12. Seeing Things Clearly

(POV) Adam

Marcus grabbed onto my arm as we pulled away from the hug.

"Whoa there, what're you doin'?" I asked. Marcus laughed as Bree and Chase grabbed onto each other's hands. Those two, still so cute together. I just wanted to walk over there and pinch little Chase-y's cheeks. He finally found a girl. Given she wouldn't have been my first choice for him at first, but now, I'm totally on board.

"We're going back to the apartment building, Adam." Marcus replied as he held his hand... Or metal hand, on my arm. If felt like that robotic hand that the three of us picked up off of Davenport's desk the day we switched chips. That was crazy. Wait.

"Guys, there's something wrong." I stated before ripped my arm from Marcus and putting my fingers on my forehead. What was that?

"What?" Bree asked as she sped over to me, Chase following soon after. The scene began to play over and over again in my head. I couldn't keep my eyes open before I fell to the ground, holding my head in my hands. "Adam!" Bree yelled as she dove to the ground and rested her hands around my shoulders. I could feel the others kneeling down next to me as I blacked out slightly. I could still hear them, but the scene began to expand. I couldn't make out the figures, or the faces before everything became clear.

The young boy, three years old, began to walk along with his father in the adoption center hallway. The two walked along until the boy looked up to his father. Donald Davenport smiled back down to his son as he squeezed his hand and led him into the back. He stopped in front of a large window before another man joined Donald's side. Douglas Davenport stood next to the other half of Davenport Industries with a girl in his arms. She could have only been two by the looks of her face. The boy smiled as he tried to reach up and get the girls attention. But to no avail, she was fast asleep. The boy watched intently as he waited for someone to tell them what they were doing there.

"Which one?" Douglas whispered as he leaned in closer to Donald. "We need one to have the third and most important chip. These two will start to learning how to use their abilities soon enough." Douglas continued as he patted the girl on the back lightly, keeping her asleep on his shoulder. Her small arms wrapped around the man's neck while her brown hair fanned out around her face.

"What do you mean?" Donald asked. The boy looked from his father and over to his uncle before he could see the shock and fear.

"I mean, we have to train them to take over Davenport Industries. The sooner the better, right Donny?" Douglas teased as he punched Donald playfully on the shoulder. Donald frowned, not believing that this was what his brother meant.

"Right. Well, why don't you try and see which one gets along the best with Adam and Bree? I have to take this." Donald suggested before dropping his son's hand and slipping his phone up and out of his pocket. The small boy frowned as his father waved slightly to him and walked back down the hallway. Douglas groaned in annoyance before leaning down to the ground and waking up Bree. He pulled her to her feet before her eyes opened.

"Daddy..." Bree left off as she rubbed her eyes. The boy smiled before wrapping his arms around who could only feel like a sister to him. Bree laughed happily before letting her cousin pull her into a hug.

"Adam." She groaned happily. Douglas' frown turned slowly into a smile as he watched the two.

"Are you two ready to find your brother?" Douglas whispered, hoping the two would go along with it. The two smiled happily and nodded. "Good, because we need a third. Two bionics just doesn't sound right." Douglas stood up straight and held out his hands to the two before pulling them into the adoption center.

"Why hello there. What can we do to help you?" The attendant asked as she glided over to Douglas, Bree, and Adam. She smiled and kneeled down before the two. "Did you find them outside? If so, they tend to get away-"

"Oh no. The girl is my daughter and the boy is my brother's. I was hoping to adopt a boy today, and we thought that he needed to get along with these two pretty well, so he let me bring them." Douglas explained. The woman smiled happily before leading them over to a small room where four boys sat and played.

"These four have been ready for adoption for about six months now. Why don't we let these two play with them for a bit before you decided which one to bring into your family?" The woman suggested before grabbing onto Douglas' arm and puling him out of the room. Outside of the room, held a window in which the two adults watched the children play. Adam took Bree's hand in his own, silently telling her that it would be okay. He looked over the supposed four boys, only seeing three at first glance. None looked particularly like they cared. The first boy was about four or five, sitting and teasing the others. Adam shook his head and moved his sights into the next. The second boy sat crying over a broken toy. Adam knew instantly that they boy there would never make it with him around. Douglas had given him something in which he was now able to break every one of Bree's toys. She never cried though, just sat in the corner and pouted for a bit. Adam shook his head as he skipped right past the third boy. He was much too tall and skinny to fit in with Adam and Bree.

"What about him?" Bree whispered as she pointed into the far right corner of the small room. There, in the corner, sat a boy about a year old. He held a piece of paper and a crayon as he drew out the room at hand. Adam looked down to see Bree was simply infatuated with the boy. He seemed to be different from the others, just like themselves. Adam nodded as he pulled Bree over to the boy. Bree smiled happily before plopping down next to him, tapping his shoulder in the process. Adam stood up straight as he watched them. The boy looked over to Bree, simply shell shocked at the fact that someone had joined him in the corner.

