Dearest Kate
Written on March 7th

The good news is that I'm alive. The bad news is that the plan failed. Also I hate to be the one to share this with you, but your brother has passed away.
I am so sorry.
I should be able to see you before you're birthday.

Kate sat down the letter in the table. Her brother was gone. Her hands where trembling. Her soon to be husband was alive. But the plan had failed. The government would carry out with the plan for population control. Every man and woman alive the age of 50 would be put to death in the new year.

Kate's roommate Zaynay came in,
"Katy what's wrong? You look as though you've seen a ghost."
"The plan  has failed, Kyle is gone, but thankfully Adam is okay. I don't know whether I should mourn my brother, praise God because Adam is alive, or start planning what to now."

"Calm down. Did Adam say when he was coming home?" Kate knew that voice . It was Zay's I-don't-trust-Adam voice.
"Before my birthday. You ma'am are not aloud to integrate him."
She said with a finger pointed at Zay. At that moment the ancient smoke alarm went off. Leave it to Zay to manage to burn rice.

Two months later

Adam walked though the door. Kate ran over and pressed her lips against his. As she pulled away she smiled at him. He gave her a sad smile back.
"Hey." His deep voice greeted her. His dark brown hair has grown long, concealing his dark eyes.

"Hey. I missed you." Zaynay cleared her throat in the door way.
"Excuse me love birds, I have managed to make some edible food." Adam laughed,
"You've been cooking again? I get home and you try to poison me. Want me gone already?"
"Yep." Zaynay says as she walks back into the kitchen.

Kate had decided to wait till Adam got home to plan the next step. They went into the tiny kitchen to eat the food Zay had prepared.
"Do have any ideas on what to now Adam?"
"A couple. Do either of you two have ideas?" Zaynay and Kate nodded.
"Good. With Kyle gone we need all the help we can get.

Kate looked at the old photo of Kyle, her parents and Kate. All three gone. Her parents worked in a high place for the government. When they realized that what the world leaders had planned they didn't want to be apart of it. But they knew too much.

Kate looked back at Adam and took his hand in hers.
"Adam how did Kyle die?" The question had been bugging her for a whole month.
"Katy. I don't know if you really want to know how."
"You don't have to give details. I just want to know what happened."
"Kate. No. You wouldn't want to relive the moment." Adam was using the super calm voice he always used when he was scared.

"Okay. I'm sorry. I won't ask again." Zaynay who was the only one eating during this whole thing said,
"Look Adam, Kate deserves to know. Her bother died, her turd of a boyfriend was sent off with her  positive that you wouldn't come back, her parents are gone and she has to put up with my crapy cooking. Tell her what happened to her brother!"

Adam stood up,
"No Zaynay! Kate said it was fine. I don't need to tell her!" Zaynay also stood up,
"Did you not hear my reasoning! If you don't want me to be here when you tell her I'm cool with that. But you've been walking all over Kate sense the day you two met. And I am through with it! Grow the hell up Adam." She said as she pointed her finger at him.

Kate remanded in her chair and calmly said,
"I'm the one who pays rent for this apartment. I have the right to kick both of you out. I'd suggest you to set down and in joy this meal." Adam sat back down.

"I'm sorry Kate. I lost my temper." He said as he took her hand.
"Will you forgive me?"
"Of course I do. I love you." Zaynay made a gagging noise.
"Oh barf. You have ruined my appetite. I'll see you later Kate." Zaynay said, as she walked out of the room.

"I'm sorry about her. I love her but she can be stubborn as a rock at times." Adam squeezed Kate's hand.
"You don't need to be sorry. And I love you too. So what's your idea?"
