Chapter 2: The badge, the burden and the mecha
*Blake's POV*
"Good Morning, Team RWBY!" Ruby yelled out as she jumped off Weiss's bed.
"What in the world is wrong with you?" Weiss asked, a bit annoyed.
"What was that noise!?" Y/N said just walking out of the bathroom while rubbing his ears.
"Ruby blew a whistle and made Weiss fall to the floor." I replied to him.
"Now that Weiss is awake we can officially begin our first order of business." Ruby replied.
"And that is, what exactly?" (Y/N) asked.
"Yeah, what?" Weiss asked.
"Decorating!" Yang replied. (Y/N) and I looked at Yang to see her arms full of her stuff.
"What?" (Y/N) and Weiss said together.
"We still have to unpack." I said while lifting my suitcase and everything I had falls out.
"And clean..."
I kneeled down and grabbed my stuff, but I seen Y/N helping me.
"(Y/N), you don't have to help." I said to Y/N.
"It's okay, Blake. I just want to help." He replied with a smile.
"Thanks." I replied to him. Ruby brought us back to the objective for the time being as she blew her whistle at Weiss again, making her fall to the floor.
"All right! Weiss, Blake, Yang, Big Brother, and their fearless leader, Ruby, have begun their first mission. BONZAI!" Ruby yelled in a cheery motion.
"BONZAI!" Yang, Y/N, and I joined with Ruby. Weiss looked at us then onto the floor. I seen (Y/N) walk over to Weiss and helped her up.
"Thank you, Y/N." Weiss thanked Y/N.
"No problem, Weiss." Y/N replied as we all went around the dorm to unpack.
*(Y/N)'s POV*
My originally plan was to head straight to class, but I decided to play along with the girls and decorate a bit. I didn't have much with me. currently, I was sitting on Blake's bed remembering everyone one from Azur lane and Red Axis.
*Flashback*
Azur Lane's universe
(Y/N's POV)
After me, Red Axis, and Azur Lane finally destroyed the Orochi, we all thought it was over. But the Empress still had one trick up her sleeve. She created a vortex that started sucking everything around it into a black void.
Everyone, including myself managed to get out of the way in time, but I noticed Amagi was getting sucked into the vortex, without thinking, I jumped to Amagi and threw her out of the vortex. However, I failed to save myself, as I was completely sucked into the vortex. Everyone, especially Akagi and Kaga were now horrified, thinking that I might be gone for good.
Kaga and Akagi then broke down into tears. They were just reunited with Amagi, all thanks to Y/N. And now they will never get a change to really thank Y/N for what he did for them anymore now that he's gone forever.
*End of flashback*
"Hey, you okay, little bro?" I heard Yang ask me, snapping back to reality. I shed a few small tears that were coming from my eyes.
"Yeah, I'm alright. I'm just... remembering some close friends of mine." I replied.
Weiss then grabbed her uniform and left towards the bathroom. And almost instantly, Weiss came back out in her uniform.
As Weiss changed, everyone was decorating the room to their liking. Yang was hanging up a poster of a six-man band.
"Still listen to that same band from when we were younger, Yang?" I asked Yang.
"Yeah, I do. It reminded me of my favorite little brother." Yang replied. I smiled as I gave Yang a hug and she returned the said hug. "I really missed you, (Y/N). When I wasn't looking for my mother, I was looking tirelessly for you. Hoping to find you one day."
"It's ok, Yang, I won't disappear on you guys. Not again." I said to Yang as we tightened out hug. "I love you, big sis."
"I love you too, little bro." Yang replied.
We stopped hugging and I looked over at Weiss as she put up a painting of a red forest. I walked up to Weiss while she adjusted the painting.
"Hi, Weiss." I said behind Weiss making her jump a bit.
"AH! Oh, Y/n. Don't scare me like that." Weiss said as she was calming down.
"Sorry."
"It's fine. Just don't do it again. Now, this is the Forever Forest. It's nearby Beacon Academy."
"Really? It's a pretty forest, that's for sure."
