Chapter 7: Handsome is delicate

Leo's POV

Big D finally convinced me to climb up the shaft to bump the emergency switch. And by convinced I mean that he kept sobbing, which gave me a big enough migraine to get the gumption to climb up there. I kept trying to reach it as Big D stared below.

"Have you got it yet Leo?" He called up into the shaft. I sighed rolling my eyes.

"If I got it wouldn't we be, oh I don't know, moving!" I yelled back in nervous sarcasm. I tried to reach it again, but I ended up short. Literally. I'm vertically challenged. I could hear Big D pacing back and forth. He sighed as he continued on with his unhelpful commentary.

"You know, Einstein once said trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results-" I interrupted him scoffing at his accusation.

"Meant I'm crazy? What are you getting at? You're the one that made me climb up here in the first place! And what else am I supposed to do? I just can't reach... Wait! I got it!" I cheered as I finally hit the button and we slowly started to move back up into the house. I hastily jumped back into the elevator before we but the ground floor. He laughed at me as I stumbled and regained my stance before the doors opened to reveal Mom standing on the other side.

"Oh my gosh! Are you guys okay?" Mom asked worriedly as she wrapped her arms around me. Constricting my lungs. When she loosened her grip on me, Big D began to explain.

"Yeah we're fine. Douglas blew up the lab and we got stuck in the elevator." Mom's eyes widened as she heard Douglas' name.

"I thought Douglas was frozen!" She wondered with the anger evident in her voice. I looked over at Big D as he shook his head.

"He's got another bionic helping him. I should have never created that technology in the first place!" He yelled as he made his way over to the living room. We followed as we all sat down on the couch.

"No. If you two wouldn't have made bionics, then there would be no Adam, Bree, or Chase. You might not have even met us." I stated. He nodded. It was true though, if he didn't create bionics he wouldn't have filled his scientific needs. With his life long dream fulfilled he had room to find a fine lady to share his success with. Online dating would've been my last resort if I were him, but who am I to control his love life?

"You're right Leo. Speaking of which, we have to find them. Douglas is after them too. We just have to figure out where they went... And we need a place to stay." He replied as we all remembered that we could no longer stay at the casa de Big D.

"We can stay at my mothers." Mom cheered happily as she jumped up and made her way upstairs.

"I don't think-" Big D began, but I cut him off quickly. If you get in her way, you could lose a limb. He's lucky all she did was ignore him.

"Let her go. We probably won't even be there the majority of the time anyway." She began to gather our things from upstairs. He pouted. Hey I didn't even know why he was freaking out. I didn't mind talking a little trip over the river, and through the woods. I hadn't seen my Grammy in a while. I had to see her sometime, so might as well be now.

"Fine. But if Rose starts yelling at me about... I don't know, my hair, we are leaving." He said simply. I smirked as I thought of all the endless possibilities. He rolled his eyes at me as he glanced over to see Mom coming down the stairs with two large suitcases in her hands.

"Tasha, we're homeless. Do you really need that many bags?" He asked. She stopped dead in her tracks.

"These are yours." She replied simply. He nodded cockily, and responded.

"Do you have my cashmere socks?" I sighed at his tiny rich man problems, and picked up the bags before walking outside.

"Have you called your mom?" He asked almost to scared to hear the answer. Mom nodded.

"Yes. She'll be by in a couple minutes. Since you don't really want to stick around, why don't you go off to one of your, techy places, to find the kids. I'm really worried about them. That, and you need to get the helicopter off the roof before the bank takes it." She whispered as they walked along behind me. He smiled and hugged his wifey before turning to me.

"You'll be okay with your mom for a little bit while Leo and I look for them?" He asked hopefully as he patted me on the shoulder. He knew that I was probably going to be the one to take over the company. Chase could've claimed it years ago, if he hadn't gotten his mind set on creating "Chaslantis", his cute little underwater civilization. For such a tiny man, he had big innovations. Wow I'm already writing eulogies. I got to get my mind set on finding them. Mom nodded before Big D and I ran back over to the house. He guided me onto the roof where the helicopter waited. I smiled at the wonderful piece of machinery as we got closer. This helicopter had my name written all over it. Even though I've used it like every weekend it still dazzled me to just look in its glory.

"I am truly amazing aren't I? I have a secret helicopter that even the bank doesn't know about." He admitted before he heard me snickering quietly in the background.

"Actually, it's not so secret. I use it on weekends." I mumbled. I could see his eyes grow to saucers at the realization. I was going to pay for this later.

"Leo! Why would you- you know what, lets just go find Adam, Bree, and Chase." He replied blankly as we stepped onto the helicopter. As we rose into the air, I could see Grandma pulling into the driveway. He cringed as she looked up to see the helicopter. It's like we could hear her already-

That technology just ain't good. You know back in my day-

Oh my god.

"Big D?" I asked, in wonderment. He nodded and turned to me.

"Yeah, Leo?" He responded.

"How are we going to find them if they have their GPS signals off? I mean, they could be anywhere by now. With Bree's speed and Chase's smarts... Adam would of course just be along for the ride, but you get my point." I ranted. He knew I was right, they could be anywhere by now. I looked over to see Big D's facility x coming into view. I feel like I'm going to not going to like it here. This place has shifty written all over it.

