*Chapter Forty* {The Departed}
"Oh, God" Christian grumbles rubbing his face. He sits up and cracks his neck before finally noticing the body beside him. He tenses when he sees it's Kol. Instantly he remembers the night before.
He remembers ignoring Kol's advances, like he had been the entire time Kol's been in Boston. However, something in him snapped when Kol started dancing and kissing the male employee. He was hit with this overwhelming feeling of not only jealousy but possessiveness.
For over a week, Kol has been with Christian. Not romantically but he was always there. Christian had Kol's attention and they did practically everything together. Then to see him giving someone else the attention he had secretly wanted, and enjoyed, he grew insanely jealous.
However, that didn't change the fact that Kol is a Elijah's brother. It was hard to get over that fact and to trust him. He hated how much he compared Kol to Elijah. He hated how he compared everyone to Elijah. Although, Elijah is his first love, hardly anyone forgets their first love.
For over a week Christian has been ignoring Kol because that what he thought was the right thing to do. Christian knew he still needed time to focus on himself. He didn't need to worry about anybody else. While focusing on himself is what he needed, that isn't what he wanted.
"God damnit" Christian mutters climbing out of the bed. He pulls his boxers and pants before grabbing himself a drink.
"Pour me one while you're at it, darling" Kol rasps from under the covers. Christian turns his head slightly to acknowledge Kol before doing as he asks. "Well, I must say, you do not disappoint" Christian couldn't help but to smirk while returning to the bed. He hands Kol the glass. "Chris, it's like 8 in the morning, and you already have that 'I'm-a-thousand-miles-away' look on you face" Kol points out.
"Got a lot on my mind" Christian says simply before drowning his drink. He stands up and walks back to the alcohol.
"What could possibly be on your mind this early in the morning? Other than the thought of breakfast?" Kol wonders leaning against the headboard. "Don't tell me that you're already regretting last night,"
"I don't regret it, necessarily" Christian answers after a few moments.
"Don't read too into it," Kol advises him. "We fucked, big deal" He shrugs. Christian turns towards him with a curious look. "You've been around teenagers too long. You fuck them and they expect you to marry them. I'm not looking for anything, you're not looking for anything. I wanna fuck, you wanna fuck. It's that simple."
"You don't expect anything to come out of this?" Christian asks slowly.
"I've been daggered for 100 years," Kol reminds him. "You're great, darling, but I'm not exactly ready to stick my hand in just one pie if you know what I mean" Kol winks.
"What happened to not wanting anyone else?" Christian raises his eyebrows.
"You're not ready for that. If I've learned anything this past week and a half, it's that you don't want a relationship." Kol shrugs nonchalantly. "We'll be alive for an eternity, I can wait until you're ready and then seduce you" Kol winks. "Last night I was just wanting a taste of the goods, and darling let me tell you," Kol licks his lips. "I like it"
"Well, that's good," Christian nodded. "I do have a reputation to uphold anyways." Christian winks at him. Kol laughs slightly.
Christian sips on his drink while Kol climbs out of bed and pulls his own underwear and pants on. He watches the half naked Original walk up to him. Kol grabs his shirt and pulls it on before standing in front of Christian.
"Don't get me wrong, darling" Kol whispers grabbing his chin. "I do intend on having more than just one night with you but as I said, we have eternity" He mutters before kissing his lips. Christian slowly kisses him back. "Until next time," Kol whispers.
"Are you leaving?" Christian asks.
"The world certainly has changed since I was last in it," Kol says walking towards the door. "I'll be around. My number is in your phone, call me if you want a good time" Kol winks before walking out the door.
Christian felt as if a weight was lifted off of his shoulders. Kol wasn't expecting anything, not yet at least. He had stuck around until he got what he wanted and left, Christian didn't feel used because a part of him trusted Kol when he said he would be back for more. Christian couldn't help but to want more but knew it would have to wait. He has a business to run and thoughts to get straight before he could fully commit to someone else.
Once Kol had left it took a few days before Christian return to his routine. He missed the Original more than he'd care to admit. Kol brought a spark of unpredictability that made his day more enjoyable. Now that he's gone Christian couldn't help but wish for something to break up the repetition.
He got his wish about a week later when Jeremy called. His ex-boyfriend filled him in on all the new drama in Mystic Falls. Apparently Alaric had been turned into a very powerful vampire-vampire hunter. He also learned that Elena's life is linked with Alaric's. To say that Jeremy is under stress is an understatement.
While the teenage boy didn't outright ask Christian to come back to Mystic Falls, the vampire knew what Jeremy wanted. Half of him wanted to stay in Boston, the half that was still annoyed with Damon and the half that was tired of the Mystic Falls drama, but another half wanted him to go. He did miss Jeremy and he did tell the boy that he would be there for him if Jeremy needed him. This would be a good opportunity to step away from the constant repetition.
"You came," Jeremy whispers opening the door to find Christian standing there.
"You sounded pretty hopeless without me," Christian teased. Jeremy smiles and doesn't hesitate to bring him into a hug. Jeremy instinctively nuzzles his head into Christian's neck causing the vampire to tighten his grip around him. He knew the position was more intimate than usual friends but it felt natural for them.
"Thank you" Jeremy whispers.
"I told you I'd be here for you," Christian whispers to him. "Have you eaten?" He asks pulling away only when Jeremy stepped back. Slowly, Jeremy shakes his head. "Come on, then" Christian enters the house and walks towards the kitchen. "So, anything new that happened since our last talk?"
"Well, I had to take Elena to the hospital but then Damon told me to bring her home" Jeremy tells him. Christian didn't care enough to ask why Elena had to be taken to the hospital. He places a sandwich in front of Jeremy. "Klaus is desiccated and Alaric has been on my back to get the location of where he is."
