Hermione was exited, today she finally would get to meet a wizard, but not just any wizard no. She would meet Albus Dumbledore himself, greatest wizard of all times. From the moment she could talk and remember, her parents had told her that she was different from the other mere-folk. It took her some time for her to understand that it wasn't in a bad way, though she could tell her parents were a bit worried when they told her this. So at the age of 5 she was told that she could not only do mermaid magic, but also land magic, meaning magic of a witch, she of course though that they were joking since she had heard some elderly mere-folk couple talking about something similar a few weeks ago, a legend. A myth. That is until she got so upset that she made some cracks on the cave that they lived in.

Since that day, Hermione has been asking questions none stop about the wizarding world that, unfortunately her parents could not answer completely. To try and appease her, Helena and Derek Granger took her to the town nearby, making Hermione a bit nervous to walk on land but once she got used to it she felt accomplished, as much as possible and it work, for there was a small bookstore in said town and she loved to read, and the owner had no qualms in letting her read for hours on end. They also taught her about humans and her kind, History, Runes, Artimancy, and how to control her mermaid given powers; such as the power to control and bend water at will, communicate with sea creatures and they taught her how to sing, not like the Sirens, but to sing in a beautiful voice.

Now almost 11 years of age, she was swimming around the front of their home, full of energy waiting for her parents to come out so they could head over to the pier and meet Dumbledore.

"Mom! Dad! Hurry up!"

"Now now Hermione, be patient." Her mother soon came out, her brown hair was short and her eyes were blue, were as her father's were brown.

"I know mum, I just can't seem to stay still! I mean we get to meet Dumbledore!"

Derek chuckled as he swims towards his daughter and hugs her. "We know hun, let us be off, we will be a tad early but with you? That will look like we are half an hour late." Hermione pouted making her father laugh and her mother smile before they started swimming towards the pier, being careful of humans. Not many believed in mermaids anymore, but there were still some that did. Those that still believed, always set out to hunt them, and should they be succesful in catching or even harming a mermaid or merman, said creature had the right to retaliate in whatever way they saw fit, though they tried not to kill as much as possible.

They arrived at the docks and looked around before her parents got out first and then her. The moment they were out of the water and focusing a bit, their tails were replaced by legs. They walked towards a bench and they noticed a man standing beside it, looking at them.

He was pretty elderly, with a beard that reached his stomach. Grey hair almost as long as his beard, eyes a light blue with a glint in it that looked both smart as well as mischievous. What stood out the most was his clothes, they were robes, purple in color with some patterns as well. Hermione suddenly felt shy and stayed a step behind her father. Her father held her hand as they stopped before the elder man.

"Good morning, my Name is Derek Granger and this is my mate and wife Helena Granger. You must be Mister Dumbledore"

Said man smiled "Please, Call me Albus or Dumbledore if you will. It is a pleasure to meet you" he extends his hands and both adults shake it before his eyes land on Hermione "And you must be Miss Hermione Granger."

"Y-yes sir" she blushed at her voice cracking. Dumbledore smiled at her and nodded in her direction before looking around and taking out a long looking stick from his robes and giving a wave. The Grangers gasped as the bench turned into a picnic table with some shade for all of them to sit on. Hermione looked at the stick and realized it was a wand.

"That was amazing! Are you going to teach me magic? When can we start? Where should we go? What about other witches and wizards? Will I learn about their history? Are we-" she stopped and blushed when she saw Dumbledore chuckling and she looked down, embarrassed at her behavior. "I apologize, I didn't mean to sound so...you know"

"Ah Miss Granger, I find your questions and curiosity very refreshing, do not be ashamed to ask, but do take a breath in between child" he winked at her and she smiled a bit, still blushing. "To answer your questions, I will not be teaching you, rather my staff will. You see I am the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, there you will learn how to control your magic as well as how to use it. You'll learn the history of witches and wizards as well as other creatures. Its location is hidden I'm afraid, you will know when you get there."

"Sir, you keep saying 'when I go there' does that mean that I have to go to this school...away from my parents?" At the nod from the headmaster, Hermione turned to her parents, a bis sad and scared that she will have to be away from them to learn. "Did you know?"

"We had our suspicions hun, but think about it, you'll get to learn and make new friends as well."

"But I have to be in a body of water or I will get sick...or worse!" Hermione began to panic and shake a little, that is until she felt a warm and gentle hand on her shoulder. Turning she found a pair of warm and caring light blue eyes.

"At Hogwarts there is lake, The Black Lake which should be more than enough for you to be safe, also only I know of your secret, the only other one that I shall inform shall be your Head of House when you are Sorted." After he said that, Hermione got a little suspicious, and who could blame her.

"How did you know where to find us and about me?" She expected for the Headmaster to be taken aback but instead he smiled and leaned back, the twinkle in his eyes never fading.

"You see my dear, when a witch or wizard is born, no matter their heritage, Hogwarts automatically gets the name. As to how I found you, your lovely parents and I have exchanged a few owls." His explanation left Hermione baffled as she looked at her parents with an 'you've been keeping secrets from me' look, making all the adults chuckle. Adults have the right to keep secrets you know. "Know that I have explained how I knew about you, let me explain how the school will work. The term starts in September 1st, by the time you will be 11 already so do not worry. Two weeks before the term begins I will return and accompany all 3 of you to London to Diagon Alley and help you get some money and your materials as well as your wand. Unless of course you would like to do it by yourselves?"

The Grangers looked at each other and Derek answered "We would like to go by ourselves but thank you for the offer Albus. All we need are the directions on how to get there."

"Not a problem" He took out his wand and with a wave of it a small parchment appeared and he handed it to the Grangers "That is how you get to The Leaky Cauldron in London, it's a small pub owned by Tom, tell them that you need to get to Diagon Alley and he will help."

"Professor?"

"Yes Miss Granger?"

"What will I tell the other students? I mean I can't tell them that I am a mermaid can I?"

"That is up to you Miss Granger. As for what to tell them, there are classifications in the wizarding world when it comes to us. Muggles are what we call regular people, people with no magic. There are the Squib, which are children born from a magical family but have no magic themselves. The Pure-bloods, whose parents are both a witch an wizard. The Half-bloods, these are children that have one magical parent and a muggle or a muggle-born. Finally there are the Muggle-born, which are a witch or wizard born to non-magical parents."

Hermione took that all in and began to think as she looked at her parents. The she looked at her future Headmaster. "I'll have to tell them I'm a muggle-born" Hermione said and Albus nodded with a smile.

"You really are bright. Before I take my leave, here is the letter stating that you are an official student of Hogwarts as well as the list you may need. Do not worry about the books getting damaged, the moment you purchase them they will impervious to water." He hands Hermione her letter and she looks at it with excitement.

"Thank you Professor" Hermione said looking at him as they all got up and said their good bye's. Turning around the Grangers started to head home, a loud crack was heard. When Hermione turned, Albus Dumbledore was gone.

A/N I'm sorry it took me so long to upload, but here it is. Also Hermione's letter goes like this:

Miss Hermione Granger

Sandwich & Pegwell Bay

National Nation Reserve

I am pretty sure that there are no caves there but hey use your imagination here. Next chapter Diagon Alley, don't worry, Draco will come into play soon. Gotta have suspense ;)
