Chapter 13
Banishree sat on the bed, her head throbbing with pain, as she patiently waited for Arjun to return with food from the mess. Moments later, Arjun entered the room with two covered plates in his hand. They had their meal together, and afterward, Arjun handed her medication for her headache.
"Shree, take this medicine every Saturday. It's to control your prolactin levels," he explained, placing the pills in her hand and offering her water.
Banishree noticed Arjun's deep thought expression and voiced her concern. "Doctor Babu..." she began.
"Hmm?" he responded.
"Aap bohot pareshan lag rahe hain (You seem worried)," she said.
Arjun nodded, “Shree Tum so jao. Mujhe kuch kaam hai (you go to sleep. I have some work to do,)" Arjun said, taking out 3-4 large folders before leaving the room. He headed to Nikhil's room and knocked. Nikhil, a neurosurgery resident, welcomed him in.
"Hey, come on in," Nikhil said, stepping aside to let Arjun enter. "So, how's your forced marriage treating you?" he joked.
Arjun chuckled. "So far, so good," he replied. Nikhil nodded, then mentioned seeing Banishree on the terrace the previous day. "She's cute, but she looks very young. Is she eighteen?" Nikhil inquired.
Arjun chuckled again. "Yeah, she's very adorable. Has a childlike innocence. And yeah, she is 19. You should hear her speak. You'll find her even more adorable," Arjun added.
Nikhil nodded. "You know, the news of your marriage has spread like wildfire. Crazy how people can be sometimes. After what happened to you, I'm actually scared to participate in med camps in villages," Nikhil said, expressing his concern.
Arjun nodded in agreement. "People can be straight up cruel and heartless at times," he added solemnly.
“So, Dr Hotshot, what brings you here?” Nikhil enquired.
He listened attentively as Arjun briefed him on Banishree's medical condition, his expression growing serious as he examined the MRI scan reports placed before him.
"Hyperprolactinemia and galactorrhea, along with a pituitary tumour," Nikhil murmured, his gaze fixed on the detailed images. "That's quite a complex situation."
Arjun nodded, his concern evident in the furrow of his brow. "Yes, it's been challenging to manage her symptoms. She often complains of severe headaches and eye strains," he admitted.
Nikhil continued to study the reports, his medical expertise guiding his analysis. "Headaches and vision problems are common symptoms of pituitary tumours," he explained, his tone thoughtful. "It's crucial to monitor her closely and consider treatment options."
Arjun listened intently, absorbing Nikhil's insights and recommendations. "I've been administering medications to regulate her hormone levels," he said, his voice determined. "But I want to ensure we're taking the right approach."
Nikhil nodded in agreement. "Pituitary tumours are often benign, but they can still cause significant complications if left untreated," he cautioned. "We'll need to assess her condition carefully and determine the best course of action."
Arjun inquired about the surgical approach for addressing Banishree's pituitary tumor, seeking clarity on the procedure's intricacies.
Nikhil paused, considering the optimal method for tumor resection. "For this type of tumor, the preferred approach is transsphenoidal microscopic surgery," he explained, his tone measured. "It involves accessing the tumor through the nasal cavity."
Arjun absorbed the information, his focus unwavering. "And what about potential complications and the recovery period?" he inquired, his concern evident.
Nikhil enumerated the possible risks associated with the procedure. "Complications may include cerebrospinal fluid leakage, hemorrhaging, diabetes insipidus, and damage to adjacent pituitary tissue," he elaborated, his tone serious. "Additionally, there's a risk of vision impairment."
He continued, addressing the recovery process. "Recovery typically spans 6 to 7 weeks, during which meticulous care and monitoring are essential," he emphasized. "With proper postoperative management, I'm optimistic about Banishree bhabhi ji's prognosis.”
Arjun returned to his room to find Banishree fast asleep, her arm dangling off the bed and mouth slightly open, a hint of drool escaping. Despite the adorable sight, he couldn't help but chuckle at her innocence. Gently, he repositioned her arm, wiped away the drool with a tissue, closed her mouth, and tenderly covered her with a quilt.
Observing that Banishree had already arranged the makeshift bed on the floor neatly, Arjun couldn't help but feel grateful for her considerate nature. Placing a tender kiss on her forehead, he whispered softly, "You will be fine, Shree. I will make sure of it."
With that assurance lingering in the air, he settled down on the floor bed, embracing the hope that he could alleviate her suffering and ensure her well-being. As sleep started to envelope him, he remained steadfast in his determination to support her through every challenge. He was going to be with his Shree through thick and thin.
As sleep gently caressed his weary mind, Arjun's final thoughts drifted to Banishree, his wife, his destiny intertwined with hers in a tapestry of fate. In the quiet depths of his consciousness, he reached out for his phone and opened the notepad, he whispered silently as he started typing his mind.
In her, I find the melody of my soul's song,
A symphony of love that knows no wrong.
With her, I embark on a journey divine,
Bound by threads of destiny, forever entwined.
She is the light that guides my way,
In her embrace, all worries sway.
Her essence, a fragrant bloom in life's fleeting dance,
An eternal bond, born of fate's trance.
In her eyes, I glimpse eternity's embrace,
A timeless union, in every whispered grace.
For seven lifetimes, she reigns as my queen,
In her love, a sacred sanctuary unseen.
With each breath, her presence a sacred hymn,
In her, my heart finds solace, serene.
For she is not just a wife, but my destiny's decree,
My Shree, my beloved, for all eternity.
Arjun realised that everything came naturally to him when it was about his wife. No facades but just pure emotions. That night he realised that he had found stability in his life and a purpose. Other than his parents, he had someone who truly and unconditionally cared for him. He had seen it in her eyes and actions. Life was good and he wasn't being sarcastic.
