Chapter 18: Burning the Hive!

Y/N POV

So, that was it then? There was no 'serum' existing, but there was a way to make one. If Zoe did in fact already have the D-Series head, then all we needed was the arm. And we still had the upstairs of this house to check.

Turning to Ethan, I said "Right. We'd best not waste any time. Lets go." Ethan nodded and said "Right." With that, we both made our way to the the corridor off shooting from the strange altar. This lead us up a small flight of stairs where we found a door leading to a very cluttered room.

Despite how much was in there, we found nothing of importance, a strange voodoo-esque doll that I analysed saying a quick "Hmm." Before putting it back down on the table. We also found a stock of magnum ammo for me and shotgun shells for Ethan, but of which we took. Aside from that though, there was nothing more to find so we left.

After that we headed out and to the left, down another corridor where we were once again met with a door. This time though, as Ethan reached out to open it, we found it locked. There was no sign of a keyhole so how we could open it was somewhat confusing.

Looking around though, I noticed that the door was attached to an old scale, completely unbalanced with one end weighed down by a lamp identical to the one Marguerite always carried. I spoke to Ethan "Seems to open this door we'll need to balance this scale. But the question is, where can we find-."

It instantly clicked. I sighed in disgust and said "Seems we need to go back to find Marguerite's lantern. That should balance things out here perfectly." Ethan confidently said "Well what are we waiting for then? Come on."

Not bothering to voice my discontent going anywhere near Marguerite again. And things only managed to get worse, because as soon as we opened the door with the bird on it again, we heard the all too familiar groans of Marguerite, alive and well.

With our flamethrower and grenade launcher at the ready just in case, we approached the crater she'd dropped us into earlier. What we saw at the bottom shocked even ME! Which was surprising, especially after everything I'd seen during my time here.

Marguerite seemed to have disappeared at first, the black liquid from before had gone and her lantern just lay on the floor. But then, out of a narrow slot in the wood, a large skinny arm reached out, too long to belong to that of an ordinary human however judging by the growls it was obvious who this belonged to. The arm reached out, grabbed the lantern and retreated back into the hole, out of sight.

Ethan looked down before saying "Well, she's not dead then. We've got too follow her." I growled in annoyance and said "Okay. I'll go first, it may be a tight squeeze down there." With that we both leapt into the pit below and instantly navigated into the tunnel.

Up ahead we could see the silhouette of a spider-like figure crawling away. Ethan commented "What the fuck? Well that's special." We kept our weapons drawn and thankfully, the path wasn't that long, at the end we found ourselves at a single which naturally, we began climbing.

Strangely enough, the ladder lead us outside, quite a distance from the old house. I stepped forward as Ethan climbed out stating "This, I think it's the greenhouse." To that Ethan just commented "Matches the rest of this freaky place." Before stepping forward.

I followed close behind as we ascended the stairs, entering the greenhouse proper. As soon as we went inside we began looking around for anything of use. I noticed a tray full of green herbs which I knew could be used for medical purposes so I took them.

Ethan found some more fuel for the flamethrower but aside from that there was nothing in that entrance room. We resumed our search, heading deeper into the greenhouse. Even I'd never been here before so it was new territory for me as well. No matter how much we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling we were being watched and I soon learned why.

We came across some stone stairs, at the top of which was a window with wooden boards covering it. Naturally we began ascending that's when we were ambushed!

Marguerite burst through the window with a maniacal laugh! She swiped at Ethan with an abnormally long arm, knocking him off his feet before grabbing at his ankles and yelling in a distorted tone "NOW YOU AND ME! WE'RE GONNA SETTLE THIS!"

I wasted no time yelling "Ethan get down!" I pulled the trigger on my magnum and fired a round directly into Marguerite's forehead! She shrieked and let go of Ethan before retreating back into the doorway.

We raced up the stairs as we heard Marguerite yelling "DON'T LOOK UP!" Doing exactly what she told us not to do, we saw her drop from a hole in the ceiling. To my surprise, she had mutated a lot since our last encounter.

Her arms and legs were extremely long, bending at strange angles to look even more insect-like. Her lower torso had changed as well to resemble the insect hives we'd seen a lot of in the old house.

She struck us with her arms and knocked us both through a hole in the greenhouse floor! She added another scream "I'M NOT GONNA MISS YOU AT ALL!" She lunged at us however Ethan raised his shotgun and hit her in mid-air, causing her to flop onto her back and thrash about!

We took this moment to use the flamethrower and incendiary grenade rounds respectively to shoot fire all over Marguerite! She howled in pain thrashing more recovering and crawling away like an actual spider!

We rushed upstairs in pursuit of her and we soon found her clinging to one of the walls. I loaded another grenade round and fired it. Igniting Marguerite ablaze and knocking her down. Ethan pelted her in shotgun shells as she began crawling along the ceiling in a disturbing manner!

We continued to shoot at her until once again, she raced away. We pursued her deeper into the greenhouse. I knew we'd have to kill her to get hold of her lantern. We kept following until at last we seemed to corner her once again.

Ethan ignited his flamethrower, completely incinerating Marguerite's insect-like body. That's when I felt it, the same rage I felt during my battle with Jack. I raised my grenade launcher and fired another incendiary round at her!

She was knocked back by the blast and one final time she retreated, burrowing into the ground to escape. By this point I was getting enraged. Turning to Ethan I sternly instructed "Ethan give me the flamethrower."

Ethan didn't argue and said "Here." He then asked "What are you gonna do?" I replied "I'm going to put an end to this insect problem once and for all." With that, Ethan kept his shotgun on hand while I used the flamethrower and took off in search of her.

It didn't take long, I found a ladder leading to another floor. Ethan was close behind me and at last, we finally found Marguerite one last time, latching to the wall, seemingly feeding off of it! This was it!

I started with an incendiary shell that exploded into flames causing Marguerite to fall to the ground. Before she could get up I brandished the flamethrower and went full-force! The fire streamed out, Marguerite thrashing about.

She released a swarm of those large insects from the cocoon on her stomach however I instantly burnt them before turning back to her. My eyes widened as a maddening expression spread across my face.

For a moment I lost my sense as I began muttering "Yes. Burn. BURN!" I kept the flames up full-force. Marguerite screaming however I didn't stop. I drained the entire fuel canister and once it ran out, THEN I stopped.

Marguerite attempted to get onto her knees, the fire still blazing around her. It managed to die down however she suddenly began convulsing and making disturbing noises, her body turned dark and rotten, even more-so than before.

I didn't know what to expect however then she seemed to turn white and solidify completely like rock! I stared at the sight before me, Ethan was off to the side, his shotgun drawn having witnessed the whole thing before asking "What just happened?"

To that I replied "I don't know, I think it's over though." As if on cue, the solidified Marguerite crumbled away into nothing. Upon noticing that Ethan yelled "Now fucking stay dead! Okay?!"

I remained motionless, the flamethrower extended out in front of me. Ethan stepped forward, searching the remains before holding up the familiar lantern of Marguerite saying "Here it is. Now lets get back to that house."

I was paralysed though, it's not that I didn't want to move, more that I couldn't. I was frozen in place. That's when I heard a voice in my mind that made my blood run cold and a chill run down my spine.

"You've been very badly behaved uncle. Now you're going to pay..."

Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter. The next few chapters should be interesting since I plan to make Y/N's path a bit more independent as opposed to just following Ethan. His path to Lucas will be different than Ethan's and they will split up, not meeting again until the final battle with Jack. I really hope you enjoy that when I get round to it. I also hope you liked this chapter and as always, thank you for reading.