"Were there forests like this where you were at?"
"Hm... Not exactly. however, there was one place that has a similar vibe called "Tracy island."
""Tracy Island"?"
"The home of my friends from international rescue." I said and projected a picture of the island.
"Wow, that place is massive. I have a feeling I would have probably liked to see it in person."
"Yea. I'm sure the others would have liked to see it in person as well."
I turned my head and saw Blake putting books on the shelf. I walked over and helped her place some books on the shelf.
"Hey, Y/N." Blake greeted me. "Helping me out, again?"
"Yea, I thought you were having some trouble with other things and thought I could lend a hand."
"Got it, thank you." Blake thanked me.
I was grabbing some books and putting them on the shelf until I got to a book titled "Ninjas of Love."
As I was inspecting the book, it was quickly taken by Blake as her eyes widened and she had a small blush on her face.
"Um... Well, you see... How do I put it?" Blake said trying to answer. "Um..."
"It's an adult book, isn't it?" I whispered to her.
Blake didn't answer, but her face was beet red and she nods.
"Okay, I don't mind it, but make sure to keep it far away from Ruby. I don't want to have to explain that kind of stuff to her."
"I get it and I totally understand." Blake said as she hid the book temporarily.
I looked at Ruby as she was measuring the curtain with her weapon, Crescent Rose, and made a diagonal cut on the curtain. I guess it was a mess up and the curtain was sowed back on again.
I only had the backpack and placed it on the desk. I looked back and saw everything was in place, but the beds. They were piled into one large pile, which I had no idea how it was possible to stack them like that with the pillows and sheets still in one piece.
"This isn't going to work." Weiss said.
"Maybe we should ditch some of our stuff." Yang suggested. I didn't want to know what was going to happen next as I walked behind Blake and whispered to her ear.
"Blake, I'm gonna head off and look around a bit before class starts." I whispered to her.
"Okay, see you in class, (Y/N)." Blake replies. I walked out of the room without anyone else, except Blake, even noticing.
After walking for what almost felt like an hour, I found the classroom "Grimm Studies" and walked in.
"Ah... You must be Mr. Rose. aka, Mecha Team Leader. Good to see you have arrived." The Professor who I assumed to be Prof. Port. A man in his early-old age as his hair and moustache were a light gray and he was a "fluffy" set gentleman. He wore a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons. His pants, he wore, were tucked underneath his olive boots, which reminded me of cavalry boots.
"Yes, sir, but please, call me Y/N."
"Of course, please take a seat. May I ask where Team RWBY and JNPR are?"
"Hm... They should be coming in right about... now."
Teams RWBY and JNPR burst through the door.
"Big Brother! Why didn't you tell us it was almost time for class?" Ruby furiously asked me, but it was in the cutest manner.
"I thought you already knew." I replied.
"Anyways, please be on time in the future. Now, please take your seats." Professor Port said.
I went over and sat in the front row as did Team RWBY, but Blake sat to my right as Yang sat to my left. Ruby and Weiss looked a bit upset, but I bet they decided to be quicker next time.
Professor Port began his lecture, aww what the hell am I saying? This isn't a lecture, it's basically Port talking about himself.
I looked over as Weiss was taking notes, Ruby was sleeping, as both Yang and Blake watched Port talk as I did.
"Monsters... Demons... Prowlers of the night... Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey, Ha Ha!" Professor Port spoke and woke Ruby from her nap. The room was filled with crickets.
"Uh...And you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy. Now as I was saying, Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world. Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces, except for one of you," Professor Port went on as he took a glance at me. I nod as he continued his "lecture," so to speak. "And that's where we come in. Huntsmen, Huntresses."
I saw him take a wink over at Yang as she was unimpressed which made me raised one of my claws, which was cackling with purple lightning, and aimed it at Prof. Port, causing him to change his tune a bit as his sweat dropped a bit.
"As I was saying, individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot defend themselves. From what, you ask? Why, the very world!" Professor Port said as a random student agreed with him.
