How do you start A book like this? Easy.

Jay: Boom.

Jay presses the button on his detonator and triggers an explosion that causes an APC to be flipped over.

Jay: Dumbasses.

Jay grabs his sniper and starts shooting the soldiers that scramble out of the other vehicles accompanying the APC. One by one the soldiers drop like flies until none are left alive. Jay picks up his walkie talkie and presses the button.

Jay: Targets are down and stolen APC is damaged but in one piece. Mostly.

Does this make sense? Of course not. There's no context. So let me give you A quick rundown. Jay and his friends were asked to help retrieve A stolen APC that had experimental AI tech. Ever played Metal Slug? That's where we are right now.

Tarma: Thanks. We can take it from here.

Jay: Copy that shades.

Jay puts the walkie talkie on his belt and opens A portal back to his house. He walks through and finds himself in A large area that resembled A food court seen in A large shopping mall. Complete with buffet line filled with foods of various types. From spicy curry to juicy handmade burgers. Jay grabs A plate and fills it with some mashed potatoes and chicken tenders.

Jay: Wish we had A real chef. These robots are nice and all but they're too formal. Probably not even the right word.

Lizzy: Probably not.

Lizzy Ongaro. Potentially the smartest member of the crew. Or at least the most creative. Guns, explosives, and even high tech AI. If it can be built then Lizzy is the one to ask. Unfortunately she tends to forgot about her personal health at times.

Jay: Did you stay in the lab again? You have bags under your eyes.

Lizzy: I might have.

Jay: Lizzy, we talked about this. You need rest and food. You can't stay in there all night.

Lizzy: Ok "dad".

Jay: I'm serious.

Lizzy: I know. And that's the problem. I get that you're the leader but there aren't many of us.

Jay: Which is exactly why I worry so much.

Lizzy: *sigh* Ok. Then I will at least try to cut down on my lab time.

Jay: Thank you.

Jay and Lizzy take their food and sit down at A table to finally start eating. Jay looked at Lizzy's plate to see she had A basic salad. He smiles happily and focuses more on his own plate. Jay, considering Lizzy to be like A sister to him, always ends up worrying the most about her. The others originally thought he was exaggerating until they kept finding her passed out at her lab table. Now everyone takes turns checking on her.

Jay: What were you even doing last night?

Lizzy: Software check for Itzel.

Jay: She can do that herself though.

Lizzy: It makes me feel better when I do it.

Itzel. The android Lizzy built by herself in A week out of boredom. Itzel is an assistant that Lizzy refuses to accept help from. Despite the fact that Itzel can easily build machines as well as hack into them. Jay was unsure of Itzel at first due to how robotic she seemed. But eventually he warmed up to her and now accepts her as an official misfit.

Jay: And it makes me feel better when you actually listen.

Lizzy: I get it.

Jay: I'm just saying. Everyone worries about you. You could at least think about how we feel when we find you passed out. Sometimes we think you might be straight up dead since you pass out on the floor on rare occasions.

Lizzy: Sorry. But building things makes me happy. It makes me feel useful. I just don't want to be alone again.

Jay: Then take breaks. You aren't going to end up alone just because you're "useless". So how about giving us all less to worry about?

Lizzy: I'll try. But no promises.

Jay: Good enough for me.

Not the best start. But at least I enjoyed that. Can't really promise anything since I've been gone so long.
