Chapter 4: A "Witch" called Wanda
Westview, New Jersey
These last couple of months after Wanda and Vision's engagement has been one of the happiest times in Wanda's life. She finally had everything she ever wanted.
After accepting her true self and ending the multiversal war, Vision was back, her kids were back, her brother was back, she began warming up to her real father, Magneto, and she has made friends for life in Peter Parker and multiple others who would die for her if given a chance.
Wanda and Vision was standing in the kitchen while he tried to teach her how to cook. The two boys were already fast asleep upstairs in their room. This was the very first "lesson", so Vision took it upon himself to show her how paprikash is made, it was the first ever meal that he cooked for her when they first fell in love.
Vision: Now just a pinch of paprika. Just a pinch.
Wanda took a pinch and mixed it with the dish. She seemed troubled and not particularly looking like she was enjoying this at all.
Vision: Is everything alright darling?
Wanda: Of course! Why wouldn't it be? I'm just... I'm probably just tired that's all.
Vision: Wanda you don't seem okay as of late. I did this to maybe cheer you up, but it's clearly not helping. You have to tell me what's troubling you.
Wanda: I appreciate it Vis, but I'm fine... You don't have to worry about me.
She pecked him on the lips and continued to stir the pot with a wooden spoon, but then she suddenly stopped for a few seconds and thought about what she said, then she kissed Vision passionately, wrapping her arms around his neck while standing on her toes. Vision was taken by surprise, but he welcomed it with open arms... She took a deep breath through her nose and their lips parted ways. A small tear fell down her face as she gazed into his eyes.
Vision: Wanda?
He put his hand on her cheek while she closed her eyes and leaned into his warm, caring touch with her head.
Wanda: Vis, Is this real?
Vision: Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be?
Wanda: I don't know... Something just feels off. It's the same feeling that kept me awake during the... you know... Westview situation.
Vision wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
Vision: Tell me what you feel now.
Wanda: It all feels... Surreal. Too good to be true.
Vision: What do you mean?
Wanda: The universe has never been this kind to me. I'm... I'm afraid it will only last for a moment and then get ripped away from me again.
Vision: Wanda, look at me. It won't. Nothing will happen to us, I promise.
Wanda: I don't know what I would do... What I would become... If that happens again. I'm barely keeping it together as it is.
Suddenly there was knock on the door.
Wanda dried her face while Vision opted to go and open the door. On the other side, he was greeted by Doctor Strange. Wanda walked toward the door and smiled at the sight of him.
Vision: Mr. Strange. What brings you to Westview?
When Strange saw Wanda standing and twiddling her thumbs, something she does when she is anxious or uncertain, Strange got a concerned look. He could see something was wrong. Wanda walked towards him and greeted him with a hug.
Doctor Strange: Hey Wanda, nice to see you again.
Wanda: It's been a minute. I'm glad to see you too.
Doctor Strange: Is... Something wrong?
Wanda: Don't worry about it. Do you wanna come inside?
Strange walked in and they sat together on the couch.
Wanda: So, why the visit? I assume it's not because you missed me.
Doctor Strange: Unfortunately not. But don't get me wrong, it's good to see you. Glad to see you've settled in.
Vision: If you're not here to visit, why are you here then?
Doctor Strange: Look there's no easy way to say this... Well there is but it sounds utterly and completely ridiculous out loud...
Wanda: What is it?
Strange looked at her and kept quiet for a while.
Doctor Strange: Zombies...
Wanda: Zombies!?
Doctor Strange: Zombies.
Just when things began to settle for Wanda, another wave struck again. Deep down she knew it was ought to happen at some point. She stood up from the couch and walked to the open window to catch a breath.
Wanda: Where did they come from?
Doctor Strange: We think they might be from another universe. They are slowly appearing out of small dimensional openings across the world, seemingly to grab our attention.
Vision: Who's we?
Doctor Strange: I am working with Phil Coulson to recruit a team that would be able to take on the threat, it's called the midnight suns protocol. Wanda is one of the recruits.
Vision: If the world is being threatened, don't you think we should gather as many of our allies as possible?
Doctor Strange: We don't want to risk them getting infected.
Wanda: Infected?
Doctor Strange: We need people with the necessary skills to be able to stop this before it escalates into a worldwide apocalypse.
Vision: But I can't get infected. I am a synthazoid remember? I could be of assistance.
Wanda: I'm sorry but I can't let you go Vis... I think we should all just stay here.
Recently Wanda began doing good works to start making up for everything that happened in her past. It is a long and hard journey that won't come easy, so she wants to do anything to make people trust her and see her as a hero. She wants to become a beacon of hope, like what Spider-Man told her, but this was a very different kind of threat.
Wanda: I don't think it's such a good idea to leave Vision and the boys behind. If things escalates, I'd rather be here, protecting my family.
Doctor Strange: Things have changed. It seems like these things somehow know we are recruiting and they know who we are recruiting. It's like they're trying to pick us off one at a time. They will come for you, and they will come in great numbers. It would be better if you are away from Westview. That way Vision can stay here with your children and we can lure them somewhere else. Staying here could endanger them even more. And there's one other thing... We suspect all this might have something to do with the darkhold.
Wanda: (Sighs) This is ridiculous. Can't we just live our lives in peace? It's like we're just waiting for the next bad thing to happen. It's like there's something bad around every corner. When will it stop? I destroyed the darkhold! How can this be about that stupid book!?
Doctor Strange: I will explain everything once everyone is together.
Vision: Go. I'll keep them safe. I promise.
Wanda: I don't want to leave you. What if they attack you here when I'm somewhere else?
Doctor Strange: They won't come here if you're gone. Only if we fail to stop them. But that's not gonna happen.
Wanda: But...
Doctor Strange: I know what you're feeling. I know what you really want. Did you forget that a part of you lives in me now? You want to protect the people, but you also want to protect your family. But if we fail to protect the people, this could turn very ugly. As of now the threat is not on a large scale, we'd like to keep it that way.
Wanda: I can't do this again.
Doctor Strange: I know you're afraid. I know the past has hurt you in horrible ways. But this time we will stop it before it comes to that.
Strange stands up from the couch and holds out his hand to Wanda.
Doctor Strange: Do you trust me?
Wanda hesitates for a moment but then holds out her hand as well.
Wanda: I do.
Doctor Strange: Then let's head out. The others are awaiting our arrival.
