Chapter 12

BEEP! BEEP! Lilly jumps up to the sound of her alarm and shuts it off. She hops out of bed and runs over to her closet, where she pulls out a beautiful bright yellow top with white lilies on it. She tosses it onto her bed, then she pulls out a bright yellow skirt to match it. She puts them on along with her black flip flops with tiny rhinestones on the straps, then she skips into her bathroom, combs her hair, and does her makeup. Now that she's ready to begin her day, she races downstairs to greet her family.

She hugs her mom, then Mike. "Good morning, mom. Good morning, big brother."

"Morning, sweetie," replies her mom with a bright smile.

"Good morning, baby sis." Mike smiles.

Lilly smiles back, then walks into the pantry, where she pulls out a box of chocolate pop tarts. She snatches two packs out of the box and sets the box back on the shelf, then she walks back into the dining room. "Ok, mom, I got to get going. It's almost eight o'clock. I'll see you later. Love you. Bye," says Lilly as she hugs her mom before leaving. "Oh, and see you later, big brother. Love you."

Mrs. Andrews says, "Ok. Bye, sweetie. I hope you have a good day. Love you too."

Mike replies, "Ok. Bye, baby sis. Have a great day. Love you too."

"I will," says Lilly with a big smile on her face as she walks out the door, closing it behind her. She peers down at her watch. It reads 7:59. A few seconds pass and, just as it strikes eight o'clock, Caden drives up. Lilly giggles as Caden shuts off the car and hops out.

He walks up to her, throws his arms around her, kisses her forehead, and greets her, "Morning, Lil. You look very pretty today. How did you sleep last night?"

She blushes, hugs him back, and kisses him on the cheek. "Morning, Caden. Thank you, and I slept pretty good. What about you?"

Caden replies, "Pretty good.... So, where do we need to go?"

Lilly thinks for a moment. "Hmm.... Well, Mrs. Jessica's house is first so...this way," says Lilly as she points straight ahead.

They begin walking forward and Lilly trips. Just before she hits the concrete, Caden catches her. "Easy there, Lil. You don't want to end up in the hospital again," snickers Caden as he stands her back up on her feet.

Lilly giggles. "No, that wouldn't be good, but it would be your fault."

Caden gasps, "Uh. And how would it be my fault?"

Lilly grins. "Well, it would be your fault, because I fell for you."

Caden bursts out into laughter. "Are you serious?" Lilly giggles and nods. Caden continues to laugh. "Aww. Well, in that case, we would be in the hospital together." Lilly gives him a puzzled look and he says, "Well, because I would've fallen for you too of course," says Caden with a smirk.

Lilly blushes and giggles. "Aww, Caden."

Just as they start to walk forward again, Lilly remembers something. "Shoot. I almost forgot," says Lilly as she reaches into her pocket. She pulls out the two packs of pop tarts, that she had grabbed from the pantry just a little bit ago, and gives one pack to Caden. "I brought us some breakfast. I hope you like chocolate." says Lilly with a smile as she tears into hers.

Caden gladly accepts the delicious pastry and says, "Oh, yeah. I love chocolate. Thanks, Lil."

She smiles back at him. "You're welcome, Caden." Then they begin eating as they continue walking to their first destination.

A few minutes later, they stroll up to a blue house with white trimming. Lilly turns to Caden and says, "You can just stand right here if you want to. I'm going to go get the dogs and I'll be right back." Caden nods his head and Lilly dashes up to the big white door. She knocks twice and the sound of barking dogs erupts out of the house as a sweet young woman with dusty blonde hair opens the door. "Good morning, Mrs. Jessica," greets Lilly with a smile. "I'm here to take Toby and Max for their morning walk."

Mrs. Jessica smiles back. "Good morning Lilly," she pauses for a moment, then says, "Oh. Yes. Sorry, Lilly. I completely forgot. It's been a busy morning," chuckles Mrs. Jessica. "Just a second and I'll have them ready."

Lilly nods. "Ok. No problem, Mrs. Jessica."

A few seconds later, Mrs. Jessica returns to the door with two German Shepherds hopping at her feet. Mrs. Jessica laughs. "As you can tell, they're a little excited."

Lilly giggles. "Yeah, just a little bit." Mrs. Jessica gives Lilly the two red and blue leashes and Lilly says, "Ok. I'll see you later, Mrs. Jessica." Then as she turns to walk towards Caden, she says to the two ecstatic pups, which are trampling her feet now, "Ok, boys, calm down and let's go." Finally, Lilly gets to end of the driveway, where Caden is laughing hysterically. Lilly smiles. "Caden, what are you laughing at?"

