Sleep, Darling, Sleep

Goodnight, mesdames and misters,
My friends and all my family,
My brothers and my sisters,
And may you all sleep happily.

Don't worry about the monsters
That live beneath your bed,
Or the nightmares playing on repeat
In the theatre of your head.

Don't fret about the mirrors
In which white figures prowl,
They're white and cold, but lifeless -
So they won't hurt you now.

Don't wish there was somebody
To stay right by your side.
You may think you're home alone,
But ghosts, they like to hide.

Don't curl under the blankets -
Face away from the door.
People go missing all the time:
Tell me, what's one more?

Don't fear the dodgy lights
That flicker on and off,
Or the sounds that penetrate the dark
That are unplaceable and rough.

Don't listen to the creaking
That sends shivers down your spine,
The clock may be ticking backwards
And not keeping the right time,
And through the eery quiet
There is a tinny whine,
And there's tapping at your window -
But I assure you, you'll be fine.

Don't be afraid of them, my dears,
They are wonders to behold.
They will not try to hurt you now,
Since they're under my control.