"Ayeep!" The random guy said as we all looked at him. He slowly went back into his seat. Professor Port went back to his teachings.
"That is what you are training to become, but first, a story. A tale of a young, handsome man. Me."
"What is this?" I leaned over and asked Blake.
"I have no idea. He's just talking about himself." Blake answered.
"At lease someone agrees with me." I said back. I tried to listen to what he was trying to say, but it was nothing but gibberish. I mean, really something about cabbages and a Beowolf?
I shook my head as Ruby lifted up a piece of paper that was a drawing of Professor Port with "Professor Poop" underneath his... well, large proportioned self as some stink lines were above him. I couldn't help but give a small snicker as did Yang and Blake, until Prof. Port brought our attention.
"In the end, the Beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high. Celebrated as a hero." Professor Port said.
"A true huntsman must be dependable. A true huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise. So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"
"I do, sir." Weiss said in an angry tone.
"I know I embody these traits, Professor." I said getting the attention from several people.
"Well then, let's find out. We have enough time for two demonstrations. Now, who will go first, and face their opponent?" Prof. Port asked as he gestures towards two cages. One large and one small cage. I immediately stood up.
"I'll go first." I said getting Weiss's attention.
"What? Why?" Weiss asked.
"Let's just say, you may need to cool down a bit before you try anything. Got it?" I replied while my eyes flashed for a brief second.
"O-okay." Weiss said and sat back down.
Now, get changed into your combat attire, Mr. Rose." Prof. Port told me. I nod as I left the classroom and collected my sword. I came back in as Prof. Port was standing next to the cages. "Now, choose which cage you'll take."
looked at the cages. The larger cage has to contain either an Ursa or a Beowolf, but the smaller one most likely held a Boarbatusk.
"Prof. Port, I would like to choose that larger cage."
"Very well." Prof. Port said as he got the cage into place.
"Are you ready, Mr. Rose?" Prof. Port asked.
"Yes sir." I replied.
"Let's go, Little Bro!" Yang cheered.
"Fight well, Y/N." Blake said while waving a small red flag.
"I look forward to see what you can do." Weiss said.
"Go get 'em, Big Brother!" Ruby cried out.
"Ruby! He's trying to concentrate." Weiss scolded Ruby.
"Oh, sorry." Ruby said while slouching.
"Weiss, don't be so hard on her." I said glaring at Weiss. "Prof. Port, if you may?"
*Narrator POV*
Professor Port slashed his weapon, Blowhard, onto the cage and a Beowolf popped out. The Beowolf looked around until it saw Y/N ready to fight. The Beowolf charged at Y/N, but Y/N was quicker as he slid underneath the grimm slicing the beowolf underside as it leaped over him.
"Wow, never saw that move before." Yang said while she watched her brother fight.
Across the room, was Team JNPR as they watched the fight and Nora was enjoying every minute of it.
"That was something." Jaune said.
"Yes, perfectly dodging and slicing the Beowolf's underside is an advantage." Pyrrha stated.
"BREAK IT'S LEGS, Y/N!" Nora yelled loudly to the DOLLS unit. (Y/N) gave Nora her request as he swept the Beowolf's legs. Once on the ground, Y/N grabbed the Beowolf's leg and yanked it very hard to the side, breaking its leg.
The Beowolf cried even louder from the pain. It was a wondrous sight for Nora. "Oh, I think I'm in love."
Hearing that made Blake and Weiss look over to Nora as she was giddily watching the broken legs of the Beowolf. The Beowolf only had one movable arm left and didn't have anywhere else to go.
Y/N then walked in front of it before stabbing the Beowolf in the head with his katana.
As the fight ended, everyone clapped and cheered for Y/N. Y/N de-materialized his blade and saluted to the class. Professor Port was impressed by the skills and tenacity Y/N had shown.
"How wonderous. Well done, Mr. Rose. We are most certainly in the presence of a well-trained Huntsman. Well done indeed." Prof. Port said while clapping.
"Thank you, Professor." (Y/N) replied. "Weiss, it is now your turn."
