Chapter 2
Note: This chapter reveals a very sad and dark story, if you are not okay with this I would suggest to not continue.
Emily awoke just as her mother pulled into a gravel driveway. The moon was shining brightly above. Rubbing away the sleep from her eyes, she opened her door and began walking towards the mansion.
Walking through the house, she realised that she really needed to use the bathroom, so she turned around, and walked to the bathroom she saw awhile back. She walked into the room and came face-to-face with the weirdest looking mirror she had ever seen.
The frame was a beautiful gold with silver crystals that glinted rainbows in the moonlight, there was carvings in the gold that looked to be some kind of language, but none Emily had ever seen, the mirror had a bubble-like appearance, as if it was made from bubbles, Emily laid her hand on the gold, expecting a smooth, cold, stone-like feel to it, though it was warm and as soft as silk. Surprise flashed through Emily like a lightning bolt, as pure terror made her body motionless.
She couldn't see. She knew her eyes were open, but everything was black, nothing was in reach of her, she couldn't even feel the ground under her feet, she was floating. She closed her eyes, and saw... memories, her father, her aunt, her grandmother and grandfather, her sick father, him hooked up to tubes connected to medical equipment, his breathing ragged, the mask covering his mouth and nose, him reaching a hand up to her face and saying,
"Emily, my beautiful daughter, I love you so much, never forget that." he rasped
"No! Dad no! I'm not leaving you again!" Emily wailed, tears streaming down her face.
"You are going to have to my daughter, give your mother and brother my love."
And it was with that sentence that his hand fell, and he let one dying breath, and the light died from his eyes.
"NO!" Emily shrieked. Silence fell upon the scene, along with a high-pitched ringing in Emily's ears. Darkness flooded in again, closing up on everything around her, making Emily feel like she was floating again. Then with the feel of a rush of cold air through her body, she was falling. She tried to scream but couldn't, she could only hear the air whistling past her ears. She landed on solid ground with a thud, tried to look at her surroundings but couldn't, for she had slipped into unconsciousness.
Emily felt the hot sunlight on her face, and opened her eyes to see her mother sitting on a chair next to the bed with her hands on her face.
"Mom?" Emily mumbled.
Her mother looked up.
"Emily! You're awake!" She said gleefully.
"What happened?" Emily asked tentatively, already knowing the answer.
"Well, you passed out in the bathroom, and we think this fell on you, for it was next to you on the floor." Her mother said, reaching for a blanket that was covering something. She pulled off the cover and Emily nearly froze again with terror.
It was the mirror. Emily didn't know what to do.
Emily ran.
