*Chapter Thirty Eight* {Heart of Darkness}
*If you got another notification for this chapter I was just changing the chapter title, I'm working on the next chapter now*
"Hey, Jer!"
"Elena?" Jeremy steps out of the batting cage and goes towards his sister. "What's wrong?" He asks her.
"Katherine sired us, Rose sired Katherine, all we need to do is find out who sired Rose" Damon explains to Jeremy.
"So, you traveled across the country to get me to talk to a dead vampire?" Jeremy questions raising his eyebrows.
"Dead vampire is redundant, but yes" Damon nods.
"Well, I can't" Jeremy tells him. "I could talk to Anna and Vicki because I knew them. I've never met Rose"
"What good is you dying and coming back to life if you can't talk to a ghost when I need you to?"
"You died?" Jeremy turns around seeing Christian standing there. "What the fuck? Why did nobody tell me?"
"We weren't exactly talking at the time and as you can see, I'm fine" Jeremy tells him simply. Christian goes to continue but Elena cuts him off.
"Look, Rose spent a long time running from Klaus as well. She and Damon were close, so maybe we can use him as a connection" Elena suggested. Christian gives her an annoyed look.
"Fine, fine, but can we do this later?" Jeremy asks them. "My friend just got here and yes, Damon, I actually have some friends. I'll call you when I'm done"
"We are not done talking about this," Christian growls.
"I'm not your responsibility, Chris" Jeremy tells him. "Let it go. It's done and over with." He says before walking towards Kol. Christian clenches his jaw and glares at the ground.
"Damon, it's Kol!" Elena gasps. Christian sighs and looks up just in time to see Kol hit Damon with a wooden bat. The bat breaks and Damon falls to the ground. Christian didn't know if he should feel guilty or not for grinning at the sight, he didn't.
"What are you doing?!" Jeremy shouted.
"Jeremy, get back!" Elena snapped. "He's an Original"
"What?" Jeremy asks looking at Christian.
"No hard feelings, mate. But we're not buds." Kol smirks picking up an aluminum bat. Jeremy then looks at Christian who can only hold his gaze for a few seconds before looking back to the ground. "You know, I'll never get use to aluminum. But hey, at least it won't break" Kol grins going to hit Damon again but grabs the bat and stabs Kol with the broken end of the wooden one. Kol falls to the ground temporarily dead.
"What the hell, Chris?!" Damon snapped glaring at him. Christian stands his ground as Damon marches up to his little brother. "I told you to come here and watch after Jeremy! What were you thinking letting him and Kol hang out"
"I didn't exactly have a choice" Christian snapped shoving Damon away from him.
"Why? Did you fall for him too?" Damon asks tilting his head. "What do these Mikaelson's have over you that makes you choose them over us?!"
"Watch it, Damon" Christian growls clenching his fist.
"How can we trust you if you're always fawning over them, huh? How do we even know you're not working with Elijah? Or is it Kol now?" Damon asks.
"Back. Off." Christian growls feeling his anger rise even more but desperately trying to keep in control.
"Chris, did he compel you?" Jeremy asks knowing that Christian wouldn't put him in harm willingly. Christian slowly looks away from Damon and to Jeremy. His face softens and he slowly relaxes. A guilty expression gives Jeremy the answer he needed.
"Next time, asshole, get all the facts" Christian growls looking back at his brother. "You know I would never allow any harm to come to Jeremy if I can help it,"
"Guys, we can argue on the move" Elena speaks up. "This isn't going to keep him down for long" She says motioning towards Kol.
"You guys go ahead, I'd hate to be in on your plan since you apparently don't trust me" Christian spat. "Oh, and FYI," Christian turns back to his brother. "This is exactly why I don't normally help you and Stefan" He growls.
"Chris-" Jeremy steps towards him but the middle Salvatore disappears. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Jeremy asks looking at him.
"Let's just go" Damon grumbles grabbing Elena. Jeremy looks at Kol before following after them.
Christian quickly gathers his things before tossing them in his car and speeding off before they could arrive. He drives into town before pulling off the side of the road.