Weiss nods and stands up to change into her combat outfit.
*Y/N's POV*
I went back to Yang and the others and sat back down between Blake and Yang.
"Nice fight, little bro." Yang said to me.
"It was entertaining to watch." Blake told me.
"Thank you guys." I replied.
"You're welcome, Nora!" I yelled to Nora as she waves to me and gives me a double thumbs up. The same came Ren, who nods and claps, Pyrrha who smiled and nods, and Jaune, who was impressed and didn't have anything to say. We were brought back to our thoughts when Weiss returned in her combat attire. Prof. Port stood next to the smaller cage and Weiss readies herself.
"Let's go, Weiss!" Yang cheered on.
"Fight well." Blake said as she waved a small red flag with "RWBY" on it.
"Do your best, Weiss." I told Weiss.
"Yeah, represent Team RWBY!" Ruby cheered on Weiss. Apparently, that got Weiss's attention, and she was not happy.
"Ruby, I'm trying to focus." Weiss scolded Ruby.
"Oh, sorry." Ruby apologized. I went over and patted Ruby's shoulder. We looked back onto the floor and Prof. Port opens the cage with Blowhard, why is that even a name for a weapon?, and a Boarbatusk Grimm comes out. It charges at Weiss and she dodges the charge while slashing onto it's side. Weiss readies herself, again, as the Boarbatusk redirects its focus onto her. It snorts at Weiss.
"HA HA! Wasn't expecting that were you?" Prof. Port heartily asked.
"Hang in there, Weiss." Ruby said. Weiss and the Boarbatusk charged at each other. The Boarbatusk manages to lock Weiss's weapon in place between it's tusks and makes Weiss flip around. Weiss tries to dislodge her weapon from the tusks.
"A bold new approach. I like it." Was all Prof. Port had to say.
"Come on, Weiss. Show it who's boss." Ruby cheered on to Weiss. Weiss wasn't taking the encouragement well and looked at Ruby. The Boarbatusk disarms Weiss and sends her weapon across the room. It began thrusting it's tusks around trying to skewer Weiss, and manages to strike Weiss further back.
"Oh Ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Prof. Port asked with a chuckle.
Weiss dodged the Boarbatusk in time and it hits the side of the desks. It plops over onto its back while Weiss recovers her weapon.
"Weiss," Ruby calls out to her. "Go for it's belly. There's no armor underneath."
"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss snaps at Ruby. Ruby looked down as I rubbed her back. The Boarbatusk gets up and starts rolling into a ball form. It launched itself at Weiss, but gets stopped by Weiss's Glyph shield and rolls onto it's back, exposing it's weak spot. Weiss took the chance and jumped onto her glyph in the air and launched herself at the Boarbatusk and finally ends the Boarbatusk. Weiss begins to breath while Prof. Port congratulates her.
"Bravo, Bravo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training. I'm afraid that is all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and stay vigilant. Class dismissed." Prof. Port said ending the class. Weiss looked over at Ruby and gave her an enraged look. Weiss storms off as we all watched.
"Sheesh, what's with her?" Jaune asked.
We all looked at each other, but Ruby jumps up and chases after Weiss. I followed Ruby and Weiss out the door. I got to a corner as I heard Weiss and Ruby talking, and Weiss was not happy.
"What's wrong with me?," Weiss asked Ruby. "What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far has been a nuisance."
"What did I do?" Ruby asked confused.
"That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position. Back in the forest, you acted like a child and you've only continued to act like one."
"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about "working together?" I thought you believed in acting as a team."
"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained, and quite frankly I deserve better. I mean, look at your brother. He's had way more training than any of us. He experienced the aspects of real war and survived," Weiss stated as she turned her back onto Ruby. Ruby tried to grab Weiss's shoulder, but gets hit by what Weiss said next. "If anyone was to lead us, it should have been me, or your brother. Ozpin clearly made a mistake of making YOU the leader of the team!"
That made me so mad that I marched right up to Weiss. She must've heard me as she turned around, but as soon as she saw me, I punched her in the face, leaving Ruby completely shocked.
