Chapter 9

The following night, Jimin walked towards the window, half asleep, and fumbled to slam it, making sure that the latch was in place this time.

The wind had started to make his lamp move, and when Jimin turned around, the entire room seemed to be swinging around. The light was blazing in his eyes one moment, and then it was flooding the opposite wall the next. But, in between the blaze and the flood, it illuminated the center of the room, and standing there was a stranger.

He appeared to be innocuous enough. He was only an inch taller than him, his body was lean and straight, and his musculature was sinewy. Jimin took a deep breath and took a step forward.

One step, as if in a daze.

Jimin let out a shuddering breath and a small, whimpering sound, "Who are you?"

His insides shook, but he breathed deeply to remain calm and focused.

The figure walked out of his room without answering. Whatever happened to him, he was no longer willing to walk away or back down. Jimin dashed out of his room, sprinting after the figure.

Yoongi woke around 2 a.m. due to a particularly loud clap of thunder that seemed to shake him as well as the house. He paused for a moment, staring at the side of the bed that was empty; Jimin was not beside him.

As he walked out of the room, he felt chills run down his spine and instinctively stuffed his hands into his pockets.

'Why is it so cold?' He pondered.

Moonlight and darkness both bent and danced around him, enveloping him in a hazy metallic shimmer.

Jimin felt his heart thumping against his ribs as he stared at the figure crouching near the end of the corridor, hidden in the darkness.

"H-Hoseok?"

"What are you doing here?" Yoongi approached. He felt tense as he followed Jimin's gaze, the moonlight painting a shadow against the wall.

"Hoseok?" Jimin exclaimed once more. They didn't get a response from him, but they did hear his whimpers.

"He'll get you as well!!"

Yoongi couldn't sleep after what he'd learned from the ghost's message and was on high alert around Jimin. His arms wrapped around Jimin's petite figure, consoling him, as he remained beside him that night.

The day began early for the investigating officer. The details were sometimes hazy, or they bounced around in his head in an illogical manner. Yoongi realized that if he's going to link this murderer to their victim's disappearance, he'd better have a good reason. There was already so much that could rule him out, and the DA warned him that they couldn't afford to stretch accusations with their suspect due to the short time frame.

He chewed on his lower lip, allowing the speculative dots to connect. He pushes himself up, ignoring the sudden wave of dizziness, and rolls a standing board over to his desk, pinning photos and key details to the cork. He was doing his best to detect any notable matches or discrepancies, but it felt even more difficult with his brain shut down. He looked like he was running hard but was submerged underwater.

His vision was blurred because his eyes were strained. He yawned and scrubbed his eyes as he retrains his focus on the task at hand. They had to apprehend this guy before he could victimize someone else; otherwise, he'd just as easily slip under the radar as he did in this case. He only needed evidence to back up his theories because you can't prosecute based on a gut feeling.

Yoongi quickly uncapped a marker and began scribbling his connections on the board, making sure to highlight the details he noticed in the documents. His superiors would undoubtedly have no choice but to follow his lead. He takes a step back and examines all of his work. He'd made a shambles of his desk, but he didn't seem to mind.

"Hyung, do you even sleep?" Jimin blurted, staring at the board full of Yoongi's work. He strolled in, eyes wide at the sight of all the highlighted clues that seemed to have come from nowhere.

"I'll drop you off at school," Yoongi stretched, sitting up straight and trying to pull himself together. He cleared his throat, but his voice remained croaky.

"Don't worry, Hyung. I can go on my own."

"You are my responsibility, Jimin," Yoongi smiled, ruffling his hair, and walked out to his room to get dressed.
