*Chapter Thirty* {Rose}

*I hope I don't disappoint!😬😬😬*

"Alaric sure likes his weapons" Damon comments looking at the weapons Alaric had lent the Salvatore brothers to go save Elena. Apparently, said damsel, had been kidnapped after the party by some vampires. Christian originally wanted nothing to do with the rescue mission but after Jeremy's rather... provocative promises, Christian was the first in the car.

"What the fuck is that?" Christian asks looking at what Stefan was holding.

"I don't know" Stefan shrugs. "It's a vervain bomb or a grenade launcher or something like that" Christian laughs at his clueless brother.

"Weird" Damon mutters.

"Hey, how much further is it?" Stefan asks Damon as he drives down the road.

"About 80 miles"

"Who do you think took her?"

"Someone from Katherine's past" Damon shrugs.

"Well, that narrows it down" Christian scoffs.

"She said she was running from someone, they got the wrong girl" Damon further explains.

"Thank you both for helping me" Stefan says after a few moments.

"With all do respect, little bro" Christian speaks up as he shifts his long legs in the back seat. "I'm not exactly doing this for you"

"Can we not do the whole road trip bonding thing? The cliche of it all makes me itch" Damon wiggles in his seat.

"Oh, come on Damon. We both know that you being in this car has absolutely nothing to do with me anyways" Stefan calls his brother out.

"Awkward" Christian mutters obviously staring out the window and away from his brothers. "Oh, dear, a deer" Christian laughs at his pathetic joke.

"The elephant in the room lets out a mighty roar" Damon talks over Christian.

"Well, it doesn't have to be an elephant. Let's talk about it" Stefan presses causing Christian to whine loudly.

"Oooohhh mmmmyyyy Gooooodddd!!" Christian whines like a child. "Can you two do the whole awkward 'We're both into Elena' talk when I'm not stuck in the backseat?" Christian requests. "I can give you two a number for a family therapist, he's really good... Great fuck too" Christian smirks to himself. Damon looks at Christian through the rear view mirror and rolls his eyes.

Soon, a slightly awkward silence fills the car as Damon continues to drive down the road. Slowly, Christian begins to whistle random tones while looking out the window. Stefan rubs his face and sighs before looking out the window as well. Christian grins knowing he was getting to his brother.

"We're getting close" Stefan says loudly. Christian rolls his eyes.

"If you wanted me to stop, you could have just said something" Christian mumbles not so quietly.

"Jeremy said there's an access road just past mile marker 6" Stefan continues completely ignoring Christian. Damon reaches in the backseat beside Christian and grabs a blood bag.

"If you want some, just ask" Damon says to Stefan casually.

"I want some" Stefan nods.

"Ah, that's so sweet. You're gonna be all big and strong and save your girl but don't worry, I've got your back. It'll be fine" Damon reassures him.

"I'm not joking" Stefan shakes his head. Christian arches an eyebrow at him. "I've been drinking a little every day. I'm slowly increasing my intake and building up my strength" Damon shrugs and hands him a bag.

"Elena know you're drinking blood?" Christian asks curiously.

"I've been drinking hers" Stefan tells him.

"How romantic" Damon says sarcastically. "Since we're road trip bonding, remember the days when all you lived for was blood?" Damon smirks. "You were the guy who ripped someone apart just for the fun of it"

"You mean when I was more like you?" Stefan asks.

"Hey, Damon's been doing good lately, no ripping apart" Christian defends his older brothers.

"Thank you, Christian" Damon smiles in the mirror at him. Christian gives him a curt nod.

"Now, me on the other hand" Christian smirks cracking his knuckles. "I could give your old ripper self a run for his money" Christian lightly jokes. "It's a shame we weren't talking during your ripper days, I heard you were pretty fun. Any chance of meeting that guy? What happened to him?"

"I guess, like you, he found something else to live for" Stefan says glancing back at him. Slowly, Christian nods in understanding.

When they got to the part of the road that was near the house Elena should be in, Damon pulls off to the side of the road. The three brothers climb out of the car with weapons.

"The house should be just beyond those trees" Damon points in the direction they were going. "Wait," Damon says stopping Stefan. "Chris and I got a lot more experience than you do with those shorts of things"

"What is your point?" Stefan asks.

"His point is, whoever has Elena is probably who was after Katherine in 1864 and before that" Christian says as if it were obvious but of course Stefan needed more explaining.

"And?"

"And it puts them at 500 years old and strong" Damon deadpans. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yeah, I'm certain I want to do it" Stefan nods.

"Because we go in that house, we may not come back out"

"Alright" Stefan shrugs. "I won't come out"

"Oh, how sacrificially noble of you Sir Stefan" Christian rolls his eyes.

"I can't think of a better reason to die... Would you not do the same thing for Jeremy?" Stefan challenges. Christian sighs but stays quiet. "But if you two wanna stay here, I'll totally understand" Stefan says walking away from the car. Damon and Christian look at each other. Christian shrugs and follows Stefan. Damon sighs and walks after Christian.

"So, how do you guys wanna do this?" Christian asks as they stand within the woods but looking at the house.

