*Chapter Nine* {Haunted}
"Where the fuck are you going dressed like that?" Damon asks laughing at his brother.
"I am infiltrating the high school Halloween party" Christian smirks turning to his brother.
"Looks like you're gonna go to a sorority and give the birthday girl a lap dance," Damon tells him.
"Well this is from my stripper days" Christian mutters smirking. "So, am I sexy?" Christian flexes.
"I'm gonna pretend my brother didn't just ask me that" Damon grumbles leaving the room. Christian smirks and turns back to the full-length mirror.
"Maybe I can arrest someone" Christian mutters to himself looking at his cop costume. The booty shorts felt tighter than the last time he wore them. The shirt only covered his pecks, being that it's technically a crop top. His belt holds a squirt gun, baton and a set of handcuffs.
"What are you wearing?" Elena asks standing in Jeremy's bedroom doorway.
"A costume" Jeremy shrugs turning to her. "How do I look?" He asks. Elena struggles to find words. Standing in front of her is her little brother wearing a sleeveless orange jumpsuit that seemed to be a size or two too small. On his chest, there's a series of numbers telling Elena that he's going to the party as a ripped prisoner. "Stefan gave me the idea."
"Stefan?" Elena asks. "Why would he tell you to dress like this?" She asks. Jeremy simply shrugs with a smile.
"And don't get all judgy on me" Jeremy motions to her outfit which was less than kid-friendly.
"Alright, alright," Elena says holding her hands up. "Let's go" She smiles at Jeremy and the two of them walk out of the house.
They arrived at the same time. Christian sensed him instantly. His heart pounded in his chest, his jaw clenched as he tried to ignore the human's presence. Christian wasn't the only one to sense the other. Jeremy, on some level, knew Christian was around.
Jeremy notices that Matt had Elena's attention and he snuck off. He looked for Christian. Stefan had told him he was gonna be here, more specifically that he was gonna be dressed as a sexy cop. Jeremy suddenly became uncomfortable in the tight jumpsuit as he imagines Christian.
However, he didn't have to imagine for long as he spots Christian in the crowd. The sexy cop was flirting with some cowboys.
Jealousy bubbles within Jeremy. His jaw clenches and he walks up to Christian. Seeing the sudden movement, Christian turns to Jeremy. Christian only has a moment to think before Jeremy's pulling him into a deep and passionate kiss. Christian caves quicker than a deck of cards.
All thoughts of the cowboys leave his mind. Christian walks Jeremy back against some lockers, pressing him against the cool metal. Jeremy moans quietly but Christian hears it clear as day. When Christian finally pulls away from Jeremy, both of them are breathless.
"Hi" Jeremy mutters with a small grin on his face. Christian growls and reconnects their lips hungrily. Christian could feel his desire, his need for Jeremy wash over him amplified by his vampirism. It felt impossible to pull away, to add on top of that, he didn't want to pull away.
"You should have stayed away" Christian mutters against his lips.
"I'm a big boy, I can make my own decisions" Jeremy whispers. Christian smirks grinding into Jeremy roughly.
"Is it just a coincidence that you're wearing a prisoner outfit?" Christian asks him. Jeremy smirks and gives him an innocent shrug. "Maybe I should arrest you" He whispers, his lips ghosting over Jeremy's. Jeremy tries to connect them but Christian keeps pulling away.
"Please don't arrest me, Mr. Police Officer" Jeremy whispers. "I'll do anything" Christian groans as his words send shock waves straight to his cock.
"Mmm, I don't know" Christian whispers. "Wearing something like this" Christian's hand slips between them. He palms Jeremy discretely knowing that they were still in public, though the teens around them were too drunk to care what they did. Jeremy presses his forehead against Christian's shoulder. "Knowing what it would do to me" Christian whispers in his ear. Jeremy whimpers and grinds into his hand. "Bad boys get arrested and fucked"
Jeremy turns his head and lifts it lightly to nip at Christian's neck. Christian moans removing his hand from Jeremy before he could explode in his pants. Jeremy whines lifting his head. Christian smirks and grips his chin, kissing him deeply.
"Jeremy!" Elena's voice brings Christian from his daze. His eyes widen and he steps away from Jeremy. Jeremy's face drops. He opens to stay something to Christian but the vampire disappears in the crowd.
"You weak dumbass" Christian growls hitting himself in the head.
Tonight he realized how dangerous Jeremy Gilbert is. With one kiss, Jeremy had Christian wrapped around his finger. With one kiss, Jeremy made Christian forget about everything. He hasn't fallen apart so quickly because of someone else for a long time and the thought, whether he would admit it or not, scared him.
