Chapter 31 An Attack At The Time Square

A large space mother ship made its presence known by slowly making its way through the first quarter of the city. It was a spectacular sight indeed, with a jaw-dropping feat of ninety feet, a consecutive number of ten floors, and a spanning length of 742 meters.

The masses on the ground were drawn to her giant demeanor. How they gawked at the aircraft, it's as if their eyeballs were nearly pulled out by a magnetic field of discombobulation. Many hurdled into a large crowd and pushed against each other, like the waves of a seastorm hitting intensely against the shore.

The sight of the mother ship caused an abrupt halt at the intersection of many street blocks. Traffic ensued as many drivers diverted their attention to it.

"Get a move on you moron!" One driver taunted.

"Shut your trap asshole! Can't you see that I'm also stuck in this traffic like you!" Another driver erupted as he peered his head out of the window and lashed out at him.

"He's finally here! Took him long enough!" Dan snarled and snapped his neck to adjust it. "Let's go get that son of a bitch!" He continued as Harrison furrowed his brows and gritted his teeth. "He's gonna pay for what he did to my parents!"

"Wait!" Sam said with his hand gesturing at the two snarling wolves, hissing with a desire to shred their prey piece by piece. How their indignation eclipsed their sense of judgment. It boiled their blood furiously, it wouldn't be a shock if steam emanated from their skin.

"What now, Sam? Do you always have to ruin everything!?" Dan inquired while the others glanced at them.

"We can't just go to battle without thorough preparation. Think about it... Seth isn't going anywhere. He came here for us and we need to be smart about how we are gonna face him."

Gordon then stroked the sharp edges of his double-edged sword with pleasure. His expression when he touched his weapon reinforced an image of a wedded man who had sealed a passionate kiss to his bride.

"I hate to admit this but he is right. Just as I've said before, Seth is not the kind to be trivialized. We need to come up with a strategy," Gordon said.

"Alright, then what do you have in mind?" Diana asked as she placed her hands around her waist.

"I'll fill you in but first, you guys need to gear up. You can't go into battle without a protective gear," Gordon stated.

Dan cleared his throat and spoke, "Where would we even get protective gear, our normal clothes won't cut it. Do you have Codexian armor lying around anywhere?"

"Not that I know off, but the only place that I could think is the scoutship that Caldor landed at that mysterious, cold white land," Gordon replied as he placed his thumb and finger around his chin.

"You mean the Arctic?" Sam inquired.

The five walked inside the ship with Gordon following them. Once they entered the cabin, the lights turned on and B-22, the A.I. scanned them with red harmless beams. Once the A.I. completed its analysis, it discovered Gordon and released a series of plasma cannons toward him. In response, the latter unsheathed his sword from his scabbard and directed it at the cannons

"Intruder Alert!" The A.I. responded, preparing to begin its assault.

Sam stood in front of Gordon and bellowed in alarm at the A.I, "B-22, wait. He's our ally!"

"Master Sam, I do not oppose your judgment. But is it wise to consider a man who pledged allegiance and loyalty to the Council, your ally?"

"Yes, we have no choice. We need him," replied Sam

"If this is your decision, then I will not object," replied B-22.

"B-22, do you happen to have Codexian armor or garments lying around?" Gordon inquired.

"Yes,  Master Caldor placed specialized synthetic Codexian garments in the ship's vault a long time ago. Knowing that you were still young at the time, the synthetic matter of the garments can stretch or reduce their size to accommodate yours. I'll lead you to the vault."

Then, a white door mysteriously emerged from the wall of the cabin. After forming, it opened, leading the five to the vault. Once they approached the room and entered, they discovered that the facility's flooring material had similar characteristics to that of a mirror. Just a small glance on the floor, one could see their reflection. More so, the vault occupied five grey mannequins inside five capsule tubes.

The mannequins were garbed with five Codexian garments which were black in pigment and consisted of torse plates, and long pants similar to motorcycle padded pants. Two of the suits though encompassed black capes. The  Codexian black suits also had a glyph "EX" which was red and white. It was printed boldly on the chest plates. The glyph symbolized the great houses represented in Codex, one of them being the house of EX.  Within each capsule tube, a printing of the sibling's names was embedded to show them which suit belonged to whom.

B-22 then spoke, "Before you could wear the suits, Caldor asked me to show you a clip, it is compulsory that you hear it."