"GAH! WHAT IS WRONG WITH-" Before she could finish, I grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the wall.
"SILENCE!" I yelled in rage. "You don't ever get to talk like that to my little sister, Weiss Schnee. Now shut your mouth. Or. Else."
I then threw Weiss to the ground and she ran off scared.
Ruby and I then encountered Ozpin.
"Hm...Now, that didn't seem to go very well." Ozpin said as I stood by
"Was she right?," Ruby asked. "Did you make a mistake?"
I hugged Ruby to comfort her.
"Ruby, that itself remains to be seen." I said to calm Ruby.
"What do you mean, Big Brother?" Ruby asked me.
"Your brother is correct. He means, it's only been one day. Ruby, I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet."
(After a short talk...)
"That's an interesting saying," Ozpin says as he's about to walk away. "You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you take some time, to think about how you will uphold it. That reminds me, Mr. Rose, Summer, Taiyang and Qrow will be here any moment. I suggest follow me. Ruby, you and Ms. Xiao Long, are more than welcome to attend, but if you do, you both must not say anything about Mr. Rose's identity. Understood?"
Ruby simply nods as we followed Ozpin towards his office.
"Now, as per your request, I will only call you "Venogia," but I advise caution if you decide to show the footage of what you've been through." Ozpin told me. "What you have experienced is exceptionally more than any individual should have endured."
"F-A-B." I replied.
"Wh-What does "F-A-B" mean?" Ruby questioned.
"It's a radio code, meaning "message received and understood.""
"Ah, got it." Ruby replied.
After a little while, the elevator opens and both Ruby and Yang come into the office.
"So, when's mom, dad and uncle Qrow showing up?" Yang asked.
"They should be arriving soon. I ask that you both keep your brother's name a secret for now. Refer to him as "Mecha Team Leader"."
"Just like during the initiation?" Ruby asked.
"Yes, please." I replied.
"You got it, Mecha Team Leader." Yang said with a smirk.
After a brief moment, the elevator doors opened and I saw my mom, my Dad and my favorite uncle, Qrow Branwen, enter the room.
"Okay, Oz," My dad said. "What is this about? Did Yang do something? Why is Ruby here, and who's the robot?"
"Relax, Tai," Uncle Qrow replied to my dad. "I'm sure Oz had a reason to bring us all here, right?"
"You are correct, Qrow." Ozpin replied to Qrow as he stood up. "This young man is Spectre, and he has some "interesting" information for both of you. Ms. Rose and Ms. Xiao Long have heard this information already. Go ahead, Mecha Team Leader.
"Thank you, Professor," I said to Ozpin. I turned towards my mom, dad and uncle Qrow. "I understand you are Summer Rose, Taiyang Xiao Long and Qrow Branwen, mother, father and uncle to (Y/N) Rose, correct?"
As I thought, the both of them tensed up when I brought up my name.
"What do you know of my son?" My dad said.
"Where is he?" My mom asked with slight anger in her voice.
"Tai, Summer, calm down," Qrow said. "I understand, I want to know too, but we need to hear what he has to say."
After a small moment of silence, my mom and dad calmed down and breathed normally.
"I'm sorry," My dad apologized. "It's just... it's been too long and we miss our son."
"And I..." My mom started tearing up. "I was devastated and barely spoke to anyone at all."
I wanted nothing more to run up and hug them, but I was holding back all of my emotions.
"So, what information do you have about (Y/N), my nephew?" Qrow asked.
"I will tell you that he is alive and well," I said to the two. My dad's face had a smile on it, but it was brief. Qrow was relived, but concerned. "I understand that you all miss him, but you three should know he went through a tough and rigorous program while not only unlocking both his aura and semblance, but also acquiring new powers unknown to Remnant."
"What?" My dad questioned. "Did they experiment on my son?!"
"Tai, calm yourself," Qrow said trying to restrain my dad. "We don't even know who took him in."
"I can reassure you both that he was not experimented in any way, shape or even form," I reassured the three.
