13. Every Man For Himself

She watched as everyone got out of her car, Victor grabbed her arm and dragged her into Kell's apartment. No one said anything as they headed to Kell's apartment and neither did Victor want to hear anyone talk. He slammed the door open and shoved Danny on the couch and slapped her.

"You fucking promised, damn it." Victor screamed at Danny, she didn't say anything. "Say something." She only touched her burning cheek, feeling the printed hand. Ian, Kell, and Kevin were everywhere in the room in an awkward silence not knowing what to do with themselves.

"What do you want me to say." She asked as tears filled her eyes but knowing better than to let them flow.

"Start from the part where you worked as a mercenary when we told you not to."

"But if I didn't, then you were all going to die." He was screaming at her but all that was stuck to her mind was the slap,it had thrown her back to the days with Gabriel. She remembered the first time Gabriel had slapped her. She was crying because she missed her mother, she wanted her mom but after a couple of days she stopped.

"When's mommy coming?" Gabriel lost it, he just slapped her, and accused her for his wife's death continuously for years.

"Are you even listening to what I'm saying?"

"No, sir." She answered as she watched him pace back and forth in anger.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing." She answered as she looked down at her hands.

"You don't know how much I wish you were dead this moment." She wanted to scream "Then why did you call 911?" but the words never made it out of her lips. " It's like you don't care for what I've done for your sorry ass this past months."

"I do." She whispered.

"No, you don't." She flinched as Victor threw the TV remote near her feet, the broken pieces flew everywhere.

"How do you know?" She asked. "I risked my worthless life just to save you and in return I get this." She got up and tried not to scream back. "You know I don't ask for anything."

"You said it yourself. Worthless life. You depend on me, I saved you from that drunkard." He stabbed his pointer finger into her temple. "You are a worthless piece of shit. A leech. I never wanted you." The tears started spilling. "You are nothing without me."

"Then if you don't want me, just say it." She dried her tears.

"I'm saying it! Heck when She told me she was pregnant, i left her. I killed her."

"Vic. No.". Ian tried to Victor up but there was no turning back, what was said could never be taken back or forgotten.

"You killed her?" She asked not able to understand what he had just said.

"I was the drunk driver."

"I will fucking kill you." She pulled out her switchblade and charged at Victor but he pinned her against the wall

"I'll kill you first." Danny dropped to the floor making Victor support her weight and in that little moment she kicked his stomach, stabbed his right shoulder and ran.

She parked her car three blocks away from Victor's house to make it difficult for them to spot it. While she was inside she used crazy glue and a duster can to seal the doors and windows from the inside. She closed the blinds and uncovered the hidden room but left it closed. She then emptied a duffel bag filled it with clothes, money, two pairs of shoes, ammo, and a notebook. She was zipping the bag when she heard the sound of two cars approach the house, she looked out the window. She purposely let herself be easily spotted in her room while they tried to get in the house. Victor used a crowbar to open the door before splitting up to look for Danny. Kell entered her room. He opened the closet door until he noticed her closing the door to her room, she locked the door before using her knife to break off the doorknob.Victor heard Kell shouting, he ran towards the secret door when the door slammed on his fingers. He then heard scraping sound above him, he tried to open the door but Danny had put the couch on top of it, trapping him in.

"Danny." Kevin held his arms over his head to show Danny that he meant no threat but Danny didn't believe him anymore.

"You knew." Tears started falling, she tried to dry them but they kept coming.

"I did." His sincere tone shattered her heart, why hadn't she noticed that about them.

"Then why did you guys take me in?" She tried to dry her tears.

"Because he felt bad. He wanted to atone for what he did to the two of you." He slowly approached her to hug her, to console her.

"Kevin is right." Ian walked into the living room, gun tucked under his belt, and stood in front of her as if to console a little kid. "He took you in because he felt guilty for your mother's death and for the style of life you had with Gabriel."

"You can go kiss my ass." She smiled. " People like us don't feel guilt." She used her switchblade, with one quick and swift move she stabbed Ian in his thyroid cartilage. She turned around and slashed Kevin's hand, she was about to attack again when she heard a hammer click. She threw herself to the right, before the bullet could hit her hip.

"And you just killed Kevin." She ran to the bathroom where she jumped out through the window, grabbed her bag on the ground and ran. Once she was on the sidewalk she only walked in the shadows to not attract any attention to herself. She let her into a man bun, lowered her jeans, hunched her back, and dried her tears. She also stole the neighbor's license plate and switched her's and drove off, not knowing where to go.

After driving until dawn arose she stopped at a small gas station in Ohio to fill her tank. While the she was waiting she brushed a loose lock off of her face and realized that she was still wearing her gloves.

"Hey, hottie. Are you from here?" She was ready to pull out her switchblade but resisted to do so until she was in actual danger.

