*Chapter Forty Three* {Catch Me if You Can}

"Who was that?" Christian asks from the bed. The sheets cover the lower half of his body keeping his upper half exposed. Elijah turns towards him after hanging up the phone. Christian notices that he's in the process of dressing himself. "What's going on?" Christian asks sitting up.

"Nothing important, go back to sleep," Elijah says quietly. Christian doesn't listen. He tries to rub the tiredness from his eyes before looking back at him.

"Who's calling you so early in the morning? A mistress I don't know about?" Christian teases. Elijah smirks shaking his head.

"No, it was..." Elijah hesitates. "It was no one,"

"Don't lie, Elijah," Christian says sternly. The Original sighs heavily as he begins to do his tie.

"It was Niklaus, he was catching me up on what's happening," Elijah tells him. Christian looks at him and slowly nods.

"Anything needing your immediate attention?" Christian asks hesitantly.

"No," Elijah shakes his head with a small smile. "I'm not going anywhere," Christian eyes him for a moment.

"Then why are you getting dressed instead of spending the morning in bed with me?" Christian asks tilting his head.

"Perhaps I have something planned that is in need of my immediate attention," Elijah says mysteriously. Christian stares at him for another few moments before grinning. "You'll have the day to yourself but the night is mine,"

"I look forward to it, Sunshine,"  Christian winks while falling back onto the mattress. Elijah appears beside him. The Original bends down and kisses him lightly.

"I love you," Elijah mumbles against his lips.

"And I love you," Christian whispers back. Elijah smiles kissing him once more before leaving the room. Christian sighs relaxing against the mattress more.

When night fell, Christian searched the club for Elijah only for Elijah to find him. Christian grins allowing the Original to take him out of the club.

"Tired of spending your nights under the flashing lights and the loud music?" Christian asks with a slight smirk.

"I thought that tonight we would have a more peaceful setting," Elijah suggested. Christian smiles nodding.

"A night under the stars," Christian says looking up at the sky. "Romanic," Elijah pulls Christian in front of him and against his chest.

"I'd hope so," Elijah mutters. "A night just to ourselves,"

"And what do you have planned for such an intimate night?" Christian wonders. Elijah smiles raising his hand. He pinches Christians chin pulling his head closer. The two share a soft kiss before pulling away.

Elijah silently leads him down the street. A stroll through the night isn't much but it allowed the pair to escape the world for a moment of time. Elijah started the conversation and the two told stories about their time when they were apart. Christian would ask questions and Elijah would tell him the whole truth, leaving nothing out even if it was hard to tell.

Eventually, the two ended at an empty café. The café was normally filled at this time of night but they found it completely empty, Christian assumed this was Elijah's doing.

"This place," Christian whispers moving away from Elijah. "It feels familiar,"

"You might recognize it from New York," Elijah says. Christian turns towards him. "It's not a chain, back then there was only the one,"

"This is the café, isn't it?" Christian asks hesitantly.

"Not the exact one but yes," Elijah nods. "This is where I first confessed my love for you, where I realized I never wanted to part from you, and-"

"Where you asked me to marry you," Christian whispers. Elijah nods slowly.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you again," Elijah reassures him. Christian relaxes slightly but continues to stare at Elijah.

"Why did you bring me here?" Christian asks him.

"It's been many decades since I've last been in a café like this," Elijah tells him. "But my thoughts haven't changed more wavered." Elijah walks up to him. "I still love you and I still do not want to part from you... if the time comes, when you're ready, I will marry you"

"Elijah," Christian sighs. Elijah's face falls slightly.

"It's not what you want," Elijah says taking a step back.

"I don't know what I want," Christian exasperates. "Why does it always have to be all or nothing with you?" Christian snapped. "Why are you always pushing me for an answer? Pressuring me?"

"I don't mean to," Elijah says. "It's just... I forced you away once and now I have you in my grasp, I'm afraid of losing you once again but this time there will be no hope of getting you back"

"Have you ever heard the phrase 'the tighter you hold onto something, the more it slips away'?" Christian asks him. "Let me breathe, Elijah" He pleads. "Stop holding onto the fear and these expectations. Just let it happen" He whispers walking up to Elijah. "I love you and you love me, let that be enough,"

"You will always be enough," Elijah says gathering him in his arms. "I don't mean to hold so tight, forgive me"

"Not wanting to lose me is nothing to be ashamed of, Elijah" Christian whispers. "Just relax," Christian pleads.

"I will," Elijah sighs relaxing against him. Christian smirks giving him a soft kiss.

"Now, if my memory serves me right, they have good food here" Christian winks leading Elijah to one of the tables where they enjoyed a peaceful yet entertaining meal. "Would you care to join me for a bite?" Christian asks towards the end of dinner while eyeing their compelled waitress.

"All yours, Angel" Elijah nods.

"Very well, excuse me" Christian smirks leaving his seat. Seeing as he, Elijah and the waitress are the only ones in sight, Christian doesn't bother hiding the fact that he's feeding from her. "Very tasty" Christian whispers letting her body drop to the floor. Christian turns to Elijah with a blood thirsty smile.

In a heartbeat, Elijah is in front of him. Christian smirks pulling the older vampire into a greedy kiss. Elijah moans at the taste of her blood on his lips.

"Have you had enough fun outside of our home?" Christian whispers against his lips. Elijah growls gripping Christian tighter. Christian smirks and leads him out of the café leaving the compelled cook to deal with the dead body.