The vault's ship's lights were deactivated, two holographic projectors stuck out of the vault's walls and they constructed a 3-D hologram of Caldor using laser beams.

"My children..." The latter began in a smooth, euphonious voice.

The five watched as he continued speaking. "So, this is the famous Caldor, our father," Dan replied and rubbed his chin.

"How I wish your mother Astrid and I would be here to see you grow up; to see you evolve brilliantly into different phases of your lives, and cherish every moment with you. Unfortunately, my desire may not come to fruition because of certain circumstances. I did the worst thing that any parent would do to their child, and that is to experiment and awaken your dormant meta genes. Although my curiosity to uncover our species' true capabilities was fulfilled. If you continued to live in Codex, your lives would change for the worse as you'd be alienated and possibly persecuted because of your abilities. Much worse, if the Council discovered this, you'd face harsh judgment as innocent as you are. Selfishly, I put you in harm's way. I sincerely apologize..."

Harrison, Dan, Sam, and Diana looked at Caldor sternly. Although it vexed them that he'd act so carelessly and recklessly with their lives. His apology softened their hearts, and they came to terms with the fact he understood the gravity of his misconduct. Thus, they continued listening as he spoke.

"For this reason, I've decided to send you to another planet for your survival, Earth. You might consider that planet an exile when truly it can be a place that you can call home. You're much children of Earth as you are of Codex. Use the knowledge that you've accumulated during your time and that knowledge will help you accomplish wonders not on your own but as a unit." The hologram of Caldor said and it disappeared.

"I think I finally understand," Sam said. The others looked at him, and Diana crinkled her eyes.

"What do you understand?" She Inquired.

"We were meant to be the bridge between Codex and Earth," Sam said.

Gordon's eyes widened because what Sam said was indeed true. He muttered to himself, "They are the ones who will finally help Codex atone for its past atrocities against the universe and its species."

Gordon then approached the capsule tubes and stood in front of them, "Wear your Codexian armor with pride. Pride yourselves in being Codexians and Earthlings. You are now the... Champions Of This World!" He said as the others looked at him from afar.

Sometime later, the four got into their suit. Sam and Diana's suits had capes, whilst Dan and Harrison's didn't have any.

"Hey, how come our suits don't have any capes?" Harrison asked a bit disappointed.

"Cause I got flair darling," Diana said.

"You don't need a cape to look like a badass kid," Dan said with a smile.

"Master Seth, now that we have arrived on Earth! What shall we do?' SSI inquired while he stood by Seth's throne.

In response to his inquiry, he sat back on his throne, snuggling his back against the chair while he stroked his goatee. Suddenly his savage nature crept up from the shadows. A malicious smirk prowled from his lip joints.

 "Wreak havoc!"

As he uttered that command from his lips, his subordinates scattered into many sub-divisions. Some made their way to the ground and fired rays of plasma attacks at the civilians. With each trigger pulled, the plasma rays fried each pupil to a crisp.

Where else, the other division used their scout ships and soared across the city and set many buildings into a blaze, through the use of canons. Amidst these buildings, many people were trapped and could not escape. And due to this unfortunate circumstance, they were eviscerated by the ravenous flames.

Meanwhile, at Time Square. As many civilians ran for their lives, five courageous souls emerged from the horizon. They traveled further into the hazardous region where civilians fled from. The civilians' harrowing cries contrasted with their serene, peaceful demeanor. A scout ship followed the citizens from a distance and shot multiple rays at them. Gordon stepped forward and drew his blade. Once he unsheathed the dreaded weapon from its scabbard, he swung it at the scout ship, thereby launching a green projectile slash. The ship was sliced in half when it came in contact with the slashing force.

Following that, they proceeded a bit further along the intersection, where they encountered a fleet of over 100 soldiers. SS2 used his earpiece to get in touch with Seth, "Master Seth, they are here. Just as you predicted, they brought Gordon with them."

"Oh is that so? Be sure to welcome our guests," Seth replied and stroked his chin.

 "Yes sir!" SS2 replied.

Without a moment's notice, the troopers aimed, centering their plasma cannons at them.

"Eh, guys this doesn't look good!" Diana responded with concern.

"Take cover!" Sam exclaimed.

The five then separated into different areas. They each hid behind a vehicle as they were bombarded by oncoming beams.

"Anytime now Diana!"

