*Chapter Thirty Six*
"Where are you heading off too?" Christian glances over his shoulder and sees Mia, a friend he recently made here in Boston.
"Got a call from my brother, he wants me to check up on someone in Colorado" He answers while stuffing some clothes in a duffel bag.
"Chris, the club has been open for barely a month and you're just going to leave?" Mia asks crossing her arms.
"I have complete faith in you, Mia" Christian tells her. "I know you'll keep the club up and running,"
"You barely know me, Chris, and you're going to trust me with your club on my own?" Mia asks.
"You have the numbers of the other girls that run my clubs, give some of them a call. They'll tell you how well I take care of my employees. They'll love you. They even meet once or twice a month," Chris says zipping his bag. "They usually go somewhere outrageously expensive, use my credit card, and then discuss all the new ways I apparently piss them off." He smirks slinging the bag on his shoulder. He turns towards her. "It's like a support group" He shrugs.
"And what if I don't want too? What if I don't want this?" Mia asks raising an eyebrow at him. Chris sighs and walks up to her.
"Give it time, it's not that bad. Give it an honest try for me" Chris pleads. "If you truly don't like it, you can leave. I'm not trapping you here. I can find someone else but I have a feeling that you'll be a good fit" Mia smiles feeling more relaxed.
"Who's in Colorado?" Mia asks.
"An old friend my brother wants me to look after," Chris says while walking around her. "I won't be long, I'll be back before the end of the year"
"You know," Mia begins while following Chris out of the house he had been renting. "I have spoken to one of your girls, Jenny" Chris smirks instantly knowing where she was going. "You said something similar to her and have yet to return permanently"
"Don't worry, Mia, I always return just in sporadic visits" Chris explains tossing his bag in his car. He then sighs and reapproaches her. "Listen, I'm not going to sugar coat it. I don't do much," Mia nods having already figured this much out. "This is your show, do what you want with it. I'm here if you need me and I will come and visit. Almost all of the earnings go to you. This is basically your club, I'm just a silent partner"
Mia slowly nods as she mulls over the 'new' information. It was starting to set in that she's essentially a business owner despite being titled 'management'. With that being said she also had more power and more pay than Christian on a day-to-day basis.
"All of the other girls have their names in bold large lettering by the club label right in front of my name which is always in less significant font" Christian says opening his car door. Mia giggles a bit. "The girls just love me" Christian says sarcastically.
"I can see why" Mia says amusingly. "Be sure to tell Jeremy I said hi" Christian tenses and turns his head towards her curiously. "Who else would you be going to Colorado for?" She asks smirking before walking away from his car.
"Am I really that predictable?" Christian mutters to himself before starting his car.
It took Christian almost two days to reach Denver, Colorado. The closer he got, the more nervous he became. Christian wasn't the same person he was when he last saw Jeremy. He also doubted that Jeremy would be the same person. A lot can change in just six months.
Christian threw himself into his work when he arrived in Boston. He put most of his attention in the club but not even the club could keep him from his problems. He had to sort things out, he had to figure himself out. He didn't feel as if he were completely there but he also felt as if he were in a better spot than he was six months ago, which is improvement.
When Christian turned his humanity back on all those years ago, and left it on, he did everything in his power to ignore the world. He ignored how damaged he truly was. He threw himself into drugs, alcohol, blood, men and his work. It worked for a while but then Jeremy came.
Jeremy was a godsend for Christian.
Christian truly believes that Jeremy is the light that brought him out of the darkness. Without Jeremy, Christian would still be in the same place he was before he returned to Mystic Falls. A place with no real future, a place where he was simply just existing.
Now, after having Jeremy in his life, Christian can see a future for himself. He wants to get better, he wants to fix himself. There is no doubt in Christian's mind that he loves Jeremy but he has also come to terms that he isn't right for the human boy.
Jeremy deserves someone much different than Christian. Someone safer, someone without all the baggage and damage that comes with Christian. He hated to admit it but Katherine was right. He would ruin Jeremy. He would never do it intentionally but over the years, Christian could see himself wearing Jeremy down to a person completely different compared to how he is now.
Christian never thought he'd be thankful for Jeremy leaving him but he is. It was the right thing to do. It was what pushed Christian to Boston which further pushed him in the direction to find help. He would always cherish the time he spent with Jeremy and he would always be there for the human boy but as a friend and protector.
So, when Damon called saying that Jeremy was in Denver and would like if someone were watching after him, Christian didn't object. Damon also filled him in on everything that had been happening. He told Christian about Klaus and Stefan, about the Original family and the ball Esther Mikaelson had put together.
Christian had already known about the ball. He didn't know how Elijah found him so quickly but the noble Mikaelson had sent him an invitation. It arrived at Christian's club in Boston.
A part of Christian, a rather large part, wanted to return to Mystic Falls to be with Elijah. Refusing to go to the ball had to be one of the hardest decisions he had made in a long time. His mind felt as if it were constantly at war with itself when it comes to decisions regarding Elijah.
