Lisa's P.O.V.
Saying goodbye to Hans was harder than I thought it would be. Everytime I looked at him I felt so many unexplainable emotions going through me.
I know how I used to feel about him, he had been like a father to me. And now he helped me remember who I was.
And even though I hadn't wanted my memories back, now that I did, I was glad it happened. Things were more clear now and I could imagine the future like a path before me. And that honestly felt like a relief to me.
Everyone had made their way out of the house but I turned back and looked at Hans. 'Are you absolutely sure Wicked can't control me anymore?'
It was strange because I could clearly imagine the notes I had made and a part of me knew that it was right. Wicked couldn't control me anymore now that I had my memories back, but still I had to ask.
He nodded, not a single hint of doubt on his face. 'I think you always knew that whoever that device was going to be used on, it was going to be bad. So you told me you built an switch that could only be triggered by remembering your past.'
I gave him a weak smile. 'So you're just going to believe everything a ten year old told you.'
A smirk appeared on his face. 'The smartest ten year old I've ever met.'
I wanted to supress the glowing feeling in my chest, but I couldn't and so I decided for once to give into it. 'Would it be...weird if I gave you a hug?' I asked, my voice small.
Hans laughed, it was a deep laugh right from the pit of his stomach and before I could say anything he took me in his arms. They were like a strong wall around me, embracing me like a real father should.
I bit my lip before the tears would start to flow. I had to let go, think about the future and not let anything in my past stop me.
Hans let me go and smiled at me.
'Be careful,' I whispered at him.
He nodded. 'You too.'
Then I turned around and let Thomas and Minho say their thanks.
I didn't turn around to give Hans one last glance, my eyes were already burning. I knew what I had to do and it wasn't gonna be easy. If I was the person who built the Right Arm, I was going to be the person who would finish their work. No matter the cost.
After our goodbye to Hans, Benda and Jorge took us to a lunch café where we could eat something and think about what to do next.
We were all silent while eating and I was much too busy with my newly returned memories to focuse on anything else.
'Lisa?' Thomas finally asked.
I looked up at him and frowned at his pained expression.
'Did I really help to,' he interrupted himself and nervously bit his lip.
I smiled at him, already knowing his question. 'Yes you did, you turned your back on Wicked, Thomas. Whatever you remember, just know you never believed that killing innocent people was the way to get the cure.'
He nodded and he truly seemed relieved.
'Tell me,' Minho started. 'Was I just as handsome back then as I'm now?'
I rolled my eyes, ignoring the slightly uncomfortable feeling that suddenly settled in my stomach. 'Sure you were.'
A smirk appeared on his face, making me smile.
'Apart from all of that,' Brenda began. 'You know what this means right?'
I looked at her, knowing what she was going to say, but I really didn't want her to.
'You're the true leader of the Right Arm. We have to go back to Gally.'
All eyes were on me and I slowly nodded. 'Yes, but please don't tell them who I am.'
Jorge raised his eyebrows at me.
'I'm just-' I started and took a deep breath. 'I can't be a leader of an organisation that has functioned perfectly well without me for the past three years.' I looked them all in the eye and sighed then. 'I'm a soldier not a leader. I'll help the Right Arm defeat Wicked, as a soldier.'
It was silent for a couple of seconds, everyone thinking about my words. Then Minho clapped his hands. 'Alright that's settled then.'
I smiled at him, my heart glowing.
'Guys,' Brenda suddenly said.
We all turned to her.
'Could Thomas and I have a minute?' Minho raised his eyebrows.
'This isn't exactly-' Jorge started but I stood up, wanting to get some fresh air to get my head straight. 'Come on, let's give these two their minute shall we?'
A little hesitating Jorge and Minho followed.
We made our way out of the shop and waited for them outside.
Minho glared to the two lovebirds through the window.
I hit him on his shoulder and with an innocent smirk on his face he turned away from the window.
Looking around I noticed a man dressed in black, with a huge gun on his side standing outside the shop, next to the door. Because of my newly returned memories I knew he was only standing there to spot infected and call the emergency number in case a Crank showed up but still a shiver crawled down my spine as I watched his cold expression and his hand that never left the gun.
I spun in a slow circle and looked around the street. Bulging trash cans, grafitti on the walls, people walking around with pieces of cloth for their mouths. No one said a word to each other, just walking hasty to their destination.
The world seemed completely different now that I had so much more memories inside my head.
Suddenly there was a scream.
Jorge, Minho and I turned at the same time into the direction of the sound. The guard standing next to the door had made his way inside, all the while screaming. 'He's infected, everyone get out of here!'
I pressed myself against the glass and saw a man inside, lying on the ground, coughing.
Everyone who had been inside the shop was quickly making their way out, pushing and screaming.
I frowned and turned to Jorge. 'That man was completely fine when we walked in there.'
