Chapter 27 - Forgiveness
~Rainbow Steve's POV~
"Take them, I don't want them anymore," he says, tossing all of the artifacts to me. I bite my lip, grabbing them carefully.
"I don't want to be bad anymore, Rainbow Steve," he sighs, looking me in the eyes.
"Why are you here?" I ask cautiously, wanting to believe that he's finally being good, though needing proof.
"I saw that you and all your friends were searching for artifacts. So, I went and found those ones for you, and figured I'd just give them to you. As a peace offering," he pauses, looking at me again. "You don't have to believe me, I can just go, if you want."
He starts walking off, but I stop him. "Wait!"
He turns around, meeting my eyes, smiling weakly. "Yeah?"
"Thank you, Nightmare Steve... and I believe you; you've proven it," I say softly, and he comes over and hugs me. I hug back, smiling softly.
"Wanna go see the rest of the group and tell them that you changed?" I ask him, and he bites his lip. "Don't worry, I won't let them hurt you."
He nods gently, and I lead him back to where everybody else is. Blue Steve is pacing in circles, probably because I wasn't anywhere in sight when he woke up, and soon he notices me; with Nightmare Steve.
"Rainbow Steve! What are you doing with him?" Blue Steve practically spats the 'him' like it's poison, and Nightmare Steve winces a bit.
"Calm down, Blue Steve, he's good now. He even gave me the rest of the artifacts," I reason. Blue Steve hesitantly believes me, sighing.
"Why's he here then?" Blue Steve asks.
"I told him that he should come and see you guys, apologize for everything in the past."
Blue Steve glances at Nightmare Steve, who lets out a shaky breath. "Blue Steve, I'm sorry. For everything I put you and Rainbow Steve through all those years ago, for killing you completely, and for everything else I did. Especially with what happened to your village all those generations ago... I really am sorry. I wish I could take all of it back, but I know I can't," he says finally.
Blue Steve seems stunned, and I elbow him gently. "Well, thank you, for finally realizing what you did wrong, for changing your actions, for apologizing, and for bringing us the rest of the artifacts."
Nightmare Steve nods, and I take him to talk to everybody else. Everybody had around the same reaction to Nightmare Steve, but then I told them about how he changed. Sabre, on the other hand, still didn't believe Nightmare Steve changed. He even took out his sword.
"I swear, if you brainwashed Rainbow Steve or something," he warns Nightmare Steve, who doesn't say anything.
"He didn't, Sabre! Calm down! He even brought the last of the artifacts!" I explain, and Sabre sighs.
"Fine, but if anything happens to anybody, I won't hesitate to put this sword through his chest," he scoffs, and Alex seems more than a bit worried.
"I don't blame you," Nightmare Steve speaks up finally. "After everything I did to you and your friends, I should be dead. Even if you don't believe me; I'm so incredibly sorry, Sabre. I wish I could take everything I did to you, as well all of the Steve's, back; I don't deserve forgiveness. I can't though, sadly, so I'm just trying to make it right, the best I can," he says softly, and Sabre looks at him, shocked.
"I.... forgive you," Sabre says hesitantly, and I smile.
"Alright, so, now that we have all the artifacts," I break the growing silence, everybody turning to look at me. "What are we gonna do now?"
Sabre shrugs. "Use a machine to inject them all into you?"
I nod gently, and we all go back to the main group, telling them the plan.