"Why worry when you can just kill?" Kol smirks. "And don't tell me you don't enjoy the hunt" Kol says. "It's one of the most thrilling things in the world,"
Slipping out of the car, Christian wonders around the small town. He knew he was risking running into Damon staying in town but he was hungry. He also didn't give a fuck about his brother at the moment. If Damon caught him, oh well, Christian knew he could handle his brother.
Unfortunately, Christian couldn't exactly find any attractive men that looked remotely gay. However, there were a few female eyes that lingered on him. He simply had to take his pick.
Choosing an Asian looking woman, Christian sends her a small wink. He smirks widely as she blushes and tries not to look. Eventually, Christian is able to corral the woman into a secluded area. It was still in the public for people to see, however, it just made things all the more exciting.
"Hi" She says taking a seat at the table beside Christian. He reaches over, grabs her chair, and pulls her closer. She gasps and blushes madly.
"Hi" Christian whispers pushing some of her hair away from her neck. His eyes zero in on her pulse. He could feel his fang wanting to come out as he licks his lips seductively. He looks back into her eyes while listening to the speeding tempo of her heart. "I'm going to feed from you and you're going to enjoy it. You'll close your eyes when I bite into your neck, you'll smile and even moan quietly. You won't fight, you'll simply sit there and allow me to drink until your heart stops beating"
"What?" She whispers. Christian smiles and extends his fangs before attaching them to her neck. Like he compelled her, she closes her eyes and smiles. Her soft moans reach his ears as he feeds from her carefully.
"Feeding in public? What a naughty boy," Christian reluctantly pulls away from her and licks her neck clean of blood before pulling away. The girl falls onto Christian's shoulder and remains quiet.
"Felt like grabbing a bite before I returned to Boston" Christian shrugs holding the girl close to him. Kol smirks at him.
"Well, before you go, mind telling me where your brother is?" Kol asks tilting his head. "I want to return the favor"
"Check Cynthia's," Christian suggested. "Don't know how much longer they'll be there though"
"Why would you tell me that?" He asks curiously. Christian casually shrugs.
"Why should I care what you do to Damon?" Christian asks making Kol all the more curious.
"What happened after he stabbed me?" Kol wondered. He could sense something different about Christian. Normally Christian is carefree and relaxed, sometimes annoyed but Kol knew how he could be. However, right now Kol could sense a slight shift in Christian.
"I can't help you anymore than that, so, if you'll excuse me" Christian avoided answering while lifting the girl up enough to have access to her neck again. Kol watches closely as Christian feeds from the girl. He was skillful and discrete. Kol wondered what it would take for him to get messy.
When Christian is done he positions the girl innocently. He knew nobody would give her a second look for a little bit seeing as though she was obviously having a good time with him. He stands from the table and looks at Kol.
"Don't you have some people to hunt down?" Christian asks walking around him.
"I'm curious," Kol follows him towards his car. Christian rolls his eyes. "What is it like at one of your clubs?"
"Well, you did your research, you tell me"
"Reading and hearing stories is different from experiencing it"
"So, come experience it" Christian shrugs opening his car door. "I'll be in Boston when you're ready for a good time" Christian smirks before slipping in. Kol grins watching him drive away. He wanted to go with him but he had to stop Damon, Jeremy and Elena first. Turning in the other direction, Kol dashes away.
By the time Christian returned to Boston, Mia had already turned the club into her own masterpiece. Christian grinned at the differences before walking into the building. It wasn't open yet but the employees were there getting the place ready.
"So, he returns" Mia grins walking up to him.
"Like what you've done with the joint" Christian complements. "Looks nice"
"Thank you," Mia smiles. "I wasn't expecting you back so soon, it's been a couple weeks"
"Plans chance" Christian shrugs. "I wasn't needed nor wanted anymore so, I left" He grins walking up to her. "You're stuck with me for a while,"
"Oh, yay" Mia says teasingly. Christian chuckles. "Oh, there's a guy in your office, he's been here since yesterday"
"What does he want?" Christian frowns his eyebrows.