The looks on my dad and Qrow's faces had relief, concern, and more questions.
"If he's alive, then where is he?" Qrow asked.
"Where is my baby?" My mom questioned
"He's actually closer than you think," I replied. "You both should know, he experienced more than training, but also played a part in battles, skirmishes, and even an entire war. He was victorious several times as a War Hero and he was given the nickname, Mecha Team Leader.
""Mecha Team Leader"?" Qrow asked.
Qrow was confused until he saw my eyes flash silver for a brief second. He looked at me until his eyes widened from realizing who I really was. His eyes were almost about to burst into tears. My dad, however, didn't notice and was getting enraged.
"What do you mean? How would y-" My dad was going on until Qrow stopped him.
"Tai, Summer, look at his eyes." Qrow told my parents. They glanced at my now silver eyes.
"Wait, why do you have..." My dad said until he stopped and looked at me. "S-s-son?"
"S-s-sweetie? Is t-t-that really y-you?" My mom said through her tears.
"Yes, mom. Its really me." I said, much to their shock.
My dad and mom ran up to me and grabbed me into a hug.
"Son, I... I... I can't believe it. It's you. My boy. You're finally home." My dad said while he was crying rivers of tears.
"M-My baby! You alive!" My mom said and through her tears.
I looked over at Uncle Qrow and he dropped his flask and he ran to me. As he got close, he wrapped me around into a tight hug.
"Hey, kid," Qrow said to me. "About time you came back."
"I missed you too, uncle." I said while tightening my grip. "Still drinking that alcohol, huh?"
"Very funny, kid." Qrow chuckled. "We really missed you kid."
Qrow leaned into my ear and whispered about Aunt Raven.
"Even Raven missed you, kid," Qrow whispered. "From what I could tell, she was devastated just like Summer. Raven really did like you."
Uncle Qrow let me out of the hug as Ruby and Yang came in and hugged my followed by dad. My family was finally reunited, well... except Aunt Raven's not here with us.
"Sweetie, where exactly did you go?"
"Well, that is a very, very long story," I replied. "It's better to show you what went on while I was gone."
I then projected all the video footage of all the battles and adventures I was apart of. Once all the recordings were finished, dad, mom and Qrow didn't really know what to think.
"Damn, kid... You survived all that?" Qrow asked me, still not knowing what to think.
"Yeah, I did." I answered.
"I still can't believe my own son fought in an entire war." My dad said while taking all the information in.
"Yeah, that's what we thought to." Yang chipped in.
"It doesn't matter," Ruby said as she jumps onto me into a hug. "All that matters, is that Big Brother is here to stay!"
We all had a good laugh from Ruby, but she was in fact very right.
"Ms. Rose is correct. Mr. Rose is back and staying, but Summer, Tai, Qrow. The information you just witnessed. I advise you never speak of this to anyone else. I informed the rest of the students and the staff to keep this information secret. This information must not reach Atlas, especially to James." Ozpin stated.
"James? Who's that?" I asked.
"General James Ironwood of the Atlesian Military, and Headmaster of Atlas Academy. I fear if they knew about what you went through, they would try to recreate the technology for their own purposes."
"They better not, especially the Absolute Solver."
"What's the "Absolute Solver"?"
"It is an extremely advanced, hostile, eldritch intelligence of unknown origin that seeks to consume all life to satiate its "hunger" by creating singularities that destroy entire planets." I explained.
"Oh my Oum." Yang said breathless.
"From what I've seen," Qrow added in. "It is not to be trusted."
"Not just be trusted, but if it got to you, it would kill you and fuse your corpse with itself."
That very statement made the room go completely silent.
"As I suggested, no one speaks of this, especially to James." Ozpin repeated himself.
Everyone agreed as the day was setting.
"We better head back to the dorm," I said. "Dad, Mom, Uncle Qrow. It was a happy and very nice reunion. I promise to visit Patch whenever I can."
After a few goodbyes, I left with Ruby and Yang down the elevator and walked back to the dorm to get some sleep for the next day.
