Chapter Six

Cleo's POV

I waited until my shift was over at the marine park before I called Rikki, Bella, and Emma over to my house for the full moon tonight. I was lucky, my dad was taking Kim out for something she needed to have, so he allowed me to invite them over. Worried about the girls, I checked my phone to see the time. I had already set up all of the stuff to keep the moon away from us, but I needed the girls here in order to feel totally safe. Lewis's also suppose to be escorting then here-  My thoughts were quickly cut off by my doorbell. I anxiously jumped up and speed-walked down the stairs to the door. I opened it wide and ushered everyone in. "Guys, the moon's about to come up!" Rikki scoffed. "It's ok Cleo. We defeated Ava, there is no need to worry. I'm sure the moon won't bother us anymore." I was unsure, but let her comment slide. "So, what are we going to do tonight? Movie? Games? Gossip?" Bella was listing things off her fingers while we all sat down. I was next to Lewis on the couch when I mustered up the courage to talk. "Actually... guys, I need to tell you all something." I instantly had everyone's attention and I shifted awkwardly a little. "Umm, I was out swimming in the morning, you know, like I always do, when I saw some dolphins in my favorite coral reef. I went up to meet them, but they just ignored me. Which is weird because they have never not noticed me before." Rikki butted in. "Awe, is little Cleo mad she didn't get any attention?" She leaned over and lightly patted my head. I frowned and thought back to the moment. "No, they were just not noticing me. So, I followed them and they led me to a bunch of fish singing 'Under the Sea' to the guy sitting on the sea floor. He was actually laughing and singing along." Emma and Bella gasped while Lewis just stared at me, and I could tell Rikki didn't believe me. "No way. No human could ever sing underwater, heck, we can't even breathe underwater!" Bella shot Rikki a look while Emma looked annoyed. "Rikki! Just listen to Cleo, she was there, you know." Rikki mumbled and slumped into her chair. I rubbed the bridge of my nose and continued. "But anyway, when he saw me, he telepathically spoke to me, and we both went to the surface to talk after he dismissed the fish." Lewis had a bewildered look on his face. "No one can be telepathic, that's a myth." Bella raised an eyebrow at him. "And what are we, Lewis? Myths?" Emma cut in before Lewis could respond. "We can turn into mermaids Lewis, no normal person does that." He nodded and leaned back. "You have a point. Cleo, continue." I nodded and looked at the floor. "His name is Percy Jackson, and he is very secretive." I frowned. "I tried to figure out what he was, because it was obvious he wasn't human, but he said that if he told me, I might die." Everyone gasped, but I continued on with my tale. "He was completely dry in the water, and he didn't need to tread water in order to float, he looked like he was just standing, which doesn't make any sense, but that's what it looked like. I then noticed the time was almost to where I needed to be back and he offered to take me back to the beach." Lewis scoffed. "He would only slow you down." I nodded, brows furrowed. "Normally, yes, but he was much faster. If I had to guess, once he grabbed me, it was as if we were going four hundred miles an hour. We were on shore within seconds, and by on shore, I mean he was standing on the sand with me in his arms!" Emma and Bella looked mad. "How could he? We are way too heavy to lift, and what if people saw you?!" Rikki was amazed and I sighed. "Yeah. But the crazy thing is, people did see me. He had used some trick that caused everyone that looked at me to think I wasn't a mermaid, or something. A lady even winked at me. He then proceeded to do some weird magic that dried me off, and then he left, walking back into the surf." Rikki huffed in disbelief and Lewis had his thinking face on. Bella and Emma were just confused. "How could a human have those types of powers? He's not a mermaid, if he can go in water without turning into one, but then again, he could have learned how to control it..." Lewis was mumbling stuff to himself, but Emma and Bella silently nodded. "I don't see what the big deal is here. A guy with powers just helped Cleo, it's not like he's our next big enemy. If he kept Cleo from being found out, he could actually be an ally." Rikki shrugged and sank lower in her seat. Emma gave her a scolding look. "Because Rikki, if he found out about us, even though he helped Cleo once, something could change his mind and then he would become famous for exposing us mermaids." Bella glared along with Emma, but Rikki just sighed. "Okay, fine, I get it." I hummed in unease and shifted again. "He didn't help me once. He saw me the next day at my job in the marine park. He helped me by telling the dolphins to not purposely splash me. They were really nice the rest of the day." Lewis crinkled his brow and slung an arm around my shoulders. "He better not try to make a move on my girl." I laughed and kissed Lewis' cheek. The rest of the night we just talked about our relationships, school, family troubles, funny stories, and hilarious coincidences. Oddly enough, the moon didn't manage to spell us the whole night, though we did have a close call when my father came back in with Kim. I felt like we were missing something. I would soon find out just how right I was.