One side wanted to completely move on from Elijah while the other wanted to give him another chance. Christian still didn't know which way to go, so, for now Christian avoided anything that had to do with his ex-fiance.
"Here goes nothing," Christian sighs climbing out of the car. He grabs his bags and walks up to the door of the house Jeremy has been staying in for the past two weeks. Apparently the house belonged to some old college friends of Jeremy's parents or something like that.
"Hi, can I help you?" A girl questioned answering the door. Christian discretely smells and listens for Jeremy. He pinpoints him in the upstairs level of the house.
"Hi, I'm going to be staying with you while Jeremy's here. We're old friends and it's all completely fine with you," Christian compels the woman. "I'm Christian, by the way, and I'm going to need you to invite me in"
"Oh, come on in," The woman smiles kindly.
"Thank you" Christian grins stepping into the house.
"I'm Cynthia" She introduces herself. "My parents and Jeremy's used to be close, he's staying with me for a while"
"Oh, great" Christian smiles turning towards her. "Anyone else live in here?"
"Nope, just me" Cynthia shrugs. "And now you and Jeremy" She adds.
"Is there a spare room I can have?" Christian asks.
"Oh! Yes, there is. It's right next to Jeremy, I'll show you-"
"No need, I can find it. Thank you, Cynthia" Christian smiles. Cynthia nods and returns to the kitchen.
Christian sighs and walks up the steps. He notices Jeremy's door is closed. He grins feeling excited to see him. He quickly tosses his things into the spare room beside Jeremy's before proceeding to waltz into the teenagers room.
Christian's eyes instantly fall onto Jeremy. His ex-boyfriend doesn't even notice that someone else is in the room. He simply continues to lay on the bed, eyes closed while listening to music.
Christian leans against the doorway and crosses his arms. Despite cutting his hair, Jeremy still looked extremely handsome. He also seemed to have grown in the last few months they've been apart.
Before Christian could come up with some elaborate plan to announce his presence, Jeremy opens his eyes.
"Jesus Christ!" Jeremy practically shouts as he jumps in his bed.
"Actually it's Christian Salvatore" Christian smirks. "Could have been Salvatore-Gilbert but ya know" Christian teases with a shrug.
"What are you doing here?" Jeremy frowns his eyebrows.
"Damon asked me to check up on you, hang around for a few days" Christian tells him. "Guess they pissed off some Original's back home and are expecting some retaliation, I don't know" Christian shrugs again walking into the room. "I wasn't really listening to him"
"Original's?" Jeremy asks knowing what they are but not what they would want with him. Christian hums while looking around the room.
"I don't know what they expect me to do, I'm not exactly a match for an Original but I guess it helps them sleep at night knowing I'm here" Christian explains. "Besides, I missed you" Christian mutters softly. He turns his head and gives Jeremy a small smile.
"I wasn't expecting you to skip town" Jeremy brings up.
"There was nothing keeping me there," Christian says. "It was best if I left."
"I heard you went to Boston" Jeremy shifts to the edge of his bed, his eyes glued on Christian.
"I have a new club there, you should check it out. You know, when you're old enough" Christian smirks. Jeremy scoffs.
"Since when do you care about my age?" Jeremy asks with a small grin.
"Since I became I responsible adult" Christian says obviously. "Can't be getting fined for letting an underage boy in my club, I'd loose my fortune" Jeremy laughs quietly. "So, Denver huh?" Christian asks sitting in Jeremy's chair by the desk. "Why exactly did you come here?"
"I'm not entirely sure," Jeremy admits. "They kept me even more out of the loop when you left and next thing I know I'm coming here"
"Did they compel you?" Christian asks calmly.
"I wouldn't know if they had" Jeremy shrugs. Christian clenches his jaw angrily. "It's fine Chris-"
"No, it's not" Christian snapped. "Nothing good comes from erasing memories and forcing someone to do something under compulsion"
"So, you've never compelled anyone?" Jeremy raises his eyebrows.
"Only my meals" Christian tells him. "I wouldn't do that to you," Jeremy gives him a look. "I did that because if I didn't Damon would have and I wouldn't be able to take it back, which I did" Christian points out defensively.
"Don't worry about it, alright? You can't undo it, you can't take it back, it wasn't your fault" Jeremy told him.
"If I had been there I could have prevented it" Christian mumbles.
"You left for a reason, a good one" Jeremy tells him. "Don't regret it, you did what you had to do. Mystic Falls isn't the place for you, it never has been." Christian gives him a small smile.
"I like the hair cut" Christian complements. Jeremy gives him a small smile. "I'm gonna go get some fresh blood supplies, don't leave the house without me" Christian says standing up.
"Chris" Jeremy calls before the vampire could walk out of the room. "I missed you too," Christian turns and gives him a small smile before speeding off.
