Have you ever seen a child
Who's restless and fidgeting,
Who can't sit still at a place
And at times it gets irritating.

A little noise and they get distracted,
They are always moving around,
Grades fall everyday, teachers complain
The reasons for this have been found.

These children are hyperactive
They don't think before doing,
They speak too much, deviate off topic
And have poor attention to things on going.

They may be suffering from ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder they say,
These children often stay aloof from friends
And grow lonelier by the day.

They feel others don't understand them,
They're scolded for being a 'bad kid',
But the real reason for them being this
Is what the world doesn't heed.

They have low self esteem
That eventually grows with age,
And they grow frustrated and isolated
If not treated at an early stage.

This condition can be treated
And therapies are always there,
But what's most important is to recognise them,
And accept these kids as they are.

ADHD: A chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. ADHD often begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood. It may contribute to low self-esteem, troubled relationships and difficulty at school or work.

Signs include —

Behavioural: aggression, excitability, fidgeting, hyperactivity, impulsivity, irritability, lack of restraint, or persistent repetition of words or actions

Cognitive: absent-mindedness, difficulty focusing, forgetfulness, problem paying attention, or short attention span

Mood: anger, anxiety, boredom, excitement, or mood swings

Also common: depression or learning disability
