10. Getting What He Deserved

(POV) Chase

I flipped over, attempting to stay asleep before the light of the sun was shinning through my eyelids. I huffed as I opened my eyes to see the room was lit up by the sun as well. I rolled over again, a pang hitting my chest as I noticed Bree wasn't there any longer. Where could she be? She had gotten us ample amounts of food, so she couldn't be at the store. But she is the fastest person in the world. She could be anywhere, and we had turned off our GPS signals. There was no chance of me finding her. I threw the blanket off myself and got up, looking around carefully, wishing she would pop up into my vision. I rolled my eyes at myself. I shouldn't worry so much. We got away before the FBI was able to find us. Mr. Davenport, Leo, and Tasha would all be safe now, including us.

"Chase?" Adam called quietly as he walked out into the hallway, rubbing his eyes before he ran into he left wall. "Owe! Where did that wall come from?" He hissed as he switched his attention to his elbow. I shook my head at my brother... Well really my adoptive brother. I was perfectly fine with the fact that Bree and I weren't related, or the fact that Bree and Adam were as well. But knowing that Adam and I had no connections whatsoever, got to me. I had always felt like I needed an older brother to look up to, no matter how stupid Adam is. I knew how strong he could be in situations like this. In any situation really. After all, we had been through together, it changed me.

"Are you okay?" I asked, a hint of laughter in my voice as I tried to pull my attention away from my own thought. Adam had always been good at distracting me. Adam shook his head as he let it hang low on his way out to the living room. He shoved the blanket that Bree had had last night to the side before taking a seat.

"No, it hurts." Adam whined. I laughed playfully as I patted him on the shoulder.

"It shouldn't hurt for long. You only hit it on the wall, it's not like you broke-"

"Not my arm, Chase. I miss home. We shouldn't have given up that easily." Adam interrupted, a seriousness taking over his voice that I had never heard before. I frowned as I looked to him, I could see the hurt written all over his face. He had been locked away in that back room all night. It had slipped my mind after the happiness of Bree and I finally proclaiming our love for each other.

"Adam, I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do." I defended. I knew he thought this was all my fault; That we had left them behind under my control. I know I was mission leader, but this was nowhere near my master plan. The only plan in affect, was survival. That's all we had to worry about now.

"Don't be sorry, not about that anyway. I know we did what we had to do, and I'm grateful that we found this place. But what I'm worried about, is us. What's going to happen to the three of us anyway? I know you and Bree will probably leave to live your lives together and whatnot-"

"Why would Bree and I live together?" I asked, the worry seeping through my voice as I asked the question I had been hoping I would never have to. I knew Adam could be smart whenever he felt like it, which wasn't a lot of the time. So him knowing about Bree and I, wasn't exactly out of his range. He shrugged as he thought through his words, which again, was a rarity.

"I know how you two feel about each other. But with us leaving to start our own lives, is scary. I always thought that I would have Mr. Davenport to help us get going, or that I would never leave at all. I just, don't want to be alone, I guess. I left everything I care about except you two behind in mission creek." Adam explained as his face fell flat. I knew he cared about the other half of our family. I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss them just as much as he did. But this couldn't be breaking him up that much. There had to he something more to the story.

"Adam? Is there someone else you left behind other than Tasha, Leo, and Mr. Davenport?" I asked, not wanting to cross any lines. Adam and I had never been in this type of situation before. Unless you're counting our short infatuation with Danielle. Just telling him about Bree and I was making me feel a bit uneasy, and it wasn't just because we were raised as brother and sister. It was more because he had always teased me about never getting a girlfriend, and now I had one.

"I... I know that I always hated her, or at least seemed like it. But she was really the only girl that payed me any attention, other than Danielle. I liked her, Chase. I liked her a lot." Adam mumbled along before looking up at me. I sighed as I ran through our history with the girls. Who did Adam hate before, that he was so in love with now?

"Who exactly is this girl?" I tried once more. Sometimes you had to be repetitive with Adam. Most of the things I said either didn't get through to him, or were left without answers. Adam closed his eyes as he let the picture of her play in his mind.

"I love Caitlyn, Chase. I'm in love with her. And I never got a chance to tell her. Let alone let her know what she was getting into when she was chasing after me." Adam replied. I felt my own face fall at the mention of her. Adam looked broken before me. He really did love her. I had missed this completely. Looking back now, I had always thought that he had looked at her out of hatred, keeping an eye on your enemies. But now, I see that it was much more than that.

"Adam, we can probably get Bree to take us back so you can say-"

"Goodbye? No! I don't want to give up before I've even tried! I will wait until this all dies down, and then tell her how I feel. Whether or not she's back together with that Rodney kid. What kind of name is that, anyway?" Adam yelled as he flew to his feet in anger. He breathed in and out as he began to pace back and forth the small living room area. I sat back, not wanting to be in his way. I had learned that the hard way in itself, and I wasn't about to be retaught that lesson.

