Chapter 12: The Phone Call, a Display of Trust

Y/N POV

I guess it was finally time for the outside then. Ethan had found the three dog head reliefs and I'd managed to either kill or at least subdue Jack long enough for us to leave this house and be one step closer to putting this whole ordeal behind us.

Jack's words though put me on edge. Initially I'd just planned to convince Ethan to leave, then worry about me and Mia afterwards. However now I knew Ethan was ALSO infected with this Mold, making it impossible to leave. The game had changed completely, now it was a matter of figuring out this antidote Mia's note mentioned.

Even though it had been three years, my mind still hadn't fully recovered. I had no memory of the antidote and all I had to go off of was the memory of the note Mia left that me and Zoe found. Perhaps SHE had figured something out.

I instantly left the room where Jack's legs lay motionless. I backtracked all the way through the underground paths, retracing my steps through the Mold-covered walls until I finally arrived at the stairs heading back up to the house itself.

Ascending the stairs, I walked past the spare bedroom where I found that note talking about the three reliefs and reached the door with the scorpion engraving on it. Luckily, it was still unlocked. I opened it and entered the main hall once more.

Wasting no time, I instantly headed to the door with the three-headed dog emblazoned on it. And thankfully, all three reliefs were in their proper place. I gave the great hall a glance once more, saying "I won't miss you."

I gave the door a push and sighed with relief as it swung open revealing the dark outside for me to see. I stepped out onto the decking before stepping onto the grass. Looking up at the sky, I thought about the first time I came out here three years ago.

That wasn't the last time I'd made it out of the house, in fact it was because of one of me and Mia's efforts that the Bakers decided to remove and scatter the three reliefs throughout the main house. That was about a year ago and since then I hadn't seen Mia OR been given the chance to leave the house! It seemed the Bakers were intent on keeping us split up.

Now that I was finally out of the main house, I had no idea where to go next. For a moment I was left completely stumped until I remembered the trailer where me and Zoe had found Mia's note in the first place. To my knowledge, it hadn't been moved at all. I would be best starting my search there.

I headed out across the grass in the direction of the trailer. Sure enough, I soon found it exactly where it had been before, a dim light inside was visible through the window. Approaching the door to the trailer.

The interior had changed quite a bit since my last visit. It was clear that somebody had been living here, bird cages littered the rooms. Each one held an item. The wardrobe had multiple sets of clothes, clearly female though they could belong to Zoe, Mia or just another of their female victims in the past. That last one was unlikely as I don't recall any of their victims making it this far.

As I was about to begin searching the room when suddenly a phone on a set of draws rang. I looked at it for a moment, unsure whether to answer it or not. My curiosity got the better of me though, I picked the phone off the stand and called "Hello?"

Much too my surprise, the voice on the other end was none other than ZOE! She replied "I had a feelin' that if Ethan managed to get out of that house, you'd be not too far behind. Like I said to him, you two are the first to ever make it this far."

I urgently began "Zoe, thank god, are you alright? Where are you?" To that Zoe responded in a quiet yet clearly angry tone. "Why should I tell you that? For all I know you could just be like my family, this could all just be a trap."

"Zoe I-." I tried reasoning however I was cut off "NO! I've seen what that girl's 'gift' has done to you! You may be able to control yourself most of the time, but sometimes you still slip. Remember the last time we met up?"

How could I forget that, before Jack had me locked in the house, I'd managed to rendezvous with Zoe not too far from this trailer. On the way there I'd been in complete control of myself. However as soon as Zoe showed up, Eveline flipped the switch. I attacked Zoe with the savage fury of a wild animal, she barely was able to escape with her life.

I paused for a moment, looking at the floor before saying "Zoe, you said it yourself, I lost control. Please, you know why I'm here. It's important we find out about that serum. You have to trust me on this."

There was a long silence before I heard Zoe sigh on the other end as she said "I know Y/N. From what I've got a strange feelin' my mother may have hidden something related to the serum inside the old house on the other end of the property. I sent Ethan there to look for it."

I nodded saying "Right, sounds like a plan, we get this serum then we can all get out of here. You included yes?" Zoe replied "Yeah, and thank you Y/N, for helpin' me with this. Like I warned Ethan though, be careful around my mother, she's dangerous. I do have something that may be able to help."

As she mentioned that, I asked "What is it?" Zoe began explaining "Look to your right and you should see a bird cage with a gun in it. Normally it would require nine of those strange antique coins that are scattered around. But I have a stash of them in one of the draws. I'd have given it to Ethan but he seemed already armed enough and I knew you'd be comin'."

I commented "So, you set this aside for me despite not trusting me? Why?" Zoe sighed a second time before saying "I'm trustin' you now. I understand you and your sister aren't in control completely but unlike my family, at times can break free. Please, don't make me regret it." I responded "I won't Zoe. And I promise, we're going to get out of here, both of us."

Zoe said "I hope you're right." Before the line went dead. I placed the phone back on its stand before rummaging through the various draws. At first I found nothing related towards the coins, I kept searching though.

Eventually, on the underside of one particular draw I felt a small button, I pushed it and heard a light click. At the back of one of the draws, a small area opened up revealing about twelve of those coins. I scooped up the nine needed for the particular birdcage.

(I chose to do this to save an entire chapter based around Y/N looking for those coins.)

Looking around the trailer at each bird cage, I eventually found the one in question. Inserting the coins into the slot, the little gate swung open. Reaching in, I gripped the holster of the gun inside and pulled it out.

My eyes widened, in my hand was a 44 MAGNUM! I was somewhat surprised that Zoe had come across one of these. But even more so that she had just kept it locked in a cage in her trailer, this would probably have worked wonders against Jack!

Continuing to analyse the gun, I regained my composure, recovering from the wonder. A grin spread across my face as I cocked the gun and held it tightly. With a weapon of this calibre at my disposal, I felt much more confident about my odds.

Now though, it was time to take Zoe's advice and inspect this 'old' house...

Author's Note: And that's it for this chapter, I really hope you enjoyed it. Funnily enough, this chapter was based off an idea I had for my last book 'The Wesker Brother' originally I was going to put RE7 and Village in that but realized they wouldn't have fit in with that one since those games are seemingly disconnected from the previous entries, so I'm getting to reuse a few of my ideas, kind of like the battle with Jack in the last chapter, played out similar to how I considered having it play out in the last story. Now we're moving on to the next part of this segment and as always, thank you for reading.
