*Chapter Thirty Seven*

"Christian Salvatore," Christian turns around in the dark room. A bag in his hand filled with blood bags from the hospital he had just stolen from. "I've heard a lot about you"

"Can't say the same about you," Christian replies causing the slightly shorter, but not by much, man to grin. "Who are you?"

"What? My big brother, Elijah, didn't brag about his psychotic little brother?" He asks tilting his head.

"You don't look like Klaus to me," Christian shrugs. An annoyed look crosses over his face. "So, you must be Kol,"

"In the flesh," He says smirking again.

"I assume you're here for Jeremy," Christian guesses. Kol slowly inches towards Christian. He shrugs slightly with an indifferent look on his face.

"More or less," Kol shrugs. "Mainly just supposed to keep an eye on him," Kol says stopping a few feet in front of Christian. "And use him as leverage against those in Mystic Falls,"

"Why are you telling me this?" Christian asks frowning his eyebrows. Kol grins even wider.

"Because while you are familiar with my family you don't seem to consume nor carry vervain on you"

Christian presses his lips together. He knew it was stupid to not consume vervain when he knew he would be dealing with the Mikaelson's but he honestly didn't believe he would see anybody other than Elijah. Christian was also consumed with the fact that he was going to see Jeremy again. Besides, Damon made it sound like the Mikaelson's wouldn't even care about Jeremy so there would be no danger. He obviously thought wrong.

"So, I think it would be a lot of fun to hang around Jeremy with you," Kol steps even closer to him. "Knowing that you won't warn Jeremy, or anybody for that matter, about who I am, what I am, and why I'm here" Kol compels. "All you'll tell him is that I'm just some guy in the neighborhood trying to make friends, there's nothing suspicious nor dangerous about me,"

"I should have stayed in Boston," Christian grumbles turning his back to Kol and continuing his journey back to the house. Kol smirks and jogs to catch up with him before matching his pace.

"I've caught up on who you are after learning you almost married my brother," Kol tells Christian who simply huffs. "Who would have thought Elijah would be the homosexual in the family?" Kol wonders to himself. "He wasn't always a homosexual, I'm sure about that, so that brings the question on what caused him to switch teams?" Kol glances at him. "Are you that good?" He wonders curiously.

"Haven't had any complaints," Christian shrugs with a small grin. "Certainly not from your brother," Kol smirks. "Why? Is being in the 21st century making you curious?"

"Not yet but you'll be the first to know" Kol smirks clapping him on the back.

"Kol, what are you doing?" Christian asks in annoyance. The two of them stop walking and face each other.

"Strolling through the night with my brothers ex-fiance" Kol grins.

"Look, I get your here to follow Jeremy around and whatnot, there's not much I can do about that," Kol grins even wider and shrugs slightly. "But we're not friends so stop with the buddy buddy act," Kol pouts causing Christian to roll his eyes.

"You know, I'm going to be around a lot more, least you could do is lighten up," Kol shrugs.

"From what Damon has told me you're not the friend making type, what are you doing?" Christian asks.

"I wasn't lying," Kol tells him. "I'm here to watch over Jeremy and use him a leverage should it be needed. Now, I'm not the baby sitting type so I'm trying to have some fun while I'm 'working' and you seem like the perfect person to have fun with. I'm very curious about you, we were almost brother-in-laws you know,"

"Well, we're not and we're not going to be,"

"You sure about that?" Kol asks stepping closer to him. "You know, Elijah was awfully disappointed when you didn't accept his invitation to the ball." Christian fights back any emotion from showing on his face. However, he was pleased with the fact that his absence affected Elijah. "Makes me wonder if there's still something between you two. If there is, well then, that is something I can hold over Elijah's head," Kol smirks deviously.

"My life was a lot simpler before you Mikaelson's decided to show up," Christian grumbles. Kol laughs and watches him walk down the street but doesn't follow him this time.

"A very common thought with people involved with our family," Kol says casually knowing Christian could hear him.

