Chapter 17 The Beaming
POV: Scott
I called Donna and she was good with Zelda's plan. I wasn't. But if letting Zelda go out with Cisco by herself was my only other choice, I had to go along with Zelda's suggestion. In high school, the girls were all over Cisco like ice cream melting on a lava cake and he was even more handsome now.
Even if Zelda was not my soulmate and she wasn't interested in me, I still liked her as a friend. And even though Cisco was also my friend, I couldn't let him gain the affection of Zelda. He was a criminal for God's sakes. I had to find a way to tell her.
So, that evening, I drove all of us to a nice restaurant where things went pretty much as you would expect. Cisco drank whiskey. The girls and I drank wine just like the song said. Cisco told tales of our childhood. He was always the hero, and I was the comic relief. Zelda and Donna both listened enthralled. It was high school all over again.
After dinner we went back to the fortune-teller's house. This time the gypsy was not shocked by our auras. In fact, she was even waiting for us with five chairs around her table.
"How did you know we were coming and that there would be four of us?" I asked.
"I am a fortune-teller, you know," she said defensively. Then she laughed and said, "Also, your friend texted me you were coming. Do you have the book with you? It made things so much easier last time."
I handed her the book. She again placed it in the center of the table. We all sat around it and joined hands.
"I see you found the fourth piece of your puzzle," she said indicating Cisco.
"What do you mean fourth piece? I asked.
"Your friend has the same multicolored aura linked with you three by the same gray background. He has clearly shared your past lives."
"Ooooh we have to ask your grandmother about this," Zelda squealed excitedly.
"You guys realize I have no idea what you all are talking about," Cisco said with a chuckle.
"I suspect, it will all make sense once we have the séance," Zelda assured him.
"Then let us begin," added our host.
We went silent and awaited her trance. Only, nothing happened. After several minutes she spoke "Well, apparently, the book isn't going to help us this time. I'm going to have to call directly to your grandmother. What is her name?"
"Carmen. Carmen Isabella Fuentes," I answered.
The gypsy finally put herself into a trance and called out, "Carmen, Carmen Isabella Fuentes. Your grandson needs to speak with you." There was a brief silence and then her head jerked back, and the voice of my grandmother spoke, "Scotty, we have to stop meeting like this." Nana was always trying to be funny.
"Nana, we have some more questions, and Cisco is with us tonight. You remember Cisco, don't you?"
"Of course, I remember Cisco. He was such a nice little boy. It is a shame. Why did you have to grow up Cisco?"
Cisco was startled hearing my grandmother's voice saying his name. He eventually got his wits about him and said, "I'm sorry Mrs. Fuentes, but I didn't really have a choice."
"We always have choices, Cisco. And you have certainly made some bad ones, haven't you?"
"Yes mam," Cisco answered sounding like a contrite child. Realizing how he sounded, he added in a more dignified and pensive voice, "I suppose I have."
"You've made some virtuous ones too. That good kid is still in there. We don't want what happened to your brother to happen to you."
Cisco's brother was killed by the Sullivans in a gang war. I suspect the reason my dad sent Cisco to find me was to protect him. Cisco was more than willing to be on the front line in a war with the Sullivans.
"Cisco, you take care of yourself. Scotty, you do the same. There is much danger ahead for you," Nana warned us. There was a pause then Nana continued a bit cross, "Scotty why are you keeping me here?"
"Like I said, we have more questions. I mean, it is not like you have some place better to be is there?"
"In fact, Mr. Smarty-pants there is. For as long as you need me, I have to stay in this sort of limbo. You are keeping me from beaming up to my next life.
"Scotty, I can't answer any more of your questions. You are on your own now. There is nothing more I can do. I don't want to hang around any longer. You must beam me up Scotty," she finished with a chuckle. I wasn't sure what she found so funny.
"I miss you, Nana."
"I miss you too. Goodbye Scotty."
"Bye Nana." I wiped tears from my eyes. I think the others did too.
