"What the fuck is going on here?" Christian snapped marching up to the tomb where Damon and Stefan put Katherine. He sees Stefan and Bonnie standing outside of the tomb. Then he notices Jeremy inside of the tomb with Katherine. It's obvious shes fed from him.
"Chris" Jeremy whispers. Christian growls and marches towards the tomb. Stefan quickly moves in front of him.
"If you go in there you won't be able to get out" Stefan warns him quickly. "Bonnie's trying to break the boundary" Christian glances over at Bonnie.
"She doesn't look like she's doing anything" Christian says seeing how weak and tired the Bennett witch is. "Katherine, let him go" Christian tells her.
"Don't worry, Chrissy-poo..." Katherine smirks at him. "I won't kill him" She promises.
"That's not enough" Christian says walking around Stefan. "Let him go, now" He growls.
"No" She whispers with a bloody grin. Christian's breathing begins to escalate. Ever since Elijah's return, Christian could feel himself teetering on the edge. He felt like it would only take one push before he's thrown in to endless madness, rage, and blood lust. Now, Jeremy's in the tomb with Katherine and it wasn't helping his sanity.
"Chris, it's ok," Jeremy reassures him. "I'm ok" Christian looks at him.
"What were you even doing here?" Christian snapped. "You know how dangerous she is, I told you to stay away from her" Christian practically shouts. "What were you doing?"
"He was getting the moonstone" Stefan speaks up.
"Oh, so he was apart of another stupid plan of yours" Christian snaps glaring at him.
"It was supposed to be me" Bonnie says gaining Christian's attention. "I was supposed to be the one to get the stone"
"Oh, really?" Christian asks tilting his head. He marches towards the teenage witch and grabs her hair dragging her closer to the tomb.
"Christian! Let her go!" Stefan snaps.
"Chris, don't!" Jeremy pleads.
"Give me Jeremy" Christian demands. "And I will give you Bonnie"
"Ooo, tempting" Katherine whispers. "Very tempting" She licks her looks looking at the girl.
"No! We are not doing a trade" Stefan snaps ripping Christian away from Bonnie. Christian growls at his younger brother. Bonnie shakes from behind Stefan as the youngest Salvatore uses himself as a human shield.
"Give me the witch, Stefan" Christian demands.
"We will get Jeremy, but not like this" Stefan tells him slowly. Christian clenches his fists and growls loudly.
"Oh, what a pity" Katherine pouts holding Jeremy close to her. "I would have loved to trade" She purrs with a smirk. "Oh, well... Jeremy's a good snack" Katherine extends her fangs and inches towards Jeremy's neck hoping to provoke Stefan but it simply causes Christian to snap.
Within seconds Jeremy is tossed out of the tomb and Katherine's neck is snapped with Christian locked within the tomb. Jeremy slowly stands up, still feeling weak from being fed on by Katherine.
"Chris" Jeremy whispers moving towards the tomb.
"Wait, Jeremy" Stefan quickly grabs him.
"This is what you wanted..." Christian whispers. Jeremy and Stefan share a confused look. "You knew I would trade places with Jeremy, I wouldn't even hesitate..." Christian slowly looks over at Bonnie. "You didn't want Stefan to be the one that ended up in here, so you text me" Christian walks out as far as he can.
"You killed an entire town, we're safer with you in there with her than out here. You're unstable, unpredictable" Bonnie tells him. Christian slowly smirks and begins to laugh.
"Why don't you ask Stefan how many people he's killed... I can assure you his number is twice as high as mine" Christian smirks devilishly. "Only difference is my little murder spree was within your generation... what happened to the town was child's play to some of the shit he's pulled" Christian nods to Stefan. "And yet you want to lock me away, interesting"
"Bonnie, get him out of there" Jeremy demands.
"I can't" Bonnie shakes her head.
"What do you mean you can't? Do a spell, anything! Just get him out!"
"I don't know how!" Bonnie snapped at Jeremy. "Even if I did, I'm not strong enough"
"We'll figure something out, don't worry" Stefan reassures him.
"I'm on the edge of my seat" Christian mutters boringly.
"I'm sorry" Jeremy whispers to him. "I was just trying to help"
"The more you try to help my brothers, the more trouble you're going to get into" Christian warns him. "This time, I was able to bail you out... Next time, you might not be so lucky" Christian tells him. Jeremy nods slowly. "Go home, get some rest" Jeremy nods hesitantly.
"I love you" Jeremy whispers reaching for his hand. Christian grabs it and pulls him into the tomb. Jeremy leans into Christian as the vampire kisses him possessively.
"I love you, too" Christian mutters against his lips. He caresses Jeremy's cheek before kissing his forehead. Gently, Christian pushes him out of the tomb before he looks at Stefan. "Don't let anything happen to him"
"I won't" Stefan promises. Christian sighs and slowly nods.
Within the hour, Katherine wakes up from having her neck snapped. She sees Jeremy's no longer in the cave. She notices Christian sitting against the wall, it's dark out and they're alone.
"I'm sorry" Katherine tells Christian. "I shouldn't have fed from him... I was just so hungry" She whispers.
"I can't tell if you're being sincere or if you're just trying to get me not to kill you" Christian says keeping his eyes closed.
"A little bit of both, more so on the whole 'trying to get you not to kill me' part" Katherine tells him.
"Well, points for honesty" Christian mumbles. Katherine keeps an eye on him, her body tense. "I'm not going to kill you right now, Katherine, relax"
"When are you going to kill me?" Katherine asks him not letting her guard down.
"When you stop being useful" Katherine frowns her eyebrows as her curiosity peaks.
"How am I useful to you?" She asks inching closer to him.