"Have you told him?" Christian asks. Jeremy shakes his head.
"Christian," Stefan says slightly shocked as he walks into the kitchen. He had been upstairs with Elena when he heard his brother. "What are you doing here?"
"Giving some moral support. You do know Elena's not the only one dealing with problems and under stress, right?" Christian questions raising an eyebrow. Stefan glances at Jeremy who silently eats his sandwich. A few moments later Elena is answering the door and Matt is walking in. The two humans go into the living room to talk. "I hear you guys have yourself in a bind with Alaric and the Originals"
"Nothing we can't handle" Stefan shrugs. Christian scoffs.
"Let me guess, Damon's not the only one uncertain about where my loyalties lie?" Christian eyes his brother.
"You do what's best for yourself, you always have" Stefan comments.
"Because I've only ever had myself" Christian snipped. Stefan doesn't respond. "Don't worry, I'm not on anyone's side necessarily" Christian reassures him. "Simply here to make Jeremy feel like he has someone who has his back."
"We can look after Jeremy" Stefan assures his brother.
"Is that before or after the round the clock supervision on Elena?" Christian asks tilting his head. "Look, I won't interfere with whatever idiotic plans you may or may not have. I'm a peaceful bystander" Christian grins. Stefan eyes him for a moment but hesitantly nods.
There's another knock at the door. Stefan looks at his brother one more time before going to answer it. Jeremy glances at Christian who rolls his eyes.
"Elijah," Stefan says after opening the door. Christian closes his eyes and curses in his mind. Of course, Elijah would come at the same time Christian is here.
"Hello, again" Elijah responds before entering the house.
When Christian told Elijah to leave, he didn't think he'd ever see him again. Yet almost a month later, they in the same house and about to be in the same room. This is just the kind of luck Christian has.
"Christian, I didn't know you were here" Elijah says the shock in his voice telling Christian that he was speaking the truth. Elijah had every intention to be respectful of Christian's wishes.
"Last minute visit" Christian shrugs hating himself for staring at the Original. He felt slightly awkward about the fact that he's obviously checking Elijah out when a little over a week ago he was fucking Kol.
"I see," Elijah whispers before taking a seat.
Elena, who wasn't exactly happy that Christian was in the house, Stefan, and Matt enter the kitchen as well. All of them wanting to hear what Elijah had to say. Stefan even called Damon and put him on the speaker phone.
"All we need is to take the stake away from him" Elijah explains his plan for Alaric. "Once he's been disarmed, the weapon's in my possession, my family will scatter the ends of the Earth and Alaric will follow us"
"And you'll just run?" Stefan asks.
"If there's one thing Mikaelson's are good at, it's running" Christian jabs. Elijah spares him a soft glance before nodding slowly.
"We've done it before. Klaus and Rebekah spent the better part of a thousand years evading my father. What's another half century while Elena is able to live out the rest of her natural life?" Elijah suggests.
"We've finally stopped him, Elijah" Elena explains. "After everything he's done to us, I can't just let you bring him back"
"I give you my word, Elena" Christian scoffs lightly wondering how true Elijah's word is. "I will not revive Klaus," Elijah continues having heard Christian but electing to ignore him. "within yours nor even within your children's lifetimes. Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners"
"Why should she trust you?" Matt asks. "All you've done is screw her over"
"And for that, I am deeply ashamed. But know this, she could have been dead the instant I walked through that door tonight, so Elena, I leave it to you to make the decision whether to trust me or not." Elijah says.
"Not!" Damon shouts from the phone. "Hello? Did that concussion give you brain damage? His lunatic siblings will kill you the first chance they get!"
"Rebekah and Kol-" Christian shifts slightly at Kol's name. "will honor the terms. If you return Klaus' body to us, Elena will come to no harm" Elijah promises. "Do we have a deal?"
"No!" Damon shouts again. "No, no, no, no! Did I mention no!?" Christian rolls his eyes at his brother's dramatics.
"Elena, it's up to you" Stefan says respectfully.
"Oh, come on!" Damon groans.
"Why do you want Klaus' body?" Elena asks.
"He's my brother. We remain together"
"We have a deal" Elena nods. Elijah smiles in satisfaction. Jeremy sighs and leaves the house for some air. Matt slowly follows after him.
"So, how are we going to get Klaus' body and the stake away from Alaric?" Christian asks.
"My sister, Rebekah, is on her way to Klaus. She's meeting Damon there," Elijah tells him.
"Jeremy says Alaric is trying to get the location from him." Christian tells them. "Get Jeremy to tell Alaric a different location. Lead him right to us,"
"The woods," Elena decides. "It's secluded. It'll give you the privacy to get him"
"I'll deal with Alaric" Elijah says standing up.
"I have experience fighting older vampires," Christian chimes in. Elijah glances at him knowingly. "You could use my help."
"If you wish," Elijah says nodding. Christian hesitates but nods before going to tell Jeremy the plan. Jeremy calls Alaric and tells him where to 'find Klaus' before hanging up.
"He bought it" Jeremy tells them.
"Ready?" Elijah asks Christian.
"What? Where are you going?" Jeremy asks his ex-boyfriend.
"I'll meet you there," Christian tells him. Elijah looks between the two of them before disappearing. "It'll be easier to take on Alaric if Elijah has someone to help him."
"Are you sure this is a good idea? Alaric is skilled enough to kill Originals, are you sure he won't kill you?" Jeremy asks nervously. Christian smirks slightly.
"I promise you, Elijah and I together are nearly unbeatable." Christian explains. "I'll be alright, I promise you"
"Come back to me," Jeremy says sternly. "I know we're not together but that doesn't mean I don't care about you. I need to know you're safe, come back"
"I'll be back, I promise" Christian whispers hugging him. "Everything is going to work out fine, you'll see"
