11. Preventing The Worst

━━━━━━━━━

(POV) Bree

"So you've been rebuilding yourself since we fought at Douglas' lab?" I wondered aloud as he led me into the apartment building. He nodded slowly, looking upset at my mention. "I'm sorry." I mumbled as we walked along the hallways and over to the stairs. He shook his head.

"It's okay, Bree. You had a question, and now you have an answer." Marcus replied before grabbing onto my hand. I smiled slightly as he pulled me gently up the stairs.

"So, Chase and I are together." I started, trying to prevent the silence that was attempting to overtake us. He laughed as he dropped my hand. "Oh I didn't mean it like-"

"I know what you meant. I was kidding too, Bree. But I do hope that little nerd boy makes you happy. He's a hell of a guitar player if I do say so myself." Marcus rambled. I felt myself laugh as he spoke of Chase. I could tell he respected him in a weird way, but hated him wholeheartedly in another.

"He does make me happy, and he always will." I mumbled as we stopped just outside of Marcus' door. He smiled and leaned back against the wall as we stared back at each other, almost trying to remember the last good talk we had had.

"This is nice." Marcus breathed. I nodded, instantly agreeing with him. I had missed this, having a friend outside of the family... Even though he was technical family.

I jumped into Marcus' side as I watched the door fly open, revealing my boyfriend stomping out into the hallway. He stopped the second he saw Marcus and I. I pulled away, scared at what Chase would do next. His mouth dropped while his eyes widened in disgust at the boy next to me. I knew Chase would be the hardest to convince of Marcus' change of heart. But I also knew that it would take more time than we had. Maybe this, right here and now, would be enough to swing him over to my side of thought.

"Bree." He whispered lowly. I could sense the one thing happening that I had hoped I wouldn't. Chase closed his eyes as he tried to hold Spike back. I knew he would want to deal with Marcus as he was himself, not his evil alter ego. I had never cared much for Spike anyhow, but if I had to, I knew exactly how to be rid of him. I had to play the innocent card. Chase would never see it my way, otherwise.

"Chase, I can explain." I whispered softly, trying not to sound as forceful as I had wanted to. I walked calmly over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder in attempt to stop this, what I knew was coming.

"No." He muttered under his breathe before pushing past me, shoving my hand to the side in the process. Chase walked over to Marcus with ease, never once breaking eye contact with my supposed android brother. Marcus took a slight step back, holding up his hands in defense as he did so. I crossed my arms over my chest as I watched the scene play out before me. I hated to admit it, but Marcus was a robot. He could take Chase any day. Chase shook his head at Marcus' tries, pleads almost. I leaned in a bit, seeing a hopefulness in Marcus' eyes that could even melt Chase to the point of no return.

"Chase, listen to your girlfriend-" Marcus started, only to be cut off by Chase raising his fist to punch Marcus in the face.

"Uh!" Chase groaned as he pulled his hand back, the blood soon making it's way out of the cuts in his knuckles. I closed my eyes as my hands flew to cover them. I didn't want to see this happen. Marcus fell backwards into the wall at the left of us, holding himself up just barely. I wanted to rush over to help him, but I knew who would need the most help and support after all this was over. Marcus would be fine, Chase on the other hand, would be lying on the floor in pain.

Chase took a large step forward before stopping just in front of Marcus again, and punching him once more in the stomach. Marcus curled into himself in pain before he kicked Chase in the shin as he fell to the floor. Chase groaned quietly before falling down to the floor on his back. My heart dropped out of my chest as I watched Marcus crawl over effortlessly to my boyfriend before to punch him in his jaw, pushing his face into the ground. I lost it in that second.

"Chase!" I cried as I ran to his side. Chase made a disgusted face once more as he clicked his tongue, he must be bleeding. He closed his eyes as I let my hand rest on his cheek, trying to calm him just as he was trying to calm himself. I flinched as I felt a wind coming by me, it wasn't as fast as me, but it was enough to make me turn. I shook my head in annoyance as I watched Adam fly over to jump on top of his cousin.

"Don't you hurt my brother!" Adam yelled as he pinned Marcus to the ground before punching him in the face, as well. Chase smiled at the sight before I brought him back to reality.

"Chase, you need to stop them!" I whispered harshly as I slapped him in the shoulder. He couldn't be taking pleasure in this. Marcus had changed.

"Why?" He asked, sounding so reluctant to even take into consideration what I was saying. I groaned and threw my head back before answering. He could be so stubborn sometimes. He was the smartest man in the world, he didn't need me to explain this to him.

"Marcus is trying to help us." I hissed before standing up and speeding over to the two, pushing Adam off of Marcus in the process. Adam cried out as his back hit the floor. Marcus let his head fall back onto the ground softly in exhaustion. I breathed out as I stood in between Marcus and Adam before looking over to see just how confused Chase was.

"What do you mean he's helping us?" Chase asked, sounding worried and interested at the same time.

"Douglas, is free. Marcus helped him escape, but before you go all, 'determined to leave him behind', we need him. He knows how to get rid of Douglas for good." I explained quickly, worried that Chase would jump up and finish Marcus for good after he had heard who really set Douglas free. Marcus smiled up at me as I knelt down next to him. He needed me right now. I was the only one who could plead his case. He sighed and turned her slightly to face Chase.

"I'm sorry about what I did. I hurt you all, in ways that I can never take back. But please, if you don't give me a second chance, we could all be dead by the end of the week, including Leo, his mom, and Donald Davenport." Marcus added, a hopefulness evident in his voice. Chase closed his eyes, I could see the wheels turning in his head as he thought this all through.