Annoyingly, Kol made quick friends with Jeremy. Christian and Jeremy were getting some food when they 'bumped' into him. Unable to warn Jeremy to stay away from Kol, the Original Vampire practically followed them everywhere. He had tried to stop Cynthia from inviting Kol inside the house but was too late.

"What?" Christian snapped. Kol had been staring at him with a funny look for the last ten minutes. Him, Christian and Jeremy were inside playing some video games. Christian finally snapped when Jeremy wondered off to use the bathroom.

"You fucked Jeremy," Kol declares as if he solved the puzzle on Wheel of Fortune. Christian rolls his eyes and goes back to scrolling through his phone. "It's all in his body language. Who haven't you fucked?" Kol wonders.

"That's none of your business," Christian grumbles making Kol laugh.

"Who knew baby sitting would be so entertaining?" Kol wonders out loud. "You, Christian Salvatore, are a very interesting character" Christian simply hums. "I'm curious," Kol goes quiet waiting for Christian to look at him before continuing. "How does that work? I did some research and I'm wondering, who bottoms?"

"Kol!" Christian snapped causing Kol to bark out laughing.

"I hate imagining it but I don't see Elijah as a bottom," Kol looks at him. "But I don't see Jeremy as a top," Christian rolls his eyes and rubs his face. "A lot has changed in the world since 1914,"

"Being gay isn't exactly a new concept," Christian says.

"Oh, I know that but same sex relationships weren't even thought of within our family," Kol tells him before going into deep thought. "Although, I do remember Rebekah becoming awfully close with a few women throughout the years but that could be anything" He shrugs not necessarily caring.

"Do you ever shut up?" Christian asks.

"Not often" Kol shrugs. A moment later Jeremy returns and they start playing video games again.

"Can't I get a break from you?" Christian groans seeing Kol laying on his bed. Jeremy had fallen asleep a few hours ago and Kol had 'left' a few hours before that.

"What happened between you and my brother?" Kol asks looking at him. Christian tenses ever so slightly but it's clear as day to Kol. Christian walks over to his closet and pulls his shirt off.

"Why don't you ask your brother?" Christian suggests.

"Because I'm asking you," Kol shrugs sitting up. "Elijah looked for you all night at the ball. Elijah's never tried to marry anybody before, especially not a man,"

"Well it didn't really work out," Christian says sarcastically.

"Why?" Kol presses. "I could always compel you," Kol teases with a smirk.

"Then do it," Christian snapped turning towards him with a sharp glare. "I'm not going to talk about it willingly. If that's the only reason you're here then leave because I'm not about to tell you my life story," He growls. "If you're so curious or you want to know if I'm a good card to hold over your brothers head then ask him,"

"Fine, Elijah's off the table," Kol says calmly. "I won't mention him again," He promises. Christian eyes him curiously. "But can I just say this one thing?" Christian doesn't stop him so Kol continues. "Elijah will always choose Klaus," Christian looks away from Kol and clenches his fists. "I'm assuming that's why you two didn't work," He adds hesitantly. Christian doesn't deny it. "Elijah has chosen Klaus over everybody. He's chosen him over former lovers, over other siblings, over everybody. You've learned that lesson once already, I don't think you need to learn it again,"

"Why can't you just leave me be?" Christian whispers.

"I guess I see myself in you," Kol shrugs standing up. "The brother that didn't fit in, the brother that the others only remember when they're useful to them, the brother that's always in the way," Christian glances at him. "Damon and Stefan are very close, they work together. Yet you're never to be found. I did my research on you. You have clubs throughout the country and you're almost always at one of them. Almost like you're avoiding someone," Christian holds Kol's gaze pleading for him to just leave. "Now, I'm assuming you weren't only avoiding Damon and Stefan but also my brother and possibly others but that's beside the point,"

"Is that it?" Christian whispers.

"Yeah, I guess so," Kol nods backing away from him. "Be careful around my family Christian, we make destroying lives an art form" Kol says seriously before slowly smirking. "Better get some sleep, I'm going to kick your ass tomorrow at the batting cages" He smirks before disappearing out the window. Christian releases a small breath.

