Chapter 3

Shadow ran. She ran like a whole angry wolf pack was after her. She ran further and faster than she even knew was posible. Finally, she colapsed onto the mossy ground, her paws were to tired to carry her any further. She lay, looking up at the thick, high canopy of trees that blocked almost all sunlight. She could see why it was called The Dark Forest. Shadow shivered. The ground was cold, as though it had never been touched by sunlight. Actually, thinking about it, it probably never had been. A chilly breeze brushed over the trees making them sway and the leaves flutter. The whole forest had an eerie feeling to it. Shadow jumped at every bird and snapping twig. Through the tiniest gap in the trees, she could see the sun sinking down, beneth the horizon. Somehow, it became darker. Shadow decided not to stay in the open, she didn't know what was lurking in those dark trees. She forced her exhausted legs upright and stagered deeper into the forest. She lay down in between two large roots sticking up from a large tree.

Shadow awoke. Her dreams had been filled with whispers and darkness. She sat up, eyes darting around. The darkness was oppressing. She had no idea what time it was or how long she had slept. Nervously she stood. Her paws still trembled with exhaustion after yesterdays blind run. Her stomach growled, loudly, reminding her how starvingly hungry she was. Then the first problem arose. She couldn't hunt. She had never been taught, not even basic techniques. How will I get food? Lily was right, I can't survive without a pack. Shadow thought, mind racing. A crow fluttered down, not far from where Shadow was standing. Her jet black fur blended perfectly into the dark woods. Slowly she stalked towards it, but it fluttered away before she even got close. Shadow started to move again, knowing that staying in one place in this forest wasn't a good idea.

Shadow had been walking for ages. Little did she know that the wood stretched for miles and miles. She stumbled, the food problem was getting more and more severe by the second. She had found a small icy stream, from which she had lapped some water but it had done little to quench her hunger. It clawed at her belly like a beast. She stumbled again, struggling forward. The world swayed slightly. She fell onto the cold ground. This is the end, she thought. Then she heard it. "Shadow...?" A faint whisper said. "Come Shadow, come to me!" It whispered so quietly that Shadow had to strain her ears to hear it. Shadow staggered forward, towards the mysterious voice. It seemed to call her very soul. Suddenly a loud CRACK echoed through the forest, jerking Shadow out of her trance. She stumbled again. A large bird of some sort lay on the ground in front of her. It was obviously dead. Shadow thoughts swam. Who had killed it?

Sorry for the short chapter
Also, I'm going to Stockholm the day after tomorrow, so I won't be updating in over a week. Thanks for understanding!