Caden tries to collect himself and replies with a laugh, "Nothing...except the fact that those two pups are walking you instead of you walking them." He lets out one last chuckle and asks, "Uhh...do you want me to take one and you take the other one?"

Lilly smiles. "Sure. I would really appreciate that." She gives Caden the blue leash, which has the most ecstatic out of the two pups, attached to it, Toby. Lilly informs Caden, "Ok, next up is Mrs. Dana's house."

"Roger that," says Caden, causing Lilly to smile. Then they begin walking to their next house.

Ten minutes later, as they're walking, a yellow house with white trimming comes into view. Lilly hands Max's leash over to Caden, then she walks up to the door of the house and knocks. She begins to hear a loud bark coming from inside the house. She thinks, "That must be Mia." Then Mrs. Dana's daughter, Layla, answers the door. Lilly greets her, "Good morning, Layla. I'm here to take Mia and Luna for their morning stroll," says Lilly with a smile.

Layla giggles. "Good morning, Lilly. Uhh...wait here just a minute."

Layla disappears from the door and a few seconds later returns, holding a pink leash in her right hand and a purple leash in her left. Connected to the pink leash is a sweet, energetic golden retriever named Mia and connected to the purple leash is an easygoing, gentle, and sweet golden retriever named Luna. Layla hands the leashes over to Lilly and says, "Bye, Mia. Bye, Luna. See you later." Then she walks back into the living room, closing the door behind her.

Lilly smiles. "Ok. Come on, you two." She gets back to Caden and reaches her empty hand out to his hand. "Ok. I can get Max back now."

Caden shakes his head. "Nah, you don't have to. I'm fine with holding onto both of them."

Lilly questions, "Are you sure? I don't mind. I know that they can be a lot of work." Lilly giggles.

Caden nods his head. "Yeah, I'm sure. I can handle them. Besides, they're not that bad."

Lilly says, "Ok. Don't say that I didn't warn you.... Alright. Next stop is Mr. Jack's house."

Caden smirks. "Alrighty. Then let's get going." Lilly giggles at his enthusiasm.

A few minutes later, they arrive at their next destination, a red brick house with black trimming and a black door. Caden offers to hold onto Mia and Luna's leashes while she goes to collect another playful pooch. So Lilly gives him the leash and races up to the door. She knocks twice and a sweet old man opens the door. Lilly greets him, "Good morning, Mr. Jack. I'm here to pickup Buster for his walk."

The old man smiles. "Oh, of course. Good morning, young lady. It sure is a pretty day today. Perfect for a walk."

Lilly nods in agreement. "Yes, sir. It sure is." The man smiles at her, then walks into his living room to grab Buster. A minute later he returns, holding a brown leash, which is connected to a sweet and spunky bulldog named Buster.

He hands the leash over to Lilly and says, "Bye now. Enjoy the sunshine."

Lilly smiles at the sweet old man. "We will. See you in a little while." Then the old man shuts the door as Lilly makes her way back to Caden.

Once Lilly returns to Caden, she gets Mia's and Luna's leashes back from him and they continue on to their next house.

A few minutes pass and they walk up to a brick house with tan siding. Caden asks, "Umm...Lilly, do you want me to hold onto them while you go get the next pup?"

Lilly replies, "Uhh...I guess. But Caden, are you sure? They're a big handful."

Caden nods. "Yeah. Of course I'm sure. I can handle them."

"Ok then. Here you go," says Lilly as she gives all three leashes to Caden. She looks down at all five of the energetic canines and says to them, "Now all of y'all better behave yourselves and be nice to Caden. I'll be right back." Then she walks up to the door of the house and knocks. She hears a small bark coming from inside the house, then Mr. Allen, a kind old man, answers the door. Lilly greets him, "Good morning, Mr. Allen. I'm here to take Buddy for his morning stroll," says Lilly with a smile.

Mr. Allen chuckles. "Well good morning, Lilly. Wait here just a moment."

Mr. Allen disappears from the door and a few seconds later returns, holding a black leash, which is connected to a cute, dark brown Italian greyhound named Buddy. Mr. Allen gives the leash to Lilly and says, "Bye. Take care. See you after while." Then he walks back into the kitchen, closing the door behind him.

Lilly starts to walk back to Caden, who is kind of struggling to hold onto all five ecstatic hounds. Lilly sees him struggling and tries her best not to laugh, but as she gets closer, she sees him all tangled up in the leashes. She can't help herself. She bursts out into laughter. Caden glares at her and once she finally composes herself, she comments, "Well, I told you they were a handful."

Caden smirks. "Mhm. Yep, you sure did. Now can you please stop cackling like a hen for a minute and get over here and help me get out of this spiderweb of dog leashes?"