Thankfully, Kol never felt compelled to start any deep conversations with Christian again. He stayed true to his word and never mentioned Elijah around him. He never even mentioned the fact that him and Jeremy have history. Kol kept the conversations light and comedic.

It was easy for Jeremy to trust Kol, especially since Christian seemed to be at ease around him. However, Christian didn't let his guard down. He knows who Kol is and despite not being able to do much, he still keeps his attention on him. He's careful not to let Kol close, despite the Original's attempts.

Apparently, Kol hadn't been to the modern day batting cages since his undaggering. One visit wasn't enough, Kol had them going nearly every day. It didn't bother Jeremy in the slightest, he loves sports.

"I love this aluminum bats," Kol boasted to Christian for the millionth time. "They hardly ever break, one of humanities greatest inventions"

"You're easily amused," Christian comments standing by home plate with a bat in his hands. Kol eyes him as Christian swings and hits the incoming ball.

"Why do you like drinking from blood bags?" Kol asks curiously. "It's nothing compared to a fresh vein" He smirks.

"Convenience" Christian shrugs getting ready to hit another ball. "I don't have to worry about finding someone, compelling them and letting them go"

"Why worry when you can just kill?" Kol smirks. "And don't tell me you don't enjoy the hunt" Kol says. "It's one of the most thrilling things in the world," Christian simply grunts. "You don't talk much, do you?"

"The activities I take pleasure in don't normally require talking" He says seconds before hitting another baseball. "But I do like to talk to people, just not you"

"Ouch," Kol playfully puts his hand on his chest. Christian smirks slightly.

"Hey, are you guys ready to get something to eat?" Jeremy asks walking over as Christian exits the batting cage. "I'm starved,"

"What an excellent idea," Kol smirks. "Care to grab a bite to eat?" Kol grins looking at Christian.

"Yeah, let's go" Christian rolls his eyes at Kol and follows after Jeremy. They go to a local diner and Kol sneaks off for a different kind of meal.

"How long are you going to stick around?" Jeremy asks and Christian nods.

"Until you go back to Mystic Falls," Christian says watching him eat.

"You're not going to come back with me?" Jeremy asks. "I know you, Damon and Stefan aren't close but they do miss you" Christian smirks.

"Well, I'm glad they miss me" Christian winks at him.

"I already told you I missed you," Jeremy shrugs with a small grin.

"Mystic Falls isn't the place for me," Christian tells him. "I don't think it ever has," He admits. "But, if you were ever to need me, I'd be there," Jeremy smiles at him. "I still love you, Jeremy, I don't think that will ever change. No matter where you are or what kind of trouble you're in, I'll help you out,"

"But as a friend," Jeremy adds slowly and Christian nods. "Look, I know I broke things off-"

"And they need to stay off," Christian interrupts him. Jeremy's shoulders dropped. "We were good together for the short time but not the long run,"

"When I'm older?" Jeremy suggested hopefully.

"When you're older you'll find someone much more compatible and someone much more deserving than me" Christian says with a small smile. "Jeremy, I want you to think about Damon, Stefan and Elena... You have to have noticed that she's a different person compared to before we all entered your lives." Jeremy slowly nods. "Not all those changes are for the better, I don't want my influence to ruin you and you'd be kidding yourself if you thought it wouldn't"

"What if I turned into a vampire and hunted you down in a century or two?" Jeremy suggested jokingly.

"Well, in case I'm all yours" Christian winks before turning serious again. "I want you to live a human life, a happy one. I want you to have goals and a future that is your own,"

"Why couldn't you have been a human today with me?" Jeremy grumbles making Christian smile.

"You would have definitely made my human life bearable" Christian admits. Jeremy gives him a half smile. "Be happy Jeremy, enjoy life," Christian tells him. "The supernatural life isn't all sunshine and rainbows,"

"Yeah, I picked that up" Jeremy mutters.

"You've scratched the surface," Christian says. "Don't get deeper," Jeremy looks at him before slowly nodding. A few moments later, Kol returns and lifts the mood with his stupid jokes and innuendos.