"I'm Bree, and that's Adam." Bree started happily. The boy smiled as he looked into Bree's eyes. Bree's smile grew as the stare between the two drew on. Adam shook his head before resting on his knees in front of the two.

"What's your name?" Adam tried. The boy glanced down to the ground before looking back up to Adam.

"Chase. My brothers don't like me." He mumbled as he pointed to the other boys in the room. Chase seemed to be the youngest of the four as Adam glanced back at the other three.

"We like you. Come live with us?" Bree added, taking Chase's hand into her own. Chase's smile grew as he looked from Bree to Adam expectantly. He nodded, feeling already a lot better.

"Okay." He whispered. Bree laughed and pulled him up, trying to get him to walk. The boy smiled and stood up, a little wobbly as he did so. Adam raced to his side and picked him up into his arms before Bree could protest.

"Adam!" She whined as she trailed after the two. Adam laughed as he walked over to the door, waiting for it to open. The door popped open to reveal Douglas with a bright smile.

"I think we've found your new brother."

"Adam." Bree whimpered as the tears slid down her face. I could feel a smirk taking over my face as my eyes slid open.

"You and Chase have been in love since the start." I teased as I sat up. Bree breathed a sigh of relief as she threw her arms around me. Chase frowned as he patted my back.

"What do you mean?" Chase wondered.

"I can remember way back to when we adopted you." I explained. I had no clue why that happened. I could have sworn we were related and Bree and Chase just had this weird little thing going on.

"How did you do that? I read somewhere in Mr. Davenport's computer that he and Douglas blocked the memories out from our childhood before the lab from our chips. That's where our memories were stored before he deleted them." Chase rambled. I rolled my eyes. Why did he have to be so complicated?

"Well looks like I discovered my new ability. I have super memory!" I teased as Marcus pulled me up off the ground. Bree frowned as she latched onto Chase and stood up as well. Chase looked to Marcus, almost asking him what I was trying to convey. Marcus nodded simply.

"That is possible. I have a super memory type ability. Douglas never have it an official term." Marcus explained. I always knew he'd have my back.

"Thanks buddy!" I cheered as I patted his shoulder. He laughed and nodded.

"So what? Adam gets two new abilities within the past couple of months, Chase gets a new one every other day, and here I am, just my vocal manipulation." Bree ranted angrily. Chase rubbed her back as he tried to calm her down. Marcus sighed and took a step forward before holding his hand just above Bree's neck.

"May I?" He asked, sounding annoyed with Bree's complaints. She nodded warily before Marcus placed his hand above her chip. Her eyes closed as Marcus did something to her. Chase gripped Bree's hand tightly as he waited for her to open her eyes.

"What are you doing?" Chase hissed, sounding as though Spike was about to pop up. I smiled at the thought. Finally, Spike would be after someone else for a change.

"There. Now, try out your new ability." Marcus announced as he stepped back to my side. Bree's eyes flew open as she looked from me to Chase worriedly.

"What is it?" Bree questioned as she clasped her other hand around her and Chase's connected hands. Marcus laughed and rolled his eyes.

"Just imagine that your invisible." Marcus stated simply. Bree nodded and closed her eyes, concentrating on what Marcus had told her before she and Chase both disappeared.

"Whoa, what was that?" I asked as I slapped Marcus lightly on his shoulder. Marcus rolled his eyes.

"She had invisibility on her chip. I thought that may come in handy tomorrow." Marcus said before Bree and Chase appeared once again, Chase giving Bree some type of weird grin I had seen him do about a thousand times before.

"That was awesome!" He cheered as he pulled Bree into a hug. She laughed and leaned her head against his chest as they held each other. God, those two might be too in love.

"Okay, break it up. We need to plan for tomorrow." Marcus ordered. Bree nodded as she pulled away from Chase, still holding him tightly.

"Well, what did you two have planned for tomorrow, anyhow?" Chase started. Marcus' eyes lit up at the mention.

"Douglas wanted to go to a One Direction concert. I was going to to with him just so... He complains all the time if I don't do things with him." Marcus reaffirmed.

"No way! Mr. Davenport wanted to go to that." I remembered. Wow, all that from one hidden ability. I can remember everything now, probably better than Chase can.

"Those two are almost too much alike." Bree scoffed. Chase laughed lightly and nodded.

"So? Do you guys know what this means?" Marcus asked hopefully. I shook my head as Bree and Chase began to make knowing looks each other's way. "We will all meet up at the concert. Douglas will never see it coming." I smiled as the information finally pieced together in my head. Now it all makes sense.

"So we meet up with you two backstage, drag uncle Dougy off somewhere and murder him?" Bree teased. I laughed and high fived my sister before Marcus held up his hand, motioning for us to stop.

"We're not going to murder him, we're simply going to give him what he deserves." Marcus defended. Chase nodded along.

"Yeah, everyone already thinks he's dead anyway."