"He wants to talk to you about a business deal, wouldn't talk to me and he wouldn't leave" Mia shrugs.
"Well, I'll talk to him. This is your show so it'll be your decision" Christian assures her while heading towards his office.
"It's good to have you back, Chris" Mia shouts after him.
"You won't be thinking that in a few weeks" Christian replies jogging up the steps. Mia grins before turning back to her work. Christian walks into his office fully prepared to argue with the man who wouldn't work with Mia but freezes.
"I was beginning to think you weren't going to come back,"
"What are you doing here?" Christian asks slowly walking into the office closing the door behind him. "Shouldn't you be in Mystic Falls with Klaus?"
"Klaus can handle himself," Christian rolls his eyes. "When you didn't respond to my invitation to the ball-"
"It was short notice," Christian cut him off walking over to the bar cart.
"Would it have mattered either way?"
"Probably not," Christian mumbles. "Drink?" He asks but doesn't bother to wait for a response. Christian pours them both a drink. "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
"Do you not know?" Elijah questions walking towards him. "I'm here for you,"
"We haven't talked in months,"
"I've been daggered for months," Elijah informs him. Christian spins towards him finally meeting his gaze. "I couldn't come to you even if I wanted too, and believe me, I wanted too"
"And now you're here," Christian leans against the wall. "And I'm going to assume that the business proposal is fake."
"Just a little fib, no harm done" Elijah shrugs.
"Well, you've annoyed the girl who runs the place. I'll be expecting an apology to her" Christian say sternly. Elijah nods in agreement.
"I'm surprised how easy it was to get in here," Elijah sips on his drink. "You practically have me banned everywhere else,"
"Figured you would stay away, I was wrong" Christian shrugs. "Looks like I've been making a lot of mistakes here recently." Elijah raises an eyebrow but Christian shakes his head. Respecting his decision, Elijah doesn't question it. "How long are you staying?"
"Haven't decided" Elijah sets his empty glass down. "I was wondering if you would join me for dinner, I believe the lovely Mia is about to open"
"If you're here to try and get back with me, then you should leave. I'm not looking for a relationship right now,"
"Then how about friendship?" Elijah bargains. "If that's all that happens then so be it,"
"I don't know if I can do that," Christian whispers. "I can hardly be around you, Elijah, without wanting you"
"But you don't trust me," Elijah whispers knowingly.
"Would you trust you?" Christian asks. Elijah sighs and shakes his head.
"I'm a patient man, I'll wait as long as it takes to regain your trust" Elijah promises.
"We've have this conversation before, Elijah" Christian reminds him. "Why don't you go back to Mystic Falls, back to Klaus, and leave me the hell alone"
"Klaus has taken my happiness more than once throughout our life," Elijah tells him. "I just want to take some of that back,"
"What do you think is going to happen, Elijah? We're going to get back together and I have no doubt it'll be great. Elijah, it won't last. Klaus will find himself in trouble and you'll go running. I'll be left in the dust, left to pick myself up and put myself back together. I love you Elijah, but I can't afford to be broken by your again"
Elijah stares into Christians eyes. The Original moves closer to the Salvatore. Christian doesn't more an inch, just watches as Elijah comes to him. He doesn't stop Elijah from resting his hand on the side of his face. He leans against Elijah's touch.
"No words can express my sorrow for what I did to you," Elijah whispers to him.
"You're loyalties will always lie with Klaus and your siblings," Christian whispers to him. "If you can't find a way to balance your loyalty to them and yourself, then you'll never have anyone to call yours"
Elijah hesitantly presses his forehead against Christians. Christian looks into his eyes before closing them. His hands instinctively reach out and rest on Elijah's sides.
"I love you, Christian" Elijah whispers. "I wish it was me who will be in your future but I lost that chance a long time ago," Christian's eyes screw shut. Lightly, Elijah presses his lips against Christians.
For a moment, Christian allows himself to give into Elijah. He pulls the Original closer and deepens the kiss. Elijah instinctively takes control making Christian smirk.
"Goodbye, Angel Eyes" Elijah whispers. When Christian opens his eyes, Elijah is gone.