He didn't want to get close to Jeremy. He feared if he did, then history would repeat itself. He couldn't go through it again. Last time he had gone through it, he turned his humanity off for decades. If it happened again, Christian could only imagine what would happen.
Christian walks out of the school and leans against the bricks. He takes some deep breaths regaining his control. He stands up and steps away from the brick wall. He goes to leave when a frantic voice reaches his ears.
"Vicki! Vicki! What the hell!?" Jeremy shouts. Christian tenses, his head snapping to the direction Jeremy's voice was coming from. "Oh, my god. No! Stop!" Christian growls and speeds off not caring if any human saw him.
"Vicki, no!" Elena shouted seeing Vicki feeding on Jeremy. A second later Christian appears. He grabs Vicki and throws her away from Jeremy.
"Bad move" Christian growls glaring at Vicki while standing in front of Jeremy protectively. Vicki growls acting more on instinct than logic. She speeds forward, the need for blood too overpowering.
Christian speeds forward and slams her against the bus. He doesn't hesitate to shove his hand into her chest gripping her heart. Stefan appears. His eyes widen at everything that's happening.
"Chris, don't!" Stefan tries to stop his brother but Christian doesn't listen. He rips Vicki's heart from her chest and tosses her body to the ground. He tosses her heart beside her body and smirks.
He turns around still smirking. He winks at his brother but his smirk falters when he sees the terrified and confused look on Jeremy's face. Pain strikes his heart when he realizes that Jeremy is terrified of him. He takes a step towards him and Jeremy scrambles backward. Christian freezes, his shoulders sagging.
"Chris," Stefan says but Christian disappears. He sighs and looks at Jeremy who's staring at Vicki's body.
"You're a fucking idiot" Christian growls appearing in the bathroom in the Boarding house. He scrubs the blood off of his hand furiously. He didn't regret killing Vicki but he did regret killing her in front of Jeremy.
The terrified look on Jeremy's face haunts him. No matter what he did, he couldn't forget it. He even tried thinking of him but Jeremy kept replacing his face.
In a fit of rage, Christian slams his fist into the mirror, shattering it. Christian sighs deeply. He looks at his fist and picks out of the glass before it could heal completely.
"Damn it" Christian growls going into his room. He quickly changes before speeding to the Gilbert house.
"What are you doing here?" Elena asks. "Haven't you done enough?" She snapped standing at the top of the steps glaring at Christian.
"I'm sorry, was I supposed to let her kill Jeremy?" Christian asks tilting his head.
"He's terrified out of his mind, he's grieving all over again because of you" Elena snapped.
"Again, was I supposed to let him die?" Christian growled walking towards her slowly. "I think the words you were looking for are thank you," He said sarcastically.
"Yeah, thank you for scaring him for life" Elena sassed back. Christian growls and goes to continue advancing her but Stefan appears between them.
"He didn't have a choice, she wasn't going to stop until one of you were dead" Stefan explains. Elena looks down at her feed before sitting down. Christian takes a breath calming down as well. He and Stefan walk onto the porch.
"He's a mess" Elena whispers. "I don't want him going through this again. He's just a kid" Stefan sits beside her while Christian looks into the house, listening to Jeremy's cries.
"Elena, what can I do? I.." Stefan sighs. "What can I do to help? I'll do anything"
"Can you make him forget?" Elena asks. Christian's head snaps to her.
"Elena.." Stefan sighs.
"Stefan, please" Elena begs. "I don't know how he'll ever get past this. I just want him to forget everything that happened" Elena told him.
"You can't just make him forget" Christian spat.
"Chris-" Stefan says but Christian glares at him.
"No!" He snapped. "You don't have a right to mess with his mind. You saw how that destroyed our family when Katherine did it, you think it's gonna have a positive effect?" He asks tilting his head. "You're not gonna take the grief away, Elena. All you're gonna do is make him forget why he's grieving. This isn't going to help him"
"He'll be terrified of you," Elena says. Christian clenches his jaw. "He won't understand why you did it, he'll want nothing to do with you," Elena says.
"Then you'll be getting what you want," Christian tells her. "Don't erase his memory, it'll do more harm than good"
"Why don't you let me decide what's best for my brother?" Elena snapped. "I know him better than you, I know this is what needs to happen"
"No, what needs to happen is for you to stop being a manipulative bitch" Christian growls. "I may not be the right person for Jeremy, I'll keep my distance but don't erase his memory" Christian pleads.
