First Meeting
"Sammy! Sammy! Where are you?" Dean yelled as darkness engulfed him.
"I am right here, Dean," Sam replied in a strained voice that spoke of discomfort.
He would've never admitted to his brother since he would never hear the end of it, but Sam felt a certain uneasiness. A distress at suddenly being transported into the pitch darkness of another place.
"We just need to figure out where here is," Sam added.
It was an obvious thing to do, but Sam felt the need to say something, anything, to stop the worry that he refused to call fear from spreading any further.
"Do you hear that?" Dean asked seconds later.
The sounds reaching them were rather odd. It was a mixture of scuffling, growling, and thumping. That particular combination of sounds didn't sound inviting to either one of them. However, they had no choice but to investigate.
Still, as their eyes adjusted to the darkness, they started noticing the outlines of things around them, not that there were many things present in the first place. Yet, one thing that was there and welcome was an exit.
"Let's go, Sam," Dean said firmly.
The truth was that he was as apprehensive about their situation as Sam was, but his logic was that at least they would be doing something. Whether they ended up encountering ghosts, vampires, or other creatures, at least there was bound to be some light involved. They would be able to fight back whatever they ended up encountering.
As they exited the strange place they were in, they ended up in a dark hallway. There was light coming from their right, and they followed it in silent agreement.
What they saw once they approached the candlelit room that seemed to be arranged for some kind of ritual surprised them. The picture before them was far weirder than anything they could have conjured up in their minds.
A young blonde-haired girl was fighting with at least ten people that the boys soon realized were actually vampires. Not the kind of vampires they were used to but vampires nevertheless.
"Dude! You know who that is?" Dean asked excitedly.
Sam gave him an oblivious shrug, not very interested in anyone's identity but in surviving whatever place they were in.
"It's Buffy Summers!" Dean said, beaming.
"Who?" Sam asked, having not even the slightest idea who that was.
"Sammy, she is the freaking Vampire Slayer!" Dean said, exasperated with his brother's ignorance.
"Is that the TV show you were fangirling over a few years back?" Sam asked.
"I wasn't fangirling. I was just appreciating the girl's vampire-killing skills, that's all. She is awesome!" Dean said, looking at Buffy, kicking and stabbing, with appreciation.
"Dude, she is a teenager, stop staring at her like that. It's disturbing." Sam said.
Before Dean could reply to his brother, they both heard a loud growling coming from behind them.
Not having brought with them any vampire-killing weapons, Dean pulled out his gun, hoping to at least slow them down with bullets.
As expected, bullets did nothing to deter them. However, luckily for the brothers, Buffy had finished off the group of vampires she was fighting and saw that they were in danger.
She flipped over their heads, in one graceful move that they couldn't really follow or understand, and stabbed the two vampires closest to them.
Just as she was about to stab the last one, it disintegrated into thin air, revealing a handsome dark-haired guy.
No, not a guy, his facial features were contorted in the same way as the other vampires Buffy had fought. Yet, to Sam's utter shock, the girl started approaching the vampire casually, as if he were a human.
"I could've handled that," she told him.
"I know you could have, but I thought we could finish up here and do something more fun. You always complain that we never do anything fun anymore," the guy said.
"What's more fun than killing vamps with you?" Buffy said.
It sounded to Sam like she was flirting with the vampire, so he assumed that he did something to mess with her mind.
"Watch out! He is a vampire!" Sam said.
As he said that, he started moving towards them in an attempt to protect the foolish teenager.
"Sammy, it's okay," Dean said soothingly, holding him back.
"What are you talking about? He has her hypnotized or something. He'll kill her." Sam said.
"I know he is a vampire. I am not an idiot like you two coming to a vampire lair without any proper weapons. Amateurs." Buffy said.
"But..." Sam stuttered, still confused by the interaction between the Slayer and vampire.
"That's Angel, Buffy's vampire boyfriend. The only vampire with a soul, or at least that's what they think. But if he has a moment of true happiness, he turns into Angelus, a horrible bloodthirsty fiend." Dean whispered.
"What? A Slayer's boyfriend is a vampire? That makes absolutely no sense!" Sam yell whispered.