"You know about Elijah" Christian says. "You've hinted about it before, I want to know what you know about him"
"I met him when I was human" She tells him while sitting on the ground across from him. He opens his eyes and looks at her. "He has a brother named Klaus. Klaus has a curse and I was the key to breaking it. I was ignorant of the true purpose I served for a while. I grew close with Elijah. He loved me..."
"Did you love him?" Christian asks quietly.
"For a moment" Katherine whispers softly. "When I found out that Elijah planned on letting his brother kill me in a ritual to break his curse, I ran. I killed myself with vampire blood in my system. I completed the process and ran, I haven't stopped since. Klaus killed my family in revenge and Elijah helped him look for me"
"To run from someone, you have to try and keep tabs on them. You have to know an idea of where they are in order to keep away from them," Christian tells her. She slowly nods. "You knew about me and Elijah,"
"News about the Original's travels fast among the vampires who know and believe in them" Katherine tells him. "When I heard Elijah was with you, I was shocked. I didn't believe it but then he stayed with you for so long," Katherine smiles slightly. "I was happy for you" Katherine admits. "I know of your past with men and I know the kind of man Elijah is, I knew he would treat you well"
Christian holds her gaze for a moment before breaking it. He looks down at his hands. He didn't respond for a long time. His mind raced, all his thoughts focusing on Elijah.
"You loved him... Didn't you?" Katherine whispers. Christian sighs slowly before nodding. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a chain with a golden ring.
"He broke off the engagement right before we were to be married" Christian tells her. He plays with the ring with his fingers.
"Which is why you turned your humanity off for so long" Katherine realizes. Christian slowly nods. "What happened?"
"He chose his brother over me" Christian explains.
"Do you still love him?" Katherine wonders out loud.
"A part of me will always love him" Christian answers without hesitation.
"And how big is that part?" Katherine pushes. Christian sighs resting the ring in the palm of his hand. "Is it bigger than the part that loves Jeremy?" She asks. He slowly raises his head to look at Katherine.
"Jeremy taught me how to love life again" Christian tells her. "He makes me want to wake up in the morning, makes me want to get out of bed and start my day. He gives me something to look forward too. He's so generous and kind, smart and handsome. He's good, he's a good person. He's innocent"
"I remember him being apart of a plan to kill me not too long ago," Katherine brings up with a smirk. Christian slowly smirks as well. "Doesn't seem like something an innocent person would do"
"Please, we both have done worse things than plan revenge against someone who's harmed family" Christian points out. "Compared to us, he's practically an angel"
"We ruin everything we touch" Katherine whispers. "He wont be an 'angel' for long" She warns him.
Christian wanted to defend Jeremy. He wanted to tell her she's wrong. But she wasn't. Every life that Christian touches leads to death, heartbreak and pain. He knew he would be a fool to think Jeremy wouldn't be effected like the others.
"Jeremy won't be able to handle your darkness without succumbing to his own," Katherine says causing Christian to close his eyes. "That light that you see in him, that light that you love in him, will burn out sooner or later. It's who we are, Christian, we smoother the light of those we love. Sometimes we do it for fun, other times we do by accident from our own selfishness"
"Why are you telling me this?" Christian growls.
"Because I don't think you and Jeremy will last" Katherine tells him honestly. "I don't think he's strong enough to handle you. Answer me honestly, have you been holding back with him?" She asks raising her eyebrows. "And I'm not talking physically"
"I told him about Noah" He answers her. Katherine tilts her head. "And I've confessed about Elijah. I've been as truthful as I can with him"
"Have you told him about the orphanages you destroyed?" Katherine asks. Christian tenses. "All the children you've killed, all the couples you've maimed? All because they had something you didn't?"
"How do you know about that?" Christian asks slowly.
"Like your brothers, I've kept my eye on you" Katherine tells him. "It all makes sense now. Elijah breaks up with you before you can start a family with him so you go on a killing rampage on the families that resembled anything close to what you and Elijah could have looked like" Christian looks away from her ashamed of his actions. "You may have told him some dark secrets but you haven't been completely honest with him... you still have a lot of darkness to expose him too and I don't think he could take it"
"He doesn't have to know" Christian whispers.
"But he'll find out if he's anything like Elena" Katherine points out. "The second he suspects you're hiding something, he'll sniff it out like a hound dog"
"You could be wrong" Christian says looking at him. "I killed an entire town and he let me fuck him after he washed their blood out of my hair" Christian smirks slightly. "He's not as fragile as you make him out to be"
"Maybe not" Katherine shrugs. "But after being exposed to so much darkness, it's only a matter of time until he changes into someone else. Someone darker and that light you love so much will be gone"
"I won't let it" Christian shakes his head. "I'll protect him,"
"Let's say you do protect him. Then you become obsessed with protecting him. Obsession leads to smothering" She points out to him.
"Why are you so against the idea of him and I together?" Christian growls.
"Because I'm trying to get you to see that Jeremy isn't right for you" Katherine tells him. "I care about you, Christian. You need someone who can see your darkness and stand strong. You need someone to be able to pull you out of your head without falling under the pressure. If you give Jeremy everything, there's a possibility he'll run and that will leave you all alone again. Do you think you could survive it a second time?"
"Shut up" Christian growls. "Jeremy won't leave me, he promised"
"Is he even 16 yet?" Katherine asks tilting her head. "How many 16 year old's stay with the person they're with for the rest of their life?" Katherine questions him. "He's going to grow. He might find a hot girl or guy in school? His interests will change, are you sure he'll want you to stay?"
"He's mine" Christian growls clenching his fists.
"Possessive traits aren't attractive to everyone" Katherine points out. "I'm just looking after you, Chris. You need someone more experienced, someone stronger than Jeremy. Jeremy will fall into your darkness and never be the same, you need someone who knows the darkness that you carry and be able to withstand the storm."
*Elijah will be in the next chapter, promise!*