"Excuse me?" She asked as she looked at a man around his early 30s, Caucasian, sandy hair, blue eyes, 6'2 height. She hadn't realized that she was making a profile until he smiled and held out his hand towards her.

"I'm Mathew. You can call me Matt."

"Stacey." She didn't shake his hand.

"Nice ride you got there."

"Yeah, yeah." Danny walked into the little store and ordered the man at the cashier to make her a sandwich.

"How old are you?" Matt followed Danny inside.

"Hey. Do you have any monsters or red bulls?"

"Check in the back." The man suddenly yanked Matt over the counter.

"You see that girl?" The man asked pointing at Danny. Matt nodded. "Listen here, little boy. Dare to lay a finger on my daughter and I'll make you blow my hunting rifle." He showed Matt a Winchester rifle before letting him go. Danny saw the whole scene making her self conscious of her tiny little stick under her belt.

"Why did you do that for?" She asked as she placed 3 cans of monsters on the counter.

"Bloodhound is looking for you." The man showed her a picture of her sitting on the couch while reading a book.

"What's the price on my head?" She pulled out a twenty dollar bill and placed it on the counter to pay for her stuff.

"6 grams." He took the money and started counting the change he was going to give her.

"Are you turning me in?" She took the money.

"No. I'm just a bartender."

"Thanks." She smiled as she grabbed her stuff and walked out of the store. She drove for 15 miles until she threw her phone out the window and another 7 miles to stop at a phone store to buy another one. She stopped at a camping site to burn her stuff, leaving three plain black shirts, four black jeans, no underwear or bras.

She used her switchblade to cut her hair above her shoulders, thankful that her bangs were long. As she was burning the cut off hair she remembered that she hadn't eaten. She reached into her car and grabbed sandwich but pulled out a wallet from the paper bag. The wallet belonged to Matt and the one who stole it was the man back at the Ohio gas station. She took a bite out of her sandwich while flipping through her book full of numbers, phone numbers. Those phone numbers belonged to people that could help her fake her identity and other things. She was still looking through the numbers and their locations on her map when she felt that she wasn't alone.

"I know you're there." She shouted into the empty camping site. "Listen, if you don't come out I will fill your skull with bullet and use it as a flower pot." She shouted as she pulled out her switchblade despite having a .9 mm pistol tucked under her belt.

"you're keen." Matt walked into Danny's view while holding a gun.

"What's up Matt?" She put away her switchblade and drank from her monster while sitting on the hood of her car.

"Are you going to fight me or something?" He asked confused because Bloodhound had put word of her being dangerous but to his eyes she wasn't.

"Nah." She answered as she burped.

"You gotta lay off from those or you'll have a heart failure."

"Nah. I need them, I'm running on fumes."

"How come?" He was troubled because he had prepared himself to kill not talk to her.

"I had barely 30 minutes of sleep last night." She threw a monster at Matt. "Headshot." She shouted as she drew out her gun and shot Matt in the head before he had time to raise his'. She giggled watching his body fall on the ground next to the monster she had thrown, the monster can killed him. She tucked her gun back into her waistband and set Matt's body on fire. She gathered wood to keep the fire burning before she left the camping site.

She drove into a small town in Illinois, looking for someone called Robert, she found his house.

"Who is it?" A man asked from the closed door.

" Is Robert here?" She could see movement on the peephole.

"I don't know anyone by that name." Danny aimed her gun in the peephole.

"Listen here you cowering roach." She hid her gun under her shirt. "I know you're Robert. And if you do not open this goddamned door I will fucking shoot it down along with your fugly ass face." She heard the locks on the door clicking before it opened. "That's how I like it." She walked in, closed the door and slammed her elbow on the man's face, who was aiming a double barrel at her head.

"What do you want?" He asked as he tried to stop the bleeding on his nose.

"I want you to help me change a few things." She aimed Robert's double barrel at him.

"Alright but don't shoot me."

While Robert was working on the things that Danny had given him he felt her overwhelming presence. A presence of weakness and despair yet of hidden power and suffering.

"You can sit on the floor or be one of the five pillars in my house." He could tell she was tired and could knock out cold any second while standing against the wall on the basement.

"Yeah but I rather be a pillar then be a sitting duck." She replied sarcastically as she felt the overwhelming tiredness trying to take over.

"So what's going to be your new name?"

" I don't know.....Mitch." She couldn't think straight because her brain was running on fumes.

"Last name?"

"Ferguson." She didn't know where that last name came from, didn't know if it belonged to a band member or a historical person.

"Question."

"Shoot."

"Why are you running away?" He asked wondering why a fifth teen year old girl was running away from what she whatever was running away from.

"I got in trouble with a couple of mercenaries and believe me, you don't want to tell them that you helped me. They'll torture you into a delicious Robert stew and they'll enjoy it."

"Training for revenge?"

"more like training for a suicide/one shot/mission."

"Touché."