"You guys do know that we can both hear you, right?" Buffy asked, annoyed.
"Oh, yeah, Slayers have enhanced hearing, and the dude is a vampire, my bad," Dean said.
"Who are you guys? What are you doing here? You better start talking before I turn into a human Slayer." Buffy said warningly.
"You can't do that, Angel whispered.
"Of course I can't, but they don't know that," Buffy answered.
"I am Dean Winchester, and this is my brother Sam. Can I just say how wicked it is to meet you?" Dean said.
"Wicked?" Sam questioned.
"Isn't that what teenagers used to say in her time?" Dean asked.
"Not this teenager," Buffy said, starting to get irritated.
"It's cool to meet you. I love your work, the way you kick and stab." Dean said, trying to perform the same moves and failing miserably.
"Wait a minute, if he is a vampire, doesn't that mean that he is hundreds of years older than her?" Sam asked Dean, forgetting that everyone present could hear him.
"You catch on quick. And you were worried about me checking the girl out." Dean said with resentment.
"Do you guys have a reason for being here, or are you just planning on irritating me to death?" Buffy asked.
Before the boys could answer anything, Buffy's expression changed from annoyance to realization.
"Wait a minute? Aren't you the guys from that book, Supernatural? You can't be for real?" Buffy asked.
"We sure are." Dean beamed proudly.
"But those guys are just plain idiots. They make so many amateur mistakes that I can't even begin to list them all out." Buffy said.
"You're the one to talk. You should be staking vampires not dating any vampire you can." Dean said defensively.
"Excuse me, but at least my actions don't create more problems than they solve. Shall I remind you of Soulless Sam?" Buffy said, indignantly.
"Better not, I am still trying to forget about that. Would you guys stop your bickering so that we can figure out what's going on?" Sam said.
"I agree. The sooner we solve this, the sooner those guys will leave, Buffy." Angel said.
"Besides, being soulless is awful, no one should be reminded of that," Angel added.
His statement softened up the teenage Slayer, and she seized her accusations.
"You still didn't tell me why you are sneaking around a vampire lair without stakes," Buffy said.
"We weren't planning on it. Something odd happened. One moment we were in the bunker, going through the books, the next we were down the hall, in a dark room. I am not sure why or how we ended up here. Besides, our vampires can only be killed by beheading." Sam said.
"Eww, that's so gross. I am so glad these vampires don't need beheading, it would totally mess up my clothing, blood must be so difficult to wash off." Buffy said, scrunching up her face.
"I have no idea, but this place is just awesome! We can kick some vampire..." Dean stopped in the middle of the sentence seeing Sam's warning look.
"We can slay some vampires and have fun! These vamps are so easy to kill!" Dean said exhilarated.
"Excuse me?" Buffy asked, aggravated.
"Ahem," Angel said, getting Buffy's attention.
"Right. Well, it could be some ritual gone bad. We should check with Giles, but there is probably a way for us to send you guys back." Buffy said.
"Actually, this might be our fault, now that I think about it. We were tracking a dangerous new breed of vampires, and we tried a tracking spell. We thought it didn't work, but maybe it just had a delayed effect." Sam said.
"How did the vamp look like?" Buffy asked.
"Ugly. All creepy, wrinkled skin and all that, nothing like the vamps we came across before, who looked like humans until they tried to sink their teeth into you. Also, he seems to think himself very witty, which he is definitely not." Dean said.
"It sounds like it might be The Master," Buffy said.
"But you killed him," Angel said.
"Yeah, but I guess he decided not to stay dead," Buffy said.
"Alright, you two, come with us. We'll see what Giles has to say about this whole mess." Buffy said.
As they followed Buffy and Angel out of the dark tunnels, Sam kept fidgeting.
"What?" Dean asked, irritated.
"Do you really trust these guys?" Sam asked.
"Dude, it's Buffy-freaking-Summers, of course, I trust her! This is awesome!" Dean said.
Though Sam disagreed with Dean's judgment of their predicament as being fun, he did believe that Dean knew the characters well. After all, he had seen all the seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer more than once.
