       THE DEVERELL SISTERS WERE CONSIDERED STRANGE by the narrow-minded townspeople of Hawkins, Indiana. "The Deverell Witches," they whispered behind their backs, "look at their eyes — they're pitch black; and look at their skin — it's as white as snow." They were the outcasts, the freaks, because they were so different from them. But they haven't always been...

       The year was 1980, October 20th, when India, Esme, and Anita Deverell disappeared from their home in the middle of the night. Their parents, Opal and Usher, were out for one night, the three sisters left alone at home. The next morning, they had vanished. There were no traces that indicated what had happened to them, baffling the whole town. It was unsettling, knowing that three girls could disappear without a trace. But, the thing that had the police investigators lose their sanity was that all the doors and windows had been locked from the inside.

       One month went by with no progress made in the case. The police tried, really; Chief Hopper spoke with the parents of the three almost every day, but nothing ever seemed to add up. It was a mystery that seemed to be unsolvable.

       Then, one fateful morning, the Deverell sisters reappeared, stumbling out of the woods, with no memory of where they had been for the past four weeks — but whatever had happened, it had changed their eyes and skin. It wasn't just their appearance, though, that was affected by these changes. Their touch seemed to have peculiar effects on people, and the bond between the sisters had evolved to something ... more, something otherworldly.

       No one could figure out what had changed them, but it scared the people of Hawkins. Strangeness always scared them. So, theories emerged, to explain the circumstances of their vanishing, stories — about satanic rituals, demonic possession, and witchcraft. And it didn't help that strange things started happening around the sisters, unexplainable things... It fed right into the delusions of the town.

       What nobody knew, though, what the sisters kept to themselves, a sinister secret tying them together, was that they had played a game the night they had disappeared. The Midnight Game. It was said that it was an old Pagan ritual, and India, who had always been interested in the Occult, convinced them to play. So, at the stroke of midnight, they invited the Midnight Man into their house. The goal was to escape him until exactly 3:33 a.m., armed with only a candle and salt.

       They hadn't expected to be kidnapped and captured by the Midnight Man.

       ... And they hadn't expected him to come back years later.

     note: OK I caved, I am finally writing a Steve Harrington fic after being obsessed with him and Stranger Things for YEARS. But I could never come up with a good plot. Now I could, though, and I am in looooove with it!!
💀 First things first, this story is inspired by House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland (I recommend this book to everyone, it is beautifully creepy), and the game The Midnight Game. That's an occult game that was originally a Pagan ritual, it will be explained further in the story.
💀 This story will follow all 5 seasons (Yay me.)
💀 I'm in love with Esme and Steve and I can't wait to write them. They're gonna serve enemies to reluctant allies to friends to pining to lovers 🤙.
💀 Anita will be the love interest for El. And Tatum is the love interest for Robin.
💀 Eddie is gonna be featured in seasons 1-3 as well, not just in season 4.
💀 I casted Steve's parents too, because I can.
💀 Also, the names of the Deverells all start with a different vocal, I thought that was a nice little detail 😊.
💀 Oh, and, it's gonna be sad. Like reeeeally sad.
