Chapter 7: Attempted Escape, the Wheelchair in the Corner

Y/N POV

I sat upright on the bed, my hands clasped on either side of my head. It had been about three hours since Jack had locked me in here for 'being disruptive and rude towards the family'. This wasn't the first time he'd done this either.

Almost three years had passed since I had first been found by the Bakers. Since then I'd been granted a gift, a gift which came at a steep cost. My mind was completely fractured, sometimes I would act normal and at others I was forced to become a monster.

And SHE had full control over when this happened.

Eveline or 'Evie' as she liked being called decided she wanted me to be her uncle. I remembered Mia's note and knew she was the cargo on the ship that had broken out and taken over the entire Baker family aside from Zoe who ever since that night was left on the run from her own family.

My eyes shifted around frantically, I'd been in situations like this before. A number of times I had attempted to find Mia and escape. Not too long ago though Mia had just vanished after resisting Evie's desire for her to be her mother.

I got up from the bed and began ransacking the place. One thing about this house was that there seemed to be secret passages, buttons and switches all over the place. While I didn't find anything like that in this room, I did find something of use to me.

As I was rummaging through the drawers, I shifted some old clothes and came across a single lockpick, resting at the bottom. A grin spread across my face as I commented "Awfully convenient but I'll take you."

Image of the Lockpick:

It seemed too good to be true, that there would be a lockpick right here, hidden in this room that Jack happened to lock me in. Even so, I couldn't pass up this opportunity to escape. With the pick in hand, I slowly approached the door.

Sticking the tip into the lock, I twiddled faintly until I heard a click. I gave the door a faint push, allowing it to slip open. The pick dropped to the ground with a faint tap. I stepped out of it and once more found myself on a long corridor within the main house.

Over the last few years I had managed to memorise the overall layout of the property and instantly began making my way towards the centre of the house. A meal time must have concluded recently as I'd heard a commotion not too long ago. It didn't matter to me.

The Baker family kept bringing in guests and feeding them their special Mold-covered foods. These guests never lasted long, before Jack would freak out and end up killing them sometimes even devouring them as well. I'd only met a few of them, a man named Clancy Jarvis was a recent example of this and of course, much like the others he disappeared shortly after our encounter. I assumed the the commotion was just another of those incidents.

I continued through the house, making my way around the upper floors until I finally arrived in the hall. I wasted no time heading towards that very same door I exited three years ago, where I found that trailer.

I tried opening the door however this time it wouldn't budge. I soon noticed that the three-headed dog on the door was missing two of its heads. Small slots for what I believed were emblems needed to open said door. That only added to my concern.

Suddenly I heard a shrill, shrieking voice behind me yelling "HEY! What are you doin' out of your room?! I remember Jack put you there as punishment!" Turning around I was met with Jack's wife, Zoe's mother, Marguerite Baker.

Image of Marguerite Baker:

I met her for the first time shortly after Eveline found me and Zoe in the trailer. She slowly approached me, a lit lamp in hand, saying "I'm suppose I'm gonna have to be the one to punish you this time!"

As always, a swarm of flies buzzed around her body, other insects crawled on her skin creating quite a disgusting image. However through all this, a grin was plastered across her face as she approached.

Luckily for me, I was able to slip past her and instantly took off back up the stairs. Marguerite called out after me in a shrill psychotic tone "Aww, come on Y/N! Come on out and play!" I didn't listen to her goading and instead kept on running.

I went up the opposite staircase to the one I came in so I wasn't backtracking into what I knew for certain was a dead-end. I knew I'd hopefully be able to find a hiding space in which I could lose Marguerite. As I was searching though, I came across a disturbing surprise.

I pushed open the door to one of the rooms and saw it was empty. I rushed inside and shut the door. I couldn't hear Marguerite anymore so at first I assumed I was safe, that was until I turned around and nearly leapt from my skin.

In  the corner of the room was a wheelchair, completely stationary. Sat in it was an extremely frail elderly woman, her whited out eyes stared at me with a blank look that even then held malicious intent. I didn't allow this to fool me though.

I saw right through this. After a while, Eveline had become unstable, without the necessary serums to keep her body in check, she began rapidly aging until she was reduced to the state sat before me. This elderly woman was the very same as the little girl who had caused so much trouble for me, Mia and the Baker family, dooming us all to this fate.

Image of elderly Eveline:

I approached the wheelchair, rage building up within me. Eveline kept her intense, piercing gaze fixed on me the whole time as I spat "Well, look what a state you appear to be in." I chuckled and added "You've been a massive pain Evie."

I stopped right in front of the wheelchair and snarled down at her. My mind felt dark. My anger towards the extremely powerful B.O.W in front of me only increased and in her current state, I thought I could end things right then and there. Unfortunately, things weren't going to be this easy.

As I reached out towards her I suddenly gasped and staggered back. My hands once again clasped at my head. I looked at Eveline with wide eyes as I murmured "Eveline, Evie. No. Please don't..." Eveline said nothing and just continued to stare at me, her eyes glaring into my soul.

Before she could gain full-control of my mind, I raced from the room. Not caring about Marguerite or any of the other members of the Baker family. My only concern was getting away from Eveline.

I wasn't looking where I was running and ended up colliding with another person. As I fell backwards into a wall, I panicked, thinking it was Jack or Marguerite or maybe even Lucas. But then I heard an all too familiar voice I never expected to hear out here.

"Y/N, is that you? Are you alright?"

Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, I really hope you liked it. I think you know who this is at the end so I will just say the next chapter should be interesting. I hope you enjoy that as well and as always, thank you for reading.