"Adam, we will get back home. I think. But if we don't, we will find Caitlyn, and let her know how you feel. She probably feels the same way about you. She'll join us. I know she will." I reasoned. I knew this would be a lot for Adam to take in. I also knew how impossible all of this sounded. But if we're adding up the facts, we were living in the basement, not aloud outside just a year and a half ago. Anything, and everything, could happen if we wanted it to... Even the things we didn't want could happen, as well.

"Okay, if that's what you were able to come up with, then I trust it. I know I don't always act like it, but you are the smartest guy in the world, Chase. And you're the best little brother anyone could ask for. Even if we're not related." Adam said with a smile before walking back to his room. I felt a smile take over my face as he left. This may have been for the best. Situations such as this one bring out both the best, and the worst in people. And I was happy to say that Adam and I were finally admitting to appreciating each other. He always threw me around back home, both mentally and physically. But now, I was able to be his equal.

I jumped as I heard a laugh out in the hallway. That was Bree. I raced over as quietly as possible until my ear was pressed against the door. I bit into my lip as hard as possible to keep from not yelling at myself. I had ultra sensitive bionic hearing, genius. Oh wait, I had that too. I was too smart for my own good. I rolled my eyes at myself before pulling away from the door and peaking out the pep hole that sat about two thirds up from the floor. My eyes scanned the area for my girl, only to see the empty hallway was still intact. I glanced behind me as I heard Adam walking towards me once more.

"Is she out there?" He whispered, seeing as I was trying to he quiet myself. I nodded vigorously, worrying at just who she was out there with. "Okay." Adam whispered loudly before trailing back to his room.

I sighed as I set my hand on the door handle, ready to bust this perp that had my Bree laughing like an idiot. I pulled the door open with a vengeance before stalking through and out into the hallway. What I saw before me, stopped me dead in my tracks. I felt my mouth drop as my eyes widened in disgust at who she was talking with. He was dead. He tried to rape her before that. He tried to take her from me. He hates me. He, was Marcus.

"Bree." I whispered lowly, feeling as though Spike was trying to push through. I closed my eyes as I tried to hold him back. I could feel myself slipping further and further away from reality. Spike could take me over so easily when he wanted to.

"Chase, I can explain." Bree whispered softly as she walked over to me. I needed no explanation, though. He was here with her. He was an android. He was designed for evil, and I wasn't about to except him back as easily as she had.

"No." I muttered under my breathe before pushing past Bree and walking up to the vial person that was Marcus Davenport. He took a slight step back, holding up his hands in defense as he did so, willing me to stop before I hurt the both of us. I shook my head. I was going to give him what he deserved this time. I felt my anger rise inside of me as he looked down at me with hopeful eyes. That was it.

"Chase, listen to your girlfriend-" he started, only to be cut off by my fist colliding with his face.

"Uh!" I groaned as I pulled my hand back, the blood soon making its way out of the cuts in my knuckles. Marcus fell backwards into the wall at the left of me, holding himself up just barely. I smirked at the sight. I had never seen him so weak. His metal insides showing through as his face became more mangled by the second.

I took a large step forward before punching him once more in the stomach, forcing him to circle into himself in pain. He kicked me in the shin as he fell to the floor. The kick just being enough to pull me down with him. He crawled over effortlessly before punching me in the right side of my jaw, shoving my face further into the ground.

"Chase!" Bree cried as she ran to my side. I could taste the metallic substance as it rushed into my mouth. I closed eyes, trying to stay calm and keep Spike in. Just then, I heard a large crash next to me.

"Don't you dare hurt my brother!" Adam yelled as he pinned Marcus to the ground before punching him in the face as well. I smiled slightly, Adam would always have my back.

"Chase, you need to stop them!" Bree whispered harshly as she slapped my shoulder.

"Why?" I asked, a double meaning behind my words. Partly because of her slapping me, and a more important part being the fact that she wanted me to stop my brother from finally cutting the red wire inside that creep of a machine. Bree groaned and threw her head back before answering.

"Marcus is trying to help us." Bree hissed before standing up herself and speeding over, pushing Adam off of Marcus in the process. Adam cried out as his back hit the floor. Marcus let his head fall back onto the ground softly in exhaustion. I frowned as my eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

"What do you mean he's helping us?" I asked, growing more wary of the problems at hand. I had thought we were free of everything.

"Douglas, is free. Marcus helped him escape, but before you go all, determined to leave him behind, we need him. He knows how to get rid of Douglas for good." Bree explained quickly, a worried tone to her voice as she knelt down next to the machine himself. He smiled up at Bree before turning his attention to me.

"I'm sorry about what I did. I hurt you all in ways that I can never take back. But please, if you don't give me a second chance, we could all be dead by the end of the week, including Leo, his mom, and Donald Davenport." Marcus added, a hopefulness evident in his voice. I let my eyes close as I thought this through. If Bree trusted him, I felt like I would be expected to.

"What do you know? Only then will I even consider giving you a second chance."
