Chapter 16 [ Slightly Mature]
That evening, Arjun went out with his friends to a restaurant to celebrate his birthday. He extended the invitation to Bani, but she declined, preferring to stay home.
However, Banishree was determined to make her husband's birthday special. She remembered passing by a small flower shop near the college campus a week ago and decided to pay it a visit. With the money her maternal aunt had given her for emergencies, Banishree bought many roses and scented candles, envisioning a romantic surprise for Arjun.
Banishree returned home with the flowers and candles, her heart brimming with excitement at the thought of creating a memorable evening for her beloved husband.
Arjun returned to the dorm room at 9:30 in the night to find the door open, which felt odd to him. "Why would Banishree leave the door open?" he wondered as he entered the room, only to be greeted by a sight that took his breath away. The room was beautifully decorated with multiple candles and roses, creating a romantic ambiance that filled him with both amusement and excitement.
"Shree..." he called out, and to his delight, he heard the melodious voice of his wife in response. "Haan," she replied, and he soon heard the beautiful sound of anklets approaching.
There stood Banishree, adorned in a stunning red saree, her presence captivating him instantly. "Sh...ree..." he managed to whisper, his awe evident in his voice. She looked as if she could stop wars.
She guided him to the balcony, and as he stepped out, Arjun's eyes widened in surprise. The balcony was beautifully decorated, with his study table placed in the middle, adorned with a white bedsheet. Banishree had made the best use of their limited resources to create a cosy and inviting space. Before him lay a spread of his favourite foods – pizza, pasta, and paneer tikka.
"Oh my Shree! This is all so beautiful," Arjun exclaimed, unable to contain his admiration as he kissed her cheeks gratefully.
Banishree watched him eat happily, her heart swelling with affection for him. As she observed him, she realised that she had fallen deeply in love with him. But amidst her love and admiration, a sense of inadequacy crept in. She couldn't help but feel that she was no match for him. The women around him were highly educated, independent, and capable, while she had only barely managed to complete her 10th grade education. She feared that her husband would never be able to introduce her proudly to others.
Banishree wanted to give her husband the most precious thing she owned. She knew her husband was worthy of it. “Ye aapke liye, Doctor Babu,” She handed him two velvet boxes. “Ye humare babuji ki hua karti thi,” She added, smiling softly. ( These were owned by my father)
He opened the velvet box to find a Rolex Datejust 36 Two Tone Champagne Dial Jubilee Band 16233 Circa. Arjun was amazed, both by the fine craftsmanship of the watch and the fact that Banishree's father owned such an expensive timepiece. His eyes widened in surprise as he carefully examined the watch.
Next, he opened the other box to find a thick gold chain. "Shree, you don't have to give me this. I'm sure these hold many memories for you," he said, feeling touched by her gesture.
She shook her head, her eyes shining with sincerity. "Hum chahte hai ki ye aap rakhe," she said softly. (I want you to keep them.)
She played music on her phone, and the song "Zara Zara" filled the room. "Doctor babu, kya aap humare saath dance karenge?" she asked, extending her hand, though she was blushing hard. (Doctor babu, would you like to dance with me?)
Arjun smiled warmly, keeping his eyes locked on hers as he pulled her towards him, their chests colliding. "Of course," he said, placing his forehead against hers. Gently, they started swaying to the sensual music.
Banishree raised herself on her toes, her lips brushing against Arjun's neck as she placed a tender kiss there. Arjun stilled, feeling electricity coursing through him. "Shree..." he rumbled, his voice tinged with desire.
She kissed the soft spot behind his earlobe, wrapping her arms around his neck, while he buried his face in her neck, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Doctor Babu," she said softly.
"Hmm," he responded, his attention fully on her.
"Dhanyawad, uss din aap humka backaye," she expressed her gratitude. (Thank you for saving me that day.)
"In this past month, I've given you our heart," she said earnestly, her voice filled with emotion.
Arjun listened carefully, his heart racing as he absorbed her confession. "Par... hum aapke layak nahi hai," she continued, her brows furrowing with concern. (But... I am not worthy of you. I am neither educated like you nor from a wealthy family like yours.)