Jorge nodded. 'It's called the Bliss. People use it to slow and hide the effects of the Flare but eventually it always shows.'
By now everyone had made their way out of the shop.
Brenda came standing next to us. 'Where's Thomas?' Minho asked.
She pointed inside, panting.
I followed her finger with my gaze and my heart started beating faster by the sight.
Thomas had remained calmly in his seat, watching how the guard tried to contain the struggling man.
'What's he doing?' I asked, panic boiling inside me.
Screeching tires sounded from behind us, taking me out of my thoughts.
I turned around and saw a car had parked behind us, four people wearing doctor-like uniforms and masks to cover their faces jumped out and made their way inside the shop. They helped the guard with the sick man and I watched them with a numb feeling inside of me.
'Thomas!' Brenda yelled and hit the glass.
He turned around and shrugged at us. 'Shucking idiot.' I hissed.
Suddenly the guard noticed Thomas and started screaming at him.
I couldn't understand what they were saying but it didn't sound like anything good.
Suddenly the guard looked at us and something in his gaze made a shiver crawl down my spine.
'Guys,' Jorge whispered, his frightened tone was what shook me awake and made me turn to him. 'We should go.' He was pale and I noticed how his hands were trembling. 'What? But we can't leave Thomas in there!' Minho said, clearly not understanding the danger.
'If we don't leave we won't be able to help Thomas,' Brenda said.
'Help Thomas? Why?' Minho questioned.
Inside the guard was standing up, waving his gun at Thomas and gesturing for him to sit down.
'We have to go, now.' I urged, slowly understanding the situation.
Thomas had told the guard he was Immune, and now the guard was taking him prisoner.
Immunes were worth a lot of money these days.
And so we turned around and ran across the street, disappearing into an alley. We could still see the shop but they wouldn't be able to see us.
'Shuck it, guys. What's going on?' Minho hissed.
I turned to him. 'Thomas must have told the guard he's Immune, which is why he stayed inside.'
Minho raised his eyebrows at me. 'So?'
'Think about it. What did Gally tell us about the Immunes? They're being sold, back to Wicked.'
Suddenly Minho became pale. 'Do you think that guard will actually-'
'Yes,' Brenda interrupted him, 'yes and he would have taken us too if we stayed there. This way we might have a chance to safe Thomas.'
'The guy has a gun,' Minho argued. 'What are you going to do about that?' I shrugged. 'Take him by surprise.' The asian boy thought about it for a second and then nodded.
'Guys!' Brenda gestured at us. 'They're coming outside.'
We all turned to look.
The guard was walking behind Thomas, and although it wasn't visible, the way Thomas was walking was proof for me that he was being held at gun point. Then they disappeared around the corner.
'Let's follow them,' Jorge whispered.
We waited a few seconds before we started the chase.
Quickly we ran across the street and followed the voice of the guard. Which was, luckily for us, rather loudly.
We went on like that for ten minutes or so. I was getting impatient and ready for a surprise attack when suddenly gun shots echoed through the abandoned streets.
My heart jumped and I heard Brenda gasp behind me.
We threw all caution away and ran around the corner.
What we saw made me relieved and sick at the same time. The guard was on the ground, a puddle of blood surrounding his head.
Thomas stood there, unharmed and looking rather shocked.
And then the most bizarre thing of all. A drone with a gun under it, flying in the air. But before I could get a good look at it, it was already moving away from us.
'What...' Minho mumbled behind me.
That seemed to shake Thomas awake. He turned to us and his eyes widened. 'I didn't-' He started but didn't get to finish that sentence as Brenda tackled him in a hug.
She let him go only to hit him on his arm. 'Don't you ever do something like that again.'
Thomas could only gape at her and nod.
'Did that drone thing shoot him?' Minho said, pointing up at the sky.
'It was Janson.' Thomas said, his voice empty.
'Ratman?' I asked, my eyebrows raised. It was weird to feel more than just pure hatred at the mention of my father his name. He had never been a very good father, but still, there was a time where I did truly love him.
Thomas nodded. 'There was a little screen on the drone with his face on it.' He shivered and something in his eyes told me there was more.
'And?' I whispered.
'He told me that Newt needed our help, that I should consider going back to Wicked to safe him.'
'Newt? What about him?' Minho said, his voice suddenly drained from all energy.
'I don't know, all he said is that he needed our help.' He looked at us, panic visible on his face and I felt my stomach twist. 'Guys, I really think we should check it out.'
I shared a glare with the others and then nodded. 'We will, right now.' 'Right now?' Brenda questioned.
I nodded, determined. 'Dawn is with Newt, remember? Even if he cranked out she wouldn't hurt him to protect herself. We really should go.'
No one had any arguments. And so we left the dead guard behind and started to make our way to the exit of the city.
