.
With reluctance, I approached the chute and allowed myself to slip into it. I slid through the dark tunnel as it wound all over the place before I was abruptly flung out the end. I hurtled through the air for a moment before managing to land on a long metal slab.
It seemed the chute had deposited me into some sort of scrap pile, possibly the waste disposal for the whole factory. I didn't want to stick around here any longer than I had to, so I wasted no time navigating my way through the scrap, climbing over the piles as best I could.
Some of this proved to be difficult as occasionally, the scrap would move from under me, causing me to slip a bit and have to regain my footing. Eventually though, I spotted a ladder right at the edge of the pit I was in, I headed in that direction, climbing over any remaining metal before performing a leap of faith, gripping onto the bottom rung of the ladder.
Managing to keep a firm grip, I pulled myself up so I was properly holding onto the ladder before I slowly began to climb up, making my way out of the pit and onto a nearby walkway. I stopped for a moment, catching my breath as I looked down at the scrap pile muttering "I guess that wasn't the little taster Heisenberg was talking about."
As if on cue, I heard the sound of groaning which caused my head to snap up, looking in the direction of it. My eyes widened as I saw three creatures approaching. They somewhat resembled the cybernetic ones I'd fought before however they lacked the large chunks of machinery and instead of drills grafted onto their bodies, they wielded axe's made out of chunks of scrap.
Image of a Hauler:
They approached in a manner similar to that of the Lycans, at first staggering before abruptly racing forward with their weapons in hand. I decided to use my handgun and wasted no time opening fire.
Thankfully, they were much weaker than the other monsters I'd fought here. While the previous creatures had only one specific area which could be damaged, these ones did not. They were no more durable than the Lycans or the Moroaica, a handgun was more than enough to deal with them.
About three well-placed shots to the head were enough to take them out, the first knocked the metal piece off its head, the second and third were the ones that actually did the damage to put them down. It only took a few minutes to take all three down.
I did briefly inspect them after they'd been dealt with. I guess this was what Heisenberg DID mean when he said he wanted to give me a taste of what the factory had to offer. Was this his little army? If so, I wasn't impressed yet.
Then again, I'd seen before the factory putting together a number of creatures and the others I'd encountered before were certainly tough with their weak point being the only way to damage them. But these specific creatures were no different from the Lycans aside from their obvious change in appearance.
I assumed this was what Heisenberg wanted, there was no doubt he was watching me at this very moment, wanting to get a measurement of my skill in combat. I guess my best option was to just wander the factory until I either found a way out, Heisenberg told me a way out or Ethan somehow showed up.
Based off what Heisenberg had said regarding the Lycan stronghold, I could only hope Ethan was up to the challenge and would have that flask by now. Like I'd said before, I had confidence in him to make it through this trial. His chances were just as good as mine.
With those thoughts being used to console my mind, I continued on deeper into the factory. I encountered more of these creatures along the way. Again though, they weren't all that difficult. I had enough ammo to get through them, but if I found the Duke again, I'd certainly need to restock my supply.
After following the paths along for a while I reached a T-junction. I could either head straight on, follow the corridor along for who knows how long. Or I could turn left, go down another corridor to another part of the factory.
I chose left. Which at first, seemed like a good idea. However shortly after going down that route, a wall slammed down behind me. I don't even mean a door, it was an actual brick wall. Turning around, I placed my hands on it, looking for any way to lift it again, however I found nothing.
Briefly pounding my fist on it, I commented "Damn it, I'm stuck!" I soon regained my composure, turning to look back down the new corridor I'd discovered adding "I guess this is my route then."
I began to walk down the corridor, cautious as to what I'd found. I doubted I'd seen everything this factory had to offer. I reached a flight of stone steps leading upstairs which I followed up to the next floor.
Here, after walking for a minute or two, I came across a large square room. Similar to the one where Heisenberg had first contacted me via the speakers. A series of tools were strewn about on workbenches and tables.
On one bench in particular however I spotted a note, walking over I picked it up and gave it a read. The note went on to provide quite a bit of interesting information.
'The Soldat army is coming along nicely. But I fear I'm running out of time. Miranda brought that brat here and split her up into those four flasks. She's given one to each of us. Of course that giant bitch complained, saying she wanted all four of them. Thinks she's so special.
I know it's a matter of time before we're all no longer needed and Miranda has us wiped out. I've got to act quickly and begin my revolution. The Haulers and the Lycans may be enough, but I can't afford to make room for error.
This has to go PERFECTLY!'
Once I'd finished reading, I placed the note back down on the table. So, Heisenberg had a bit of a time crunch. I assumed from his words the Haulers and the Soldats were the creatures I'd fought, by how he'd worded them, a Soldat was the armoured ones with the core in the chest while a Hauler were the weaker, easier to deal with ones.
Looking up, my attention turned to the door leading out of the room. Like ones I'd seen earlier in the factory. Metal with a red light in the centre of it. I was about to head over to it when I noticed something else of interesting.
At first it appeared to be just a giant slab of metal. However upon closer inspection, I soon noticed it was actually a Mold of sorts. Not the virus, an actual Mold. With the imprint of a cog in the centre of it.

(This isn't the same one Ethan finds, just wanted to establish that.)
Given how I was just finding my way around the factory, I picked the Mold up, possibly having a use for it in the future. With it in hand, I went over to the door and smashed the little light in the centre, causing the door to open. I took a deep breath and continued.
I didn't know however, how long I'd been knocked out exactly. Soon, things would become much clearer. That is, if Ethan could make it here in one piece...
Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, now this one definitely proved difficult to write. I did most of it yesterday but was unable to actually finish it because I was too busy. I do hope you liked it and as always, thank you for reading.