Arjun's brows furrowed in confusion, but he waited patiently for her to finish.
"Hum kal wapas chale jayenge," she said, stepping back. "This one month will be etched in my memories forever."
Arjun felt a surge of anger rising within him at the thought of her wanting to leave.
Arjun gritted his teeth, his anger simmering beneath the surface. "What did you just say, Shree?" he demanded, his voice laced with anger.
"Hum chale jaayenge," she whispered softly, her words barely audible.
"Why do you want to leave me?" he asked, frustration evident in his tone.
She simply looked down, unable to meet his gaze.
"Listen to me, Shree," Arjun said firmly, his grip tightening on her chin as he made her look at him. "You are tied to me. Tum bandhi hui ho mujhse agle saat janam. Mai tumhe nahi jaane dunga," he declared, his determination clear in his eyes. ( You are tied to me for the rest of our 7 lives)
But before she could utter another word, his lips crashed against hers, silencing any further protests.
He pushed her against the wall, cushioning her head with his hand. He sucked the breath out of her mouth and rovered his hand on her exposed waist through the saree.
"I need you," he growled into her ear. "I want you badly."
Arjun's touch was electrifying. She felt dizzy. The air around her was charged. He lifted her bridal style and walked over to the bed. His touch was possessive. Her body was afire.
He laid her down on the bed and pulled her ‘pallu’ away. She was a blushing mess underneath him. He traced her outline, his hand lingering in the right places. Her breath hitched.
He bent down and kissed her on the lips and trailed his mouth over her neck, her chest and her bosom. “Shree, may I?” He asked.
She looked at him and nodded. He unhooked her blouse and brassiere and tossed it away. His hands were rough and she liked it. They roamed on her bosom and he took a nipple into his mouth and bit into it. She screamed. He smiled. He took her other breast into his mouth and teased her nipple. His tongue swirled around her nipple, and she moaned. She tugged at his hair.
His hand roamed over her midriff. He again connected their lips in a slow sensual kiss. He sucked on her lower lip. She moaned. He traced the curve of her neck, sucking it, and leaving a trail of bruises. His mouth was warm and soft, his kisses were like fire, burning her skin. She tugged his hair and pressed his face into her bosom. He bit the flesh of her breasts, marking her.
"You are mine. All mine. Only mine," he whispered.
She moaned as he bit her again. He was sucking and marking her all over the collar bones, the cleavage, the swell of her breasts. She tugged his shirt off and dug her nails into his back, clawing him. He growled, his teeth sunk deep into the skin of her neck.
He was moving south when there was a knock at the door, “Arjun, Arjun...” he heard his friend Chola. Banishree quickly got up and locked herself in the washroom.
“What The Fuck, this better be important," he gritted as he opened the door.
Arjun, impatient with the sudden interruption in his intimate moment with his wife, asked impatiently, "Kya chahiye tujhe?" (What do you want?)
Chola, with a teasing grin, chimed in, "Did I interrupt the rangeen night of the birthday boy?" (Did I interrupt a colourful night for the birthday boy?)
Arjun shot him an annoyed look. "You better tell me what you want before I make your face ‘rangeen’," he said, glaring.
Chola cleared his throat nervously. "Ahmmm.... Vaseline hai? My lips have become dry and chapped," he admitted.
That was the last straw for Arjun. He looked around the room and spotted his slipper. "Saale, kutte, tujhe raat ke 11 baje vaseline chahiye," Arjun said, picking up the slipper. (You dog, you want Vaseline at 11 o'clock at night?)
Seeing this, Chola ran screaming in the hostel corridor, with Arjun hot on his heels, slipper in hand. The other residents in the dorm corridor looked on, amused, as the two usually responsible resident doctors chased each other like Tom and Jerry. They laughed heartily seeing the two.
Arjun realised that this truly was the most memorable birthday of his life.

I have this question...
Banishree felt insecure for the obvious reasons which she mentioned. And she wanted to leave. In many marriages this happens which eventually leads to separation. What do you think would be the mature approach to this situation?