"It's what's best," Elena tells him. "He's had to grieve over our parents, I don't want him grieving over her too"
"I won't do it" Christian shakes his head. Elena looks at Stefan.
"If I did it, there's no guarantee that it would work... because of who I am. Because of how I live. I don't have the ability to do it right" Stefan sighs.
"I can do it" Christian whips around to Damon. "If this is what you want... I'll do it"
"It's what I want" Elena nods.
"Damon, don't" Christian grips his brother's arm.
"Don't make me snap your neck" Damon threatens quietly. Christian clenches his jaw pleading his brother. Damon merely raises an eyebrow causing Christian to reluctantly release Damon. "Don't worry, I'll leave the precious memories of your time together intact" Damon pats his back. Christian growls and snaps his neck.
"Oops" Christian mutters as Elena gasps covering her mouth. Christian smirks at Stefan and Elena. "Guess that leaves me"
"Chris" Stefan says warningly but Christian walks into the house anyways. He can hear Elena panicking to Stefan but tunes her out.
"Hey, handsome" Christian says appearing in Jeremy's doorway. Jeremy quickly looks up. He stands when he realizes it's Christian.
"Chris" He breathes. Christian frowns his eyebrows when he doesn't sense any fear from Jeremy. "You came back" He moves a few steps closer to Christian before stopping himself.
"I'm sorry you had to see that" Christian says entering the room.
"You protected me," Jeremy says. Christian slowly nods. "What are you?" He asks.
"You know, for someone who's supposed to be grieving and crying his heart out, you seem to be fine" Christian notes, avoiding his question. "Elena said you were pretty messed up about the whole... ordeal" Christian wonders around the room, Jeremy keeps his eyes on him.
"I feel a little shaken up" Jeremy admits. "I don't understand what happened but that's not what I was freaking out about" Jeremy says. Christian turns and gives him a look. "Ok, that's not the only thing I was freaking out about" Christian smirks slightly.
"Well, don't leave me hanging" Christian turns to him. "What's got you spooked?"
"That I might have lost you for good" Jeremy says looking away from him. Christian's eyebrows frown. "The way I reacted, the look on your face, how quickly you left... I was terrified I lost you forever" He whispers. Christian presses his lips together and looks down. "Have I?" He asks.
"I told you before" Christian whispers. "I don't do the boyfriend thing, not anymore" He whispers.
"So that's it? You just end it completely?" Jeremy asks marching up to him.
"It's better off that way. You saw what I did to Vicki, I'm no good for you" Christian says.
"You were protecting me. I may not understand what happened or what's going on but I know she would have killed me if you didn't help me, if you didn't save me" Jeremy says.
"I liked killing her" Christian says stepping closer to him. "I enjoyed it. I loved the feeling of ripping her heart from her chest. I would do it again, even if she wasn't posing a threat to anyone. Want to know why? Because I'm a killer, Jeremy. I enjoy the hunt, the thrill of the kill. I've murdered, maimed and destroyed more lives than you can fathom and I'm not going to stop."
"I watched you kill someone I'm friends with and I still want to be with you, you think you can scare me away?" Jeremy asks tilting his head. Christian growls and reveals his vampire face, hissing at Jeremy. Jeremy gasp and stumbles back. Christian looks at him as if he's proved a point. "Show me again" Jeremy says moving closer to him. Christian frowns his eyebrows. "I want to see it"
"Look, Jeremy-"
"Just show me" Jeremy snapped. Christian raises his eyebrows at him but does as told. He slowly brings the face back for Jeremy to see. Jeremy moves closer to him. "So I guess it's safe to say you're a vampire" He mutters. Christian nods. "Sexy" Jeremy whispers pulling him into a kiss.
Christian relaxes within Jeremy's hold. He speeds the human against one of the walls, pinning him there. Jeremy's heart swells hoping that this is a good sign, hoping that he isn't going to lose him.
"I need you to trust me" Christian whispers.
"I do" Jeremy answers without hesitation. Christian smiles and caresses the side of his face.
"You're going to forget everything that happened tonight starting from the moment I left you in the hallways at the high school up to the moment I leave this room. You will forget you saw me kill Vicki, you will forget the moments we shared in this room. You had too much to drink after I left. You blacked out and Elena brought you home. You will wake up not knowing what happened to Vicki, all you know is that she probably skipped town." Christian compels before passionately kissing him. Once Christian pulled away and sped out of the room, Jeremy went to bed and fell asleep triggering Christian's compulsion. "It's done, I hope you're happy" Christian spat at Elena.
"Thank you" Elena whispers. Christian simply speeds away.