She raised her head above the bonnet while some of the beams were burned through the vehicles that they hid behind. She stretched her hand toward the fleet and fired a purple projectile attack. In turn, the projectile attacks transformed their weapons into a state of degradation. Brown erosion began to spread swiftly across the weapons, rendering them useless in the process.

The troopers gasped with caution, 'What is going on? Why aren't our cannons working?" SS2 inquired.

"Look, that witch has cast a spell on the cannons. She is responsible for this outcome!" Another of the troopers stated.

"Let's kill 'em. They are probably Sorcerers!" SS2 responded.

With no weapon at hand, they charged at them defiantly. With that in sight, Dan, Gordon, and Sam came out from hiding and locked horns with the troopers.

One trooper attempted to strike Diana with a blow to the face. She grabbed his wrist and threw him on the ground with the use of a judo takedown. After that incident, another charged at her with force. She responded by landing a hook kick toward the latter's ribs.

"Aah!" He yelped as his body collided with the ground.

Meanwhile, Dan struck one trooper with an axe kick toward the forefront of his chest. The latter also fell on his back, thereafter ten more troopers charged at him. He grinned with delight and said, "Well, well, well. What do we have here? Come along children. There is plenty of where that came from!" He fired numerous fireballs at them, not only launching them at great heights but as well as coating them with flames.

On the other hand, Sam fired multiple U.V. blasts at the approaching troopers. They were sent flying once the blasts contacted them. Meanwhile, Gordon slew his way through sixty more troopers. The edge of his foil was tipped with blood which trickled on the floor. Sam then stood beside him with his eyes narrowed. "Did you have to kill them?"

"Have you forgotten son of Caldor? I'm a soldier trained to kill. I'm not some mercyful hero."

Sam sighed wearily, "I wonder how Caldor became friends with you?"

While they chattered amongst themselves. One trooper attempted to strike Gordon from behind with a metal rod. In response, Gordon thrust the foil through his heart.

"Caldor may have been a soft. But deep down he knew they'd come to a point where he'd be forced to resort to lethal violence to defend himself."

There was wailing from every corner of the intersection, as more and more of the troopers were taken down, one by one until eventually a few number of them were left. The last fifteen then charged at Diana. She stretched her hands toward them and released a wine-purple projectile attack. The projectile attack repelled them at a further distance as their garments began to decay. Diana then looked around to see where Harrison was, but he was nowhere in sight. She looked ahead and only saw Sam, Dan, and Gordon.

She approached them and stood by Sam's side, "We have a problem!"

"What is it now?!" He inquired frustrated.

"Harrison is not with us," she responded.

"What do you mean he's not with us, where else could he have disappeared off to?!"

"I don't know," she replied.

As they conversed amongst themselves, an unprecedented outcome occurred. More than 500 more troopers emerged from all the Times Square's intersections. They were surrounded as behind was the building that occupied the giant LED screens.

To make matters worse, several scout ships made their arrival at the Time Square. They poised their cannons at the four from above.

"That son of a bitch!" Dan snarled as he clenched his fists. To add more fuel to the flame, the mother ship emerged from the depths of the sky. Hovering above the scout ships.

The situation truly was dire for the four. For they were like foals surrounded by a pride of lions. Suddenly all the mega-led screens projected a live feed of Seth, who sat comfortably on his throne. "Welcome! Welcome to my party, brethren! Oh, this is a time for us to celebrate!" The latter said excitedly.

The four looked at each other with puzzlement as they failed to decipher what the latter was blabbering about.

"Since I'm a noble person, I forgave you for rejecting my offer by rewarding you with different gifts. Although they were bitter, they filled me with joy. As for you Sam, it was satisfying to see you plead for mercy as I threatened to destroy that machinery of yours. And after I eviscerated it, I couldn't help but smile as you drenched the floor with your tears!

He wrinkled his nose with contempt and hissed maliciously at him. However, Diana grabbed his wrist, preventing him from initiating an attack. "Don't! One stupid move, we will all be fried to a crisp."

Seth then continued, "Moving onward. Though you may have rejected my offer. However it still stands on the table, the only difference this time is that your lives and the lives of the citizens will hang in the balance."

"What is he up to?" Sam inquired.

Gordon pondered to himself. "I don't know, but whatever that he is planning. It doesn't look good."

"Now then brethren. You have a choice. And that is to give yourself to me willingly or  I will pulverize this city and its people with my particle beam weapon."

They gasped with concern while he continued, "Make your choice brethren, and see how your actions will reward you."
