INTERVIEW WITH JASMINE_BELL
Hello ! Thank you for stopping by !
Hello! Thank you for letting me part of this interview! :)
So tell us a little about yourself:
My pen name is Jasmine Bell, but my real name is Jessica. I'm 23 years old, living in United States, more particularly in Southern California. My goal is to be an elementary school teacher and specialize in Special Education. I have a dog at home named Mikey!
Oooh, I love dogs ha ha. And Jasmine is a beautiful name, isn't it? That's a very interesting goal, too! Thanks for sharing! Let's get started with the questions :
1 – When and how did you fall in love with writing ?
I would honestly say that I fell in love with writing at around the age of 13 or 14. But I was in middle school at that time. I have kept many diary entries around with me since I was around 13 as well, and my diary entries still keep growing! I guess that was the age where I started to explore my love for writing. It was one thing to keep a diary and it's totally different when writing a fiction novel. I guess you can say the more I wrote one story, the more passionate I became with writing. I didn't think I would see myself as a writer, but as I continued with the story I was working on, the more my ideas started bouncing around my head. And now I very much enjoy writing while having my characters running around in my head.
2 – Ooh, me too! I love visualizing what I write like a movie ha ha! What's your favorite work to date ?
Currently I'm working on two stories. The first one is Love, Revenge, and Hope: Hidden Identities (which is the story that I have started since I was 13) and The Reformer
3 – Interesting titles! What are they about ?
Hidden Identities is about coming of an age novel about two teenage girls, Emma White, and Veronica Black. They both like the same guy at their school, Nick Storm. However there is some weird stuff going on in their teenage lives, and it might have something to do with one being an half-angel, Emma, and the other being a half demon, Veronica.
With The Reformer, A college bound girl named Sophia Augustine is hard of hearing, but she is also a part of a group called Reformers, which they are known for toying with the past, when in reality they want to change the past for a better future. Sophia goes back in time, but when she does, she changes the past, and that could also mean that she would change the future as well.
4 – Oooh they sound interesting! Why do you like them better than your other works, if you have written other stories ?
Wow, ugh that is such a hard question. I honestly love all of my stories. They are all so different from each other. One is about angels and demons, while the other is about time traveling. But I would say Love, Revenge, and Hope: Hidden Identities is my favorite and it is the story I spent the longest time on.
5 – Sorry, ha ha! But I see what you mean, we all love all our works. What inspired you to write The Reformer and Hidden identities?
Well for the angel and demon story, honestly they came more from many of my life experiences, and it just started to evolve from there. I liked the idea of there was angels and demons roaming around us, but at the same time, I wanted my story to be relatable to everyone so that at some point the readers could understand the main character or more than one.
As for The Reformer, I was actually inspired to write this one while I was traveling to Austria, Prague, and Germany. I have seen so many pocket watches around while walking around the tourist places. As for the hard of hearing part, I wanted to write about a story of girl who has struggled all her life with the disability. There are not many stories that have the main girl who has a disability. In fact, they are very rare to find. I wanted to show that even though a girl has a disability; she is just as strong as my other female leads in my other stories.
6 – That's true, not many stories have a main character with a disability. Personally, I would be too worried of seeming disrespectful or not portraying it right, so I prefer not to. But who knows, maybe one day... I salute you! Is it original or a fanfiction?
Both of the stories are originals.
7 – Which character d'you love most? Why?
Ha ha Wow! Tough question. But in terms of each of my stories, I will explain which one:
With Hidden Identities, I would honestly say that I love Veronica Black. People might be surprised why I didn't pick Emma, which I do love her in a very relatable way. But with Veronica, she is such a badass girl. There are so many emotional levels to her. While she is crazy in love with Nick, she is still willing to boss around Emma to the end of time, and be a total bitch. It's always fun trying to play with the villain of the story, and I was able to develop such a sympathetic character for the villain. You will start to see why she becomes so engrossingly evil as the story progresses, and it's amazing to see that.
For The Reformer, I would have to say Sophia, my main character. I have recently started to write about her story, but I always feel that I'm always learning about her as I continue to write this story along. I can see her being a representation of a strong female character for deaf and hard of hearing community.
8 – Again, sorry '^_ ^ ha ha! Which character did you like writing least? Why?
Hmm for Hidden Identities, I would have to say Will and Aaron, because it's hard for me to find out who they are besides that they are both Nick's friends.
The Reformer I would say my least favorite character to write about at the moment is maybe two girls in the beginning, Melody and Alice. I haven't figured out how will they be important in the story other than they are Chloe's friends. But maybe that might change, we'll see!
9 – Are any of your characters inspired by real people around you?
Haha actually both The Reformer and Hidden Identities are all inspired by real people around me. I will say some of my characters do represent my family and my friends, and others are those who I have came across in my lifetime.
10 – Wow, cool :-). If there was one thing and one person you could bring to life from your book, who and which would it be?
Only one character from my story! That's hard! haha I kind of want Veronica to come out of my story. But then again, she would cause a lot of trouble in our world. Well, when you read the story, you will understand. Veronica is someone you REALLY don't want to mess with.
Thanks for your time!