When they made it back to the club, the weaved through the people and up to their room. The door barely closed before the pair were tearing at each other's clothes. Christian's phone rings in his pocket but the two ignore it as they travel to the bed.

Christian moans from underneath Elijah as the older vampire grinds his body against him. Again, Christian's phone rings but they simply continue to ignore it. However, when it rings for a third time Christian speeds towards it and answers the phone.

"This better be good," Christian snapped.

"Damon's trying to kill me," Jeremy's voice rings through the phone. Christian tenses pinching his eyebrows together.

"What?"

"Kol compelled Damon to kill me, he can't fight it off and I'm barely escaping him," Jeremy breathes heavily through the phone. "I don't know what to do," Christian growls collecting his clothes.

"Stay alive, I'll be there soon" Christian says hanging up.

"Something in need of your attention?" Elijah asks. Christian turns towards him feeling guilty as he clothes himself.

"I'm sorry," Christian whispers. "I have to go,"

"You don't," Elijah shakes his head.

"I do," Christian insists pulling his pants on. "I won't be long, just have to knock some sense into my brother. I'll make it up to you, I promise"

"Christian, stay with me," Elijah says speeding towards him. "Let them figure out what to do, let them solve their own problems. You don't need to get involved, I don't need to get involved, let's just stay here, together"

"I'm sorry," Christian whispers kissing him softly. "Jeremy is on his own, they hardly have his back nor do they look after him. I have to help but I promise you, Elijah. I will come back"

"Fine," Elijah whispers sighing. "Do what you have to do,"

"Don't be cross with me," Christian pleads. "I love you, I will come back, trust me" Elijah smiles a bit and nods.

"I do trust you," Elijah kisses him softly. "I love you and be safe," Christian nods before hesitantly leaving the room.

Christian climbs in his car and speeds back to Mystic Falls hoping he could get there before anything happened to Jeremy. On his way, he picked up his phone and called Kol.

"Have you come to your senses on who the better brother is yet, mate?" Kol asks instantly.

"What is this nonsense about you compelling Damon to kill Jeremy?"

"Oh, not you too," Kol grumbles. "Why do you care? He's your ex, remember?"

"Well, it seems I have a hard time letting go of my ex's" Christian grumbles.

"There's too much to explain, just know that his death is necessary and I can't be the one to do it," Kol tells him.

"I hope you know that I won't let you do this," Christian tells him. "I will protect him,"

"How can you- Don't tell me you're actually coming back to Mystic Falls for this boy" Kol spat.

"Yes, I am," Christian nods. "I'm not going to let you kill him, Kol. I don't care what your reasoning is" He growls.

"You can try and stop me, Christian, but you won't succeed" Kol tells him calmly. "There's an evil you can't begin to comprehend and Jeremy's death is the only way of stopping it"

Christian clenches his jaw and purses his lips. Without saying anything else, Christian hangs up. The vampire growls and drives even faster to Mystic Falls.

Once he reaches his the town he randomly parks his car and climbs out. He speeds from the vehicle and begins his search for Jeremy. He finds Jeremy's scent quickly. An uneasy feeling settles in his stomach when he picks up on Damon's scent as well.

"Did you miss the part where I said I'm compelled? Don't stop!" Damon shouts from within the tomb that Christian stands outside of. A moment later Christian can smell Jeremy's blood. "Seriously? You're being hunted by a vampire and now you're bleeding?" Damon growls.

Christian enters the tunnel speeding towards his brother and Jeremy. He only searches for a few moments before finding them. He doesn't hesitate to snap Damon neck giving them a moment to breathe.

"Perfect timing," Jeremy gasps for breath. Christian smirk winking at him.

"You call, I answer" Christian smirks. He leans down and snaps his brothers neck again just because he can. "Let's get you out of here and then you can explain to me exactly what the hell is going on,"

"Alright," Jeremy agrees already feeling safer with Christian by his side. The two of them make their way back to the Gilbert house where Christian calls Stefan.

"Chris?" Stefan asks obviously confused.

"Our troublesome brother is currently laying on the dirt floor with his neck broken. Mind picking him up and locking him away so he can stop trying to kill Jeremy?"

"Oh, sure" Stefan says easily. "I assume you're back in town,"

"Yeah, you guys seemed pretty helpless without me," Christian smirks turning towards Jeremy. "I'm about to get caught up on what's been happening. I'll catch up with you later," He says before hanging up. "Start talking," Christian demanded.

Jeremy sighed before starting with the night Elena died, the night Christian left Mystic Falls. He explained the sire bond, he explained Conner and the discovery of The Five. Christian found it extremely interesting how Jeremy is now a supernatural hunter whilst his sister is a vampire. He wouldn't deny the fact that the difficult times between Jeremy and Elena didn't bring a small grin to his face.

"Kol's scared that at the end of all this, I'm going to end up awakening some dude named Silas"

"Silas?" Christian asks.

"Yeah, heard of him?" Jeremy asks but Christian shakes his head. "Apparently he's a bad dude but Klaus and Rebekah insist that he's purely fiction,"

"Well, technically we're fiction to the mortals," Christian shrugs. "It wouldn't surprise me if what's fiction to us turns out to be true as well,"

"If it does turn out to be true, then we're all screwed" Jeremy tells him. Christian sighs leaning back in his seat.

"Well, let's worry about one thing at a time." Christian tells him. "And that's my brother trying to kill you,"