"Well, we're not gonna know who we're up against until we're inside. Get Elena out of harms way, kill anyone who's a threat" Damon shrugs looking at Christian. "Pretty simple"

"And I'm assuming you both would like for Elena to walk out alive" Christian says slowly looking between his two brothers. Damon and Stefan give him a look, neither of them bothering to respond. Christian smirks slightly as he follows his brothers inside the house.

"It's with Katherine" The brothers hear Elena say from somewhere in the house. The three brothers separate from each other.

"Interesting"

Christian freezes. His blood runs cold. His legs practically give out from under him and he's forced to lean against the wall for support. Stefan, who's closest to him, grabs Christian and pulls him off to the corner.

"What's wrong?" Stefan asks lowly. Christian can't answer. His throat is closed and he's unnaturally pale. His hands shake and his back slides down the wall until he's sitting on the floor. "Chris?"

"What is that?" He asks as Damon makes some noise to capture their attention.

"Stay here, it'll be alright" Stefan says not understanding but knowing Christian was in no position to do anything.

"Who else is in this house?" He questions.

"I don't know" Some random voice responds shakily. Within moments his scent swarms around him. Before Christian can realize what he's doing he's breathing in the scent, the sweet smell he hasn't smelt in decades. Despite everything that's happened it still has a calming affect on him.

Next thing Christian knows is Elena and Stefan are beside him. Slowly, he pushes himself up to a stand, his hands still shaking. Stefan gives him a weary look.

"Trust me" Christian whispers to him. Stefan hesitates but eventually nods slowly. "Stay here" He says to the two of them.

"-you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me" Christian closes his eyes and he takes a deep breath. The melodic sound of his voice slowly convinces Christian to leave his hiding spot. "You can't. Do you hear that?" He questions while making a stake out of an old coat hanger. "I repeat, you cannot beat me" He says confidently. "So, I want the girl. I'm gonna count to three or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"

Slowly, Christian leaves the comfort of the shadows and comes into the light. Elijah's back is turned towards him. He can feel Elena and Stefan staring at him, both wondering what he was doing. Christian takes a deep breath.

"Hello, Elijah" Christian says softly. Even he is surprised by how calm and collected he sounded despite feeling absolutely panicked on the inside.

Elijah's body tenses as Christian's voice reaches his ears. At first, his mind instantly goes into denial. But then he takes a moment to take in his scent. The scent that he could never forget. The scent that, to this day, is still engraved in the jacket he left behind all those years ago, a jacket Elijah keeps with him wherever he goes.

Slowly, Elijah turns around. His eyes travel up the staircase and land on Christian. The both of them take a moment to take the other in. Neither of them looked significantly different. Christian's hair had grown out but everything else seemed the same, he still looked like his Angel Eyes.

"Christian" Elijah whispers, the Salvatore's name rolling off the tip of his tongue. Christian didn't know what he was gonna do when he gained Elijah's attention and even now, when he has it, Christian has no idea what to do. He's frozen in his spot. "I've been looking for you..." Elijah brings up.

"I know..." Christian replies. Elijah watches him as Christian walks down the staircase. Christian keeps Elijah's eyes on him as he walks closer. Soon, Christian stops in front of the Original vampires.

"You look handsome, Angel-"

"Don't" Christian snapped. "Don't call me that" Elijah's face falls slightly.

"I put you through so much pain..." Elijah whispers sorrowfully. "I cannot even begin to tell you how sorry I am..."

"I'm not" Christian shakes his head. "I'm not sorry for anything, especially not this" Elijah frowns his eyebrows slightly too distracted by Christian standing in front of him to notice his ex-fiance discretely grabbing a wooden stake and thrusting it into his chest. "I wish this was as painful for you as it was for me when you walked out that door..." Christian growled slowly pushing the dagger deeper into his head.

Elijah groans and drops his coat hanger stake. His hands wrap around Christian's arm but he doesn't even attempt to fight back. He keeps his eyes locked with Christian's. He can see all the anger, all the pain within them.

Christian slowly lowers Elijah's body to the ground as his perfect pale skin begins to turn grey. By the time Elijah is laying down completely his body is limp.

He can hear movement behind him but he pays no attention to them. He simply stares at Elijah. He feels as if he's frozen in place.

"Chris?" Damon asks kneeling beside his brother as Stefan talks to Elena. He looks from his brother to the dead vampire. "Is this him?" Christian doesn't have to respond for Damon to know. "I'm not gay but... I mean, I get it" Damon shrugs with a small smirk hoping to get Christian to lighten up.

"I want to be alone" Christian says quietly. Damon glances at Stefan. The youngest brother shakes his head not believing it to be a good idea if they stay. "If you don't leave me alone I will turn Elena into a vampire" Christian promises. Elena tenses and clings to Stefan.

"You have our number if you need us" Damon says softly. "Do you want Jeremy?"

"I need to be alone" Christian shakes his head. "I'll find Jeremy when I'm ready" Damon slowly nods and stands up. He looks at Stefan and Elena before nodding his head towards the exit.

Eventually, Christian moves from Elijah's body to the staircase. He sits down and stares at his ex-fiance trying to get his thoughts straight. He isn't sure if he's ready to face Elijah again. He didn't know if he wanted to stick around for him to wake up or leave him there and find Jeremy. He didn't know what to do.
