Chapter 3

"I know you're worried about your friend, but drowning in your sorrows won't help us find him. If your friend has fled, pretending he is missing will not help," Those brown eyes that bore into him had a sympathetic tinge to them.

"You don't understand, Officer," Jimin snarled.

"Then make me understand. According to what we were told, he went to the party and never returned."

"He is not a runaway! He never went to the party in the first place!" Jimin said, his face flushed with rage.

"How did you know he wasn't at the party?" Yoongi's eyes narrowed as if he was about to accuse him of lying.

"He was in his nightwear the last time I saw him, and he wasn't into parties and crowds," Jimin murmured, recalling the events of the night. Whatever happened to Jungkook began right there at his house, especially the orphanage. Something within him clicked.

"He must have changed his mind soon after you left for the party," Yoongi said, his gaze never leaving him.

"Officer, if we don't act quickly, we won't be able to catch his kidnappers," Jimin scowled.

"Kidnappers?"

"Someone kidnapped him...He will not flee from us, his only family..." he murmured the last part as if not sure about his strong belief.

"What made you think someone kidnapped him?" Yoongi asked again.

Jimin sighed, staring at the wall, "Aish... You don't believe me..."

Yoongi didn't need to read Jimin's mind to figure out that he was hiding something. "I know you're keeping something from me, from both of us. That's what I'd like to hear from you," Yoongi mumbled as he leaned against the chair.

The room suddenly became deafeningly quiet.

"Keep in mind that whatever you say will only benefit him. For the time being, rest. I'll pay you another visit soon," Yoongi mumbled as he watched the nurse enter and stands up to exit the room.

A few hours later, Jimin lay on the bed, absentmindedly staring at the ceiling, ignoring all the voices around him, while Jin left to check on the rest of the kids.

He was alone in the hospital room when he heard a flickering sound. It was the TV. He sighed as he reached for the TV remote to turn it off. But, to his dismay, the flickering sound echoed throughout the room once again. When he recognized the screening, his heart rate dropped. Through the TV screen, he could see his reflection.

Picking up the remote again, he attempted to turn off the television, but it did not turn off. Instead, the reflection continued to stare back at him. On the screen, a person appeared behind him. Jimin leaned towards the TV, furrowing his brows, trying to figure out who that was.

A young lady dressed in white. Her skin was as white as snow, and her hair was a tangled mess.

His heartbeat was shallow and rapid as he slowly turned around, expecting to see the same person standing beside him. But there wasn't any. When he returned his gaze to the TV screen, he saw her staring back at him with a creepy smile on her face.

Ghosts are the only reason he despises hospitals.

Yoongi entered the room after hearing a gurgled scream, only to find Jimin curled up against the bed.

"Are you all right?" Yoongi was concerned for him.

"I'm fine... " Jimin mumbled, staring back at the TV, trying to calm himself down after his encounter with the ghost of the lady who committed suicide in the hospital room where he was staying.

"When I saw you, you looked terrified out of your mind. And now you expect me to believe those lies? Is there something bothering you?" Yoongi inquired as he handed him a glass of water.

"It was just a nightmare. Don't worry," Jimin sighed faintly as if his life was a living nightmare.

"Are you being abused or mistreated at home, in your orphanage?"

"No, Jin Hyung treats us better...way better than anyone else," Jimin said warmly, setting the glass on the table beside him.

"...Why do you think Jungkook was kidnapped?" Yoongi leaned forward, staring at him.

"...I can't tell you...even if I did... you'd think I'm crazy."

" Crazy? I'm the only one who's willing to help you. I understand you don't trust anyone, but you'll have to trust someone someday," Yoongi said as Jimin remained silent.

"What is the current status of Jungkook's case?" inquired Jimin.

"They closed his report minutes before I arrived, and the official report says he's another runaway," Yoongi mumbled as he caught a glimpse of him.

"Something I expected," Jimin grumbled bitterly as he stared out the window.

"Do you think he's still alive?" Yoongi inquired.

"He was alive when I left for the party... But he no longer is."

"How did you know?" Yoongi widened his eyes, then narrowed them in an attempt to focus.

Jimin bit his tongue to keep from saying what he wanted to say, but all he cared about now was getting Jungkook the justice he deserved.

"Do you believe in ghosts, Officer?"
