Chapter One

From a dog's perspective, humans must've seemed to be either immortal or at least live extremely long lives.

Jennifer entertained the thought more as she stared at the dog running down the lane chasing her school bus.

She grinned at the stray dog and waved it goodbye as the signal lightened green from yellow and the bus picked up speed.

Her long hair was whipped back as the cold wind harshly tugged at it. Trying to undo her hair under the watchful eyes of her powerful hair tie.

No matter how fiercely the wind blows, a single strand of her will never fail to hold. It was tied together by her mom, Renelle.

Jennifer stared at the green blur of the trees and enjoyed the cold wind which now caressed her face. Letting her mind wander far away from the present as she reminisced about the scenes of her favourite cartoon.

The bus soon came to a halt as the familiar surroundings of her house struck her. She immediately got up paying no mind to the chorus of goodbyes thrown her way.

She couldn't wait to meet her comfy bed. All Jennifer wanted to do was sleep away her worries and peer pressures.

In a hurry, Jennifer kicked off her shoes and ran into her grandma's arms for a hug. Raina chucked at her dear Mango as she embraced her tightly.

"You've got yourself quite dirty. What happened? Got in a fight?" Raina arched an eyebrow at Jennifer, who nervously giggled at her.

Satisfied with the response, Raina pushed no further and changed the subject.

"How was school today, my pumpkin?" Riana asked looking down at her 13-year-old granddaughter.

Raina asked as she combed her fingers through black and white hybrid hair. Adjusting her round glasses at the rim of her nose.

"Well, it was the usual. Boring as always and by the way where is mom? Hadn't she reached home by now?" Jennifer asked her.

"Your mom-," Grandma Riana was interrupted by several shouts which resonated from the inside. Jennifer's eyes widened as she looked back at her grandmother, who passed her a sympathetic smile.

"I guess that's my call," Jennifer sighed, " Who is she mad at?" She asked with a hopeful glint shining through her eyes.

Grandma Raina grinned as she very well knows that her little bun was contemplating whether to take flight or not.

"It is for your older sister, Jane," Grandma convinced her. "She played with her phone all morning without helping your mom."

Jennifer grinned like a Cheshire cat, as much as she is frightened of her mom, she knows that her bossy sister of hers had it coming.

Jennifer jogged outside and arranged her shoes neatly, mimicking the innocent one since the other one was on the hot water.

As she slowly tiptoed inside the house, the shouts started becoming more audible.

"I HAVE TWO DAUGHTERS GROWNUP AS BIG AS A COW BUT STILL HAVE NO ONE TO HELP ME!!"

'Oh God looks like I am on hot water too', and with that, Jennifer sprinted down the hallway, praying that her mother may not find her.

At a certain she felt like her gut was screaming not to go to her room, but before she could acknowledge it was too late. She has already run straight into her fuming mother, who glares at her as anger emitted from her making Jennifer internally scream for her father to magically appear.

As if someone heard her plea, her mom's phone rang. The ringing sound interrupted the fuming volcano before her. Her mom made sure to deliver her, one last glare before hastily walking past her and aggressively grabbing her phone which was on her desk.

Jennifer watched as her mom's mood started getting better and better as the call went on. Much to her surprise, her mother smiled brightly at her daughter as she hung up.

"I have got great news, we have got a new maid."
