Michael proposed to Lisa Marie Presley by asking her on the phone "If I asked you to marry me, would you do it?". Lisa said yes, and after a few moments pause Michael said that he had to go to the bathroom. When he came back, he explained to Lisa that his love for her was genuine, and that she had to believe him.

In 2010, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lisa also said that Michael proposed formally in the library at Neverland, getting down on his knees and pulling out a 10-carat diamond ring.