"Yeah," says Lilly with a giggle. She steps over to Caden, grabs Mia's leash, and unwraps it from Caden's leg. She does the same with Buster and Toby's leashes, until finally, Caden is free.

Now that Caden is finally free from the "spiderweb," they can continue walking. He says, "Please tell me this was the last stop."

Lilly shakes her head and purses her lips, giving Caden a somewhat sympathetic look. "No, we have one more stop."

Caden looks down. "Darn.

"Sorry, Caden," says Lilly as she adjusts her grip on Mia's leash.

Caden smiles. "It's ok, Lil. I was just messing around. The truth is, I actually really like all of these sweet and playful pups."

Lilly smiles. "Well, that's good, Caden. I'm glad you do. You're really gonna love Daisy and Princess. They're twin corgis and they're absolutely adorable."

"Cool. I can't wait to meet them," says Caden with another smile.

A few minutes pass and they arrive at a mansion-like ivory house. Caden decides to hold onto all six leashes while Lilly goes to fetch the final two canines. So Lilly gives him the other three leashes and walks up to the large door. She knocks twice and a sweet, silver-haired British lady answers the door. "Good morning, Lilly."

Lilly smiles at her. "Good morning, Mrs. Belle."

The lady returns her smile. "You must be here for Daisy and Princess."

   Lilly nods. "Yes, ma'am."

"Ok. I'll go fetch them for you real quick," says Mrs. Belle as she dashes off to her huge living room to get them. A couple minutes later, she returns with a sweet corgi named Daisy connected to a baby pink leash in her right hand and another sweet corgi, Daisy's twin, Princess, connected to a baby pink leash in her left hand. She smiles at Lilly as she gives her the two leashes. "Here's my two pretty girls, all excited and ready for their morning stroll."

"Well good, because I'm ready too." Lilly giggles.

Mrs. Belle smiles, "Ok. Bye now. Enjoy this brilliant day."

Lilly returns the smile. "Same to you, Mrs. Belle," then she turns away and makes her way back to Caden as Mrs. Belle closes the door. When she gets back to Caden, she sighs a breath of relief. "Phew. Thank goodness they didn't entangle you in their leashes this time."

Caden snickers. "Yeah. Thank goodness."

Lilly smiles at him as she gets Mia's and Luna's leashes from him. "Ok, now on to the dog park."

They start walking to the dog park, but all of a sudden, a squirrel comes bounding in front of Lilly, causing the four dogs, that she's holding onto, to start pretty much dragging her down the sidewalk. Caden busts out loud laughing as the four pooches all but drag Lilly down the sidewalk.

Lilly screams behind her, "It's not funny, Caden. Help." She struggles to adjust her grip on the leashes. "Girls, calm down. Please. It was just a freaking squirrel!" Lilly struggles to keep up with their racing pace. "Caden. Help!"

Caden finally regains his composure and tries to catch up with them. Finally, after catching up with them, he takes Mia's leash and gives Lilly Buddy's leash. He says, "Here. I think that you can handle this little guy better."

Lilly smiles at Caden. "Thanks. I think so too." Then they continue walking to the dog park, a little more calmer this time.

A few minutes later, they arrive at the dog park. Lilly unleashes Daisy, Princess, Luna, and finally Buddy. Meanwhile, Caden untangles himself from Mia's and Toby's leashes, then unleashes them, along with Max and Buster. He looks to Lilly. "So, do you want to go sit over there?" asks Caden as he points in the direction of a big old maple tree.

Lilly nods. "Sure." Then they walk over to the maple tree and ease down beneath it as they watch the eight playful pooches bound after one another. Caden tosses his arm around Lilly's neck, pulling her closer to him, and causing her to blush. She lies her head on his shoulder as he softly caresses her cheek with the pad of his thumb, which makes her smile.

Caden looks down at Lilly and asks, "So, what do you want to do after we take the dogs home?"

Lilly smiles up at him. "Well, I was thinking...how would you like to go by the diner again? We can get a milkshake and then go to your grandpa's cabin and skip rocks and watch the sunset together."

Caden snickers. "You loved that milkshake didn't you?" Lilly just smiles at him in response. He laughs. "I've created a monster now, haven't I?"

Lilly smiles and nods her head in agreement. "Mhm."

Caden smirks. "Oh no. I'm doomed."

Lilly nods. "Yep."

Caden leans down and softly kisses her forehead. "Lilly, I have something very important to ask you."

Lilly looks up at him with a bit of concern upon her face. "What is it, Caden?"

Caden takes in a breath. "Well, I really don't know how to say this, but...." Caden takes in another breath. "Will you be my...girlfriend?"

Lilly, shocked by the question, says, "Wow, Caden. I really don't know what to say....
