Seasons of FriENDship

"We'll keep in touch,"
"We'll miss you so much,"
"We'll meet again," they swore.
All those promises washed away like sand lines on a shore.

Come Fall they had all left.
Like little birdies, fleeing their nest.
I resided to silence and opted to bide.
For they had promised to not leave me behind.
I watched the leaves fall from the trees, leaving it barren and desolate.
I hoped against all hope, praying to not end up in the same hollow state.

Winter came and settled in.
Snow covering each and everything.
The hut we stayed in, the ground we played in.
The white cloaked what was left of our good'ol days.
Leaving behind a shell of me, poorly concealing the many cracks and scrapes.

Spring was the season that we all used to love.
Now I was left alone, drinking in a meek little pub.
I kept waiting for any news, from anyone?
Soon however, I realised that we're no more a gang of little ones.
But how could I forget what we all had, had?
When that was the biggest part of my existence, my treasure, my friends.

Summer came with all it's glory.
The heat, the ocean, the chance to write a new story.
I broke my restraints and stood tall and high.
This was it; finally came my turn to reach the clouds and touch the sky.
I opened my gates and allowed the light to flood my soul.
The thought of making new friends finally wasn't such a terrifying ghoul.

Fall circled back once again,
Along with my not-so-loyal friends.
They greeted me with fake smiles and false hugs.
I smiled back genuinely because for once in my life, I wasn't depending on their love.
They pleaded, "We're sorry, we didn't mean to leave."
I stated, "It's okay, I didn't mean to bleed."

Over the seasons I realised that not all is meant to be;
Sometimes you just need to allow fate to take the lead.
Life isn't fare, yes, but neither is it supposed to be.
People will hurt you and cheat you but that's what'll set you free.
So I don't hold a grudge against my friends because they left me yesterday,
For that's what has molded me into the better person that I am today.
