Chapter 68: The Cybernetic Abominations

Y/N POV

The door to the storage area shut behind me, leaving Chris with the computer. I thought about what he'd told me. About Miranda AND Mia. Could she still be alive out there? Had Miranda captured her? I didn't know, and it seemed Chris didn't either.

As much as I wanted to discover the answers to this, it would have to wait for now. Right now, my priority was exploring Heisenberg's factory and finding that final flask as well as perhaps gaining some more information into what was going on here.

What was Miranda's plan? Moreau mentioned wanting to bring her 'special child' back through a ritual. However his explanation was a mix of vomiting and babbling so I could barely piece it together. From what I understood, Miranda once had a child. One she wanted to resurrect. But what did Rose have to do with this? Maybe I'd find out here.

I navigated a series of dark corridors within the factory. I had no idea where I was going in truth, I just had to keep a note of the routes I was taking so I wouldn't get lost. Nearby I could hear what sounded like operating machinery, it's safe to assume I was approaching the main body of the factory. The effects of the dart had worn off by this point so I was able to walk stably now.

I reached into my pocket for the communicator Chris had handed me. While I walked, I fumbled about with it, switching the device on before tuning into the frequency which Chris had written on a small scrap of paper taped to the back of it.

Placing the communicator to my mouth, I spoke into it. "Hello, Chris. This is Y/N, can you hear me?" I sighed with relief when Chris replied "Loud and clear. Did you find something already?" Even though I knew he couldn't see me, I shook my head before responding.

"Not yet, I just needed to make sure the communicator worked. I'm heading down a corridor going towards the main bulk of the factory. I can hear what sounds like machinery up ahead." Chris commented "Okay, keep me informed on what you find."

I began "Right, I'll be-." Suddenly I heard another noise, aside from the machinery. It sounded like footsteps, however accompanying them was a loud clunking noise right after each step. Up ahead was dark, however with the dim, lights overhead, I could just about make out a figure stood under the dim lights.

At first it appeared to be just any person, I still kept on my guard though, it could have been a Lycan for all I knew. I was wrong, if it was a Lycan, no big deal, I'd fought several of them since arriving here. This though, was something different.

The figure slowly turned in my direction and my eyes widened. It looked humanoid in figure, however grafted onto its body were huge chunks of machinery. Its entire left arm was covered in metal with a drill tool at the tip.

Image of a Soldat Eins:

The cybernetic arm was connected by a series of wires built into its torso and right in the centre of that was a glowing circle which I assumed was the replacement for the heart, with a metal grid over the top of it.

As soon as it noticed me, the drill began to whir into action. Upon seeing this, I instantly thought back to something that Heisenberg had said when we'd first encountered him in the castle.

'I could have fitted you with some great modifications at my factory'

I hadn't understood him back then, how could I? I had no idea what was even going back then. Looking back, it was actually kind of funny how naïve I'd been. Of course I could have figured it out. But actually seeing it, I couldn't help but grimace as I muttered "You are a sick man Heisenberg."

My train of thought was cut off as the creature approached before thrusting its mechanical arm forward. I narrowly managed to dodge out of the way and stepped back a bit in an effort to clear some distance.

Next I reached for my handgun and opened fire. By force of habit, I aimed for the head, after all that was the weak point of all previous creatures I'd encountered. However, this time was different. The cyber monster did flinch, however after shooting about four shots with no sign of falling down, I spat "Damn, what is this thing?!"

It attempted to dive forward again with its drill and it was at this point, I once again noticed the glowing core in the centre of its torso. Again, I muttered to myself "I wonder..." Before holstering my handgun and drawing my magnum.

In a swift motion, I raised the magnum and blasted the core head on. The first shot caused the creature to stagger back, the second completely obliterated the core! This action sent the creature crashing to the ground, where it became motionless.

I just stood, staring down at the creature for a moment, confused. I took a moment to inspect the body, the metal modifications it had added onto it. It looked like something Victor Frankenstein would create.

My head snapped up though when I heard what sounded like an engine revving up followed by a propeller spinning frantically. I'd briefly heard it before, but it had blended in with the other factory noises in the distance. It stood out more now because it appeared to be getting LOUDER!

Any sane person would have ran in the other direction, however at this point I'd faced a number of dangerous creatures between both the Baker home years ago and in this very village. While I did feel fear, I was able to swallow it.

I carried on down that corridor, rounding a corner. The propeller sound was getting louder meaning either I was getting closer. It eventually reached a point where I was right outside a metal door, on the other end of which the noises became far louder than they'd been before. It was apparent whatever was causing them was on the other side of this door.

I raised my magnum, having it on guard in case I needed to shoot anything that attacked. Taking a deep breath, I swung the door open, putting my magnum in front of me. I froze up, not because of what I saw, but what I DIDN'T see. The room was completely EMPTY!

Standing there for a minute, I was confused. The noise could still be heard very loud however nothing seemed to be associated with it. I remained still, aiming my gun all over the place. It was just as I was starting to calm down that the wall to the room suddenly broke down!

Spinning around, I was shocked as another 'modified' creature. This one though really caught me off guard. Its legs were very much human, however its entire torso, head and arms were replaced with an engine attached to a propeller, I knew this had to have been what was making the noise I'd heard.

I yelled "What the hell is that?!" Before turning my magnum towards it and opened fire, I only got about two shots before my magnum needed to reload. I had the ammo to do so, but I had noticed that this new creature seemed wasn't even phased and given how potent the magnum had been up to now, even against the likes of Moreau, that didn't bode well.

My only option for now was to run. I retreated out of the door and began running down the corridor. The sound of the propeller spinning continued. Briefly glimpsing back, I saw the creature almost teetering as it ran, the propeller blades occasionally striking the walls.

I reloaded my magnum and holstered that as well, swapping to my rifle and turning back to look through the scope. Because I was still running, it was difficult to get a stable aim. I did my best though and fired, unfortunately, not matter what, those rounds didn't have much effect either! It was a shame I'd used all my pipe bombs and mines on Moreau. Hopefully there'd be some more here.

This chase was kept up for some time, I knew that I couldn't keep it up much longer. I would begin to tire out soon, I didn't know if this thing would do the same. I began looking for a means to escape.

Further down the corridor, I noticed a vent duct close to the ground, I ran over to it and grabbed the vent itself. I tried pulling desperately. That creature was fast approaching, propellers still grinding against the walls, making sparks fly out.

Finally, I got the vent cover off and wasted no time crawling into it. I could barely fit through the gap, however I just about managed to escape that strange propeller creature. I could hear it trying to get into the vent behind me.

I kept crawling though, I had no idea where I'd end up, but I had a feeling that wasn't the last time I'd be seeing that thing...

Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, I really hope you enjoyed it. I'm still trying to work things out with this part of the story, I have a few ideas, it's just a matter of fitting them together in a way that makes sense. I hope you like those as well and as always thank you for reading.