"Okay, Leo. Prepare for the landing." He warned as he began to pull onto the landing area. Most of the snow had melted given the fact that it was almost summer but I knew it would still be cold as we got outside. Great. I hate the cold.

"This way." He motioned towards the door on the nearby side of the building. I followed him inside the building to see it wasn't as shifty as I thought. He beamed at the work he'd done of course probably gloating to himself.

"Donald!" Dr. Evans exclaimed as he turned the corner to see we were here. He smiled and brought him into a hug. So this is the Dr. Evans I've heard barley about. His hair scared me.

"Hey. How's it been up here?" Big D asked, trying to make conversation. He pointed over to the corner where I could possibly look for Adam, Bree, and Chase on the computer. I nodded catching his drift and headed over without a second thought. Dr. Evans shrugged.

"Cold. It's been pretty lonely since Adam, Bree, and Chase were here. Speaking of them, where are they?" Dr. Evans asked excitedly. I noticed the smile fall from his face at the mention of his three missing kids. Don't forget my best and only friends.

"They ran away because their bionics were exposed to their principle. She had said she might call the authorities so they ran. They didn't want me getting in trouble for this... Or for them to be captured." He explained grimly. He looked over to see Me shaking my head. He sighed at me as we both realized there was really nothing we could do but wait.

"Nothing?" He asked hopefully. I didn't want to answer.

"No, like I said before, they're gone. But, we can keep watch until they do turn their signals back on. Until then..." I left off as I motioned around the room. He frowned in confusion at me.

"What Leo?" He asked, genuinely confused. I sighed and walked over to me. He was smart he could figure out what I was saying. It's time to shine baby.

"How else are we going to find three bionic teens without another, bionic teen, to go looking for them?" I finished with a hopeful smile. He shook his head quickly in worry.

"Leo, there is absolutely no way I am making you bionic." He shot down my idea. Are you kidding me? Even when he at his lowest he's still being stubborn. I'm going to need to work for what I want.

"Oh come on, Big D! You need someone that is going to find them fast. Douglas had a bionic, why not have a bionic on your side too?" I bargained. My argument was flawless. He couldn't shoot me down.

"I see what your getting at, Leo. But, I can't do that. There would be five bionics, the authorities would catch on." He said simply. He walked away to the kitchen to make some hot chocolate. I know I was a mission specialist, but I want something more. To protect them all from Douglas. He probably had no idea where they were though, but all I could think of was using my bionics to get to them first. He couldn't have them. Good always wins... Right? I looked towards Big D when I heard his phone ring. He pulled it out of his pocket to see who was calling.

"Hi honey." I answered. It was mom. I could already tell. Unless he was having a twisted affair, but then again who else would date that? My bet is either a gold digger, or a secret agent. But I don't think he would do something like that to my mom. He knew it would be too risky to introduce another person in our lives. Secondly he just isn't the two woman type.

He responded to her.

"No, they turned off their GPS signals. There's no way to find them. By the way, what did you tell Rose about all of this?" He asked worriedly. Yup it was her. Hopefully she didn't spill the beans about them already.

He nodded along as she continued.

"Good, are you doing okay there? Leo and I can come back-"

I could hear her yelling at him, as he smiled at her.

"I promise. Leo and I are looking for them as we speak. We'll call you if we find anything and if we don't, you know what, we'll call you tonight anyway. I love you." He said. Awe. He was so lovey with her. It was kind of grossing me out though. I got an idea. Maybe a helpful hint will help direct him towards the bionic path. If you know what I mean. I ran to draw up a fly sign.

He smiled again, and put his phone back into his pocket. He stared down at my hot chocolate for a second before turning to see my awesome sign. I heard him sigh in annoyance. Hey! persistence is the key in getting what you want.

"Leo, what are you doing?" He asked with annoyance apparent in his voice I could see him, but I could already imagine his countenance. The sign says:

Handsome is delicate

So Bionics are Needed to Protect it

Argument time.

"Come on Big D! At least give me a chance! I'm L Do!" replied from behind the sign. I began dancing with my nickname to add some of that Leo Dooley pizaz.

"Leo, as much as I'm sure you want this, we can't. One, I don't want to. Two, we don't have time. And three, it is extremely dangerous." He listed as we made our way back to the main room of the facility. I sighed and set the poster to sit up where He could still see it, before sitting down next to him.

"Fine, but I have a counter argument to go against yours. Just to let you know, it will pale in comparison to mine." I hinted as he rolled his eyes at me out-witting him, and sat back.

"Go ahead." He mumbled. I nodded in excitement.

"First, you should want to. I'm your mission specialist and how can I be a specialist without ever going on a mission? Second, we have tons of time. Adam, Bree, and Chase obviously aren't going to turn on their GPS signals any time soon. And third, you're such a brilliant inventor, how could something you make be dangerous?" I pointed out trying to butter him up.

"Okay, Leo. We'll give you a test run. I have a simulator that will let us see how you can handle bionics. If you can handle it, then I will give you an ability of your choice." He explained. I jumped up with excitement.

"Wait! I get a not so hidden ability too! I of course, don't want it to be hidden because that would just be stupid." I replied sternly. He nodded and pointed ahead at the simulator that held my future. The era if Leo starts NOW!!