"What do you know? Only then will I even consider giving you a second chance." Chase snapped, but sounding as though he would listen. I felt myself breathe a sigh of relief at that. He was at least going to try and understand why I had gone through with this.

"Could we go somewhere else so I can explain myself. I've locked Douglas in his room but he may be free, or at least is able to hear us." Marcus reasoned, sounding fearful at his, and our, creator's abilities. I nodded before pulling Marcus up to his feet. I sighed as I used my speed to run back over to Chase, he needed me. I smiled as I held out m hand to him. He shook his head and used his karate skills to jump up on his own. I rolled my eyes before I tried to walk away. He snatched my hand and held it tightly in his, a gesture that was both reassuring and overprotective. I knew after what I had personally been through with Marcus, and Chase being the only person who really knew about it, he would be stepping in between him and I quite a bit. But I trusted Marcus, he had told me everything and had his life on the line for us. The least Chase could do, was lend an ear his way. He did have ultra sensitive bionic hearing.

"Come on." Chase mumbled before pulling me forward. Marcus nodded to me before grabbing onto Adam's arm.

"Hey! Let me-" Adam tried before we each sped off towards the woods once more. We stopped by the cliff, Marcus and I sitting down instantly while Adam and Chase glanced around a little more. Chase sighed before sitting down next to me, taking my hand once more, gently this time. Adam smiled happily before sitting down at my side as well, leaving Marcus to sit in his own just across from us.

"Go on, creep. Tell us your side of the story before I push you off this cliff." Chase started with a sly smile. I knew he would have a plan to kill Marcus in the end. I rolled my eyes and shove him slightly.

"Give it up, Chase." I muttered, trying to tell him to stop. Marcus didn't need this.

"Okay, before I start a bigger fight between the new, and previously happy couple, I will explain." Marcus began, hoping my brother and boyfriend would listen in. "I woke up in that destroyed lab beneath piles and piles of ceiling. When I finally got out, I saw what I really was, and I was even scared of myself. Douglas never told me I was an android. It changed even more. Not only did he leave me behind, but he failed to tell me what I really was."

"So? You're a robot-"

"Android." I interrupted. Chase shook his head, he was clearly mad at me. I motioned for Marcus to continue.

"Yes, I am an android. But I had thought myself to he human for fifteen and a half years, Chase. Wouldn't you be upset?" Marcus countered, hoping he had hit Chase harder than any of us had thought.

"Fine! Yes, I would be upset." Chase yelled, releasing my hand from his within that second.

"So, to get revenge for all of this stuff that he got me into, I decided to play the ultimate revenge. I would help him get out, but I would kill him myself. I needed to know a few things, so that's why he's still here now. He's just information to me, and now, to you three. But he is still a danger to your family. And by family, I mean you three, and the ones that you three stupidly left behind." Marcus went on. "I thought you three understood just how badly he wants to eliminate Leo and Davenport."

"We did, but what we also knew, was he was trapped in a gigantic ice block under twenty four/seven watch." Chase replied snidely.

"I know what I did was wrong. I should have left him there. But he wasn't dead, guys. He was just frozen. He could get out at any time, and come for you guys. I did you a favor-"

"Did you? Now we have to fight him, again!" Chase yelled.

"But you won't have to fight me this time. You have me on your side... If you're willing to give me what Bree has promised." Marcus bargained. I felt a smile play out on my face at the mention of our plan. Chase's face scrunched together as he looked to me.

"What did you tell him? We can't give him more abilities-"

"It's not that! I told him Mr. Davenport can at least try and get him a real body, so he can be human. Just like us." I yelled before standing up, I couldn't deal with this. "Chase, you need to calm down. I can't keep fighting you on this! I trust him, he told me how much he regrets all of this! But Douglas practically programmed him to hate us! And look at him now! He's destroyed, we're his only hope! And he's ours." I shook my head as I stood at the center of the three before me. Adam nodded as he stood up. He hadn't said anything, so I had assumed he was on Chase's side

"I believe you. I'm sorry for all of this, Marcus." Adam agreed as he helped Marcus up. The two did a bro hug before the three of us turned to Chase. He kept his sights set low on the ground, not even looking up as he sensed me looking to him. I sighed as I walked over to him. I knew even if I whispered, Marcus would still hear me, but I couldn't have cared less.

"Chase, I'm sorry I yelled. But you can be-"

"Stubborn, I know. I've been living with that my whole life. But I can't lose you, and if teaming up with that, is what it takes, then I'm in." Chase said seriously before looking up to me with a genuine smile. I sighed in relief before thrown my arms around him. I hated fighting with him. I always have. But now we would be able to make it through all of this. Together.

"So, are we friends? Allies? People who talk behind everyone's back?" Marcus asked teasingly, mocking himself from earlier. I laughed as I pulled away from Chase. This time, him letting me help him up before we walked over to Marcus and Adam.

"We are." Chase replied with a smile before holding out his hand. I smiled as I placed my hand above his, Adam following.

"So this is us? The only four bionics in the world finally teaming up?" Marcus asked as he placed his hand above all of ours. I laughed and nodded.

"What else would be be?" I teased as Chase finally cracked a smile Marcus' way.

"Yep, and I hope we can get the band back together when we get back." Chase said with a smile. Marcus nodded excitedly.

"I would love that... If Leo forgives me." He said, his face slowly falling. Adam patted his cousin on the shoulder.

"Oh he will."
