Chapter 3: The Pass of Caradhras

Aerlinniel POV

We are all standing at the gates of Imladris about to leave. I give Bilbo a big hug and Lord Elrond begins to speak.

"The Ringbearer is setting out on the quest of Mount Doom and you who travel with him, no oath nor bond is laid to go further than you will. Farewell. Hold to your purpose and may the blessings of elves, and men, and all free folk go with you."

"The Fellowship awaits the Ringbearer." Gandalf says.

"Mordor, Gandalf, is it left or right?" Frodo questions.

"Left." Gandalf answers him.

And with that, we leave Imladris.

"We must hold this course west of the Misty Mountains for forty days. If our luck holds the Gap of Rohan will still be open to us. And there are road turns east to Mordor." Gandalf tells us, we are resting before continuing on.

"Good, very good." Boromir praises Pippin. He is teaching Pippin and Merry how to fight with a sword.

"Move your feet." Aragorn adds.

"You look good Pippin." Merry compliments him.

"Thanks."

"If anyone was to ask for my opinion, which I note that they're not, I'd say that we were taking the long way round. Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin Balin would give us a royal welcome." Gimli suggests.

"No Gimli, I would not take the road through Moria unless I had no other choice." Gandalf declines, I can hear fear in his voice.

A few minutes later I hear Pippin shout in pain, "ARGH!"

"Sorry!" Boromir apologises to him.

"Get him!" Merry shouts.

"For the Shire!" Pippin yells. "Hold him, hold him down Merry!"

Boromir laughs. I wonder what they look like. Oh, how I wish I could see.

"Gentlemen, that's enough!" Aragorn tells them, but I hear him fall to the ground.

"You've got my arm! Ugh! You've got my arm!" Pippin stumbles.

"What is that?" Sam questions.

 "Nothing, it's just a whisp of cloud." Gimli tell him.

"It's moving fast.... against the wind." Boromir states.

"Crebain! From Dudland!" Legolas shouts.

 "Hide!" Aragorn warns us and I stand up, unsure of what to do.

 Boromir adds, "Hurry!"

 "Frodo! Take cover!" Aragorn shouts to Frodo.

Next thing I know, I hear Gandalf running towards me and then he pulls me down.

"Thank you." I whisper to him but he doesn't say anything back.

I hear a bunch of birds fly close and then fly off. Gandalf pulls my arm to let me know we can come out of hiding.

"Spies of Saruman. The passage south is being watched. We must take the Pass of Caradhras." Gandalf explains to us.

~~~
We are walking up the snowy slopes of the mountain. I hear Frodo fall and them Aragorn shout.
"Frodo!" Everything is silent for a moment and I start to wonder what is going on when Aragorn says, "Boromir."
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing." Boromir says, sounding like he is in a trance.
"Boromir!" Aragorn now shouts his name. "Give the Ring to Frodo."
So, Boromir somehow got the Ring. It must of fallen off when Frodo fell.
"As you wish! I care not." Boromir plays it off as if nothing just happened.
Everyone, except for Legolas and I, struggle around the side of the mountain, through deep snow, strong winds and heavy snowfall. I wonder what snow looks like.
I immediately stop myself. I have always wondered what things look like, but more so recently. I've just been this way for so long, I really want to be able to finally see. I am now starting to doubt if I ever will see.
All of the sudden, I hear a faint voice speaking, "Cuiva nwalca Carnirasse; nai yarvaxea rasselya! (Wake up cruel Redhorn! May your horn be bloodstained!)"
"There is a fell voice on the air." Legolas states.
"It's Saruman!" Gandalf tells us, having to shout over the wind.
I hear a loud crack overhead. What was that?
"He's trying to bring down the mountain! Gandalf! We must turn back!" Aragorn warns.
"No!" Gandalf refuses. "Losto Caradhras, sedho, hodo, nuitho i 'ruith! (Sleep, Caradhras, be still, lie still, hold your wrath!)"
"Cuiva nwalca Carnirasse; Nai yarvaxea rasselya; taltuva notto-carinnar! (Wake up cruel Redhorn! May your bloodstained horn fall upon enemy heads!)" The voice, that belongs to Saruman, shouts back.
Next thing I know, I am being pulled back and I feel heavy snow fall on top of me. After a few moments, I finally find my way out of the snow and take a deep breath.
I then hear Boromir yell, "We must get off the mountain! Make for the Gap of Rohan and take the west road to my city!"
"The Gap of Rohan takes us too close to Isengard!" Aragorn states.
"If we cannot pass over the mountain, let us go under it! Let us go through the Mines of Moria." Gimli again suggests.
"Let the Ringbearer decide." Gandalf says.
"We cannot stay here! This will be the death of the hobbits!" Boromir warns.
"Frodo?"
"We will go through the Mines." Frodo decides.
"So be it."
