Talking About The Future

Mike pov

Scott is obviously freaking out about the fact that I found Jeremy. It irritates me that he's so worked up over it. I don't see this as that big of a deal.

"Mike, do you like him or something?" Scott asked, crossing his arms.

I huffed softly and looked towards the bathroom door.

Of course I liked Jeremy. He's sweet and cute, I wouldn't have a reason not to like him.

I wish Scott would just calm down about this situation. It's not that big of a deal. I'm just trying to help.

"If you mean do I have a crush on him, then no. I like him as a friend and I just want to help." I replied, sounding a bit more defensive than I should have.

"You so do! You have a crush on him! That's why you promised!" He argued.

"Shut up Scott!" I snapped, feeling the heat on my face grow.

"Go home Scott, I'll deal with this on my own." I said, nudging him towards the door.

"Fine Mike, but we're gonna talk about this later." He said, walking out the door.

I sighed as the door closed and pinched the bridge of my nose. I decided it would be best to talk to Jeremy about what will happen in the future.

Jeremy sat up when I opened the door. He looked happy to see me, which would make this discussion a bit harder.

"H-Hi M-Mike." He greeted quietly, but with a happy tone.

"Hey Jeremy, uh, we should talk about, when you heal, what'll happen I mean..." I explained.

I saw his smile slowly fade to a frown as he looked to the side. I could tell this wasn't something he particularly wanted to talk about.

"O-Okay, u-um... S-So w-what will h-happen?" He asked, scooting closer to the wall of the tub.

"Well, I would like to keep my promise to you and keep you safe, but, I'm not exactly sure how that will work. I mean, you're a mermaid, I'm a human. You need water and I need land... And I don't want you to have to go, because I like you, but I just don't know how any of this is going to work..." I admitted quietly, rubbing the back of my neck.

"O-Oh, r-right... I-I um... I-I wish I c-could s-stay b-but... I d-don't know h-how, o-or if t-there's even a w-way to d-do it... I-I g-guess I'll h-have to g-go h-home..." He whispered softly, looking down at the floor.

"Well, could there be a way?" I asked.

He shrugged and sighed. He knew just as much about this situation as I did, which was nothing.

I don't want to lose Jeremy. I made him a promise to keep him safe. If there's a way for him to stay here, I'll figure it out...
